Pick 1, 8, 12??, 20 and 21.... Mad..

Playing the devils advocate here, if say all goes to plan and we get all the picks we want, is it really good news for us considering many have said this is a very weak draft?

In a strong draft I would be dancing the jig, but what are we really looking at getting with all these picks?

We will get better players than if we had 1, 20, 39 and 57.

Watch some of the YouTube grabs of some of the kids that will go top 8, then 20's. They're very very good. It's a crap draft only because the talent pool drops off a cliff after around 30. It's not like this batch of kids missed their vaccinations back in '97 cos of some government shortage and now can't stand up for 2 hours. Blimey!

What were we supposed to do?

SOS was quoted today as saying Casboult would be at Carlton next season.

I wouldn't read too much into that. He is actively being shopped. His value is next to nothing though. However, one desperate club may still bite ;)

It was always going to happen this way (GWS having to trade out talent) How else can you stuff so many talented players of similar ages into the same team. Answer you cant. The original plan was to pick the best players available, which has given them player overlaps everywhere. These players are all talented, but cant get a game. Add to the mix the academy picks and the need to make space for new picks as well as the reduction in players coming up and some good players have had to be moved on. The hendo pick suits them as they probably prefer to spread their ages a bit more.

Was just thinking, in its very short 4 year AFL history, we've relieved GWS of 6 players, and handed them one, O'hAilpin.

Well, i gotta say......... I'm still concerned at us churning out so much talent. Just about all of them have gone on to be stars at their respective clubs (Betts AA, Robbo B&F, Jeff 40+ goals, Grigg a solid contributor, Jacobs close to elite ruckmna, etc etc).

However, in saying that - I do look back over 2015 season and think to myself just how little Menzel, Hendo and especially Yazz seemed willing to give in the Navy Blue.

Maybe it's for the best.

Pick 1 & 8 should give us two very good players and i like a couple of the boys from GWS. Know nothing about Kerridge though.

Time will tell i guess.

It's on CFCTV.

Now this would be more madman stuff from SOS

We give Mel pick 8 and next year's first round pick and they give us pick 3 and next year's second round pick

We then use pick 3 on Francis

While it's all exciting and I'm happy to see someone take a scalpel to our list, something in the back of my head remembers that plenty thought Brisbane and crazy Vossy nailed the trade period when they got Fev and the rest trying to win one last flag for Brown and Black. Lots of activity doesn't necessarily mean we've got it right - although with 1,8,20 and 21 for now we should get some talent through the door.

Appreciate your point, but I think that comparison from Brisbane more aptly applies to Geelong. They have no decent picks for 2 years, and let's face it, will rely on their existing talent stepping up with danger in the hope of a flag. Couple of injuries and they're rooted.

Given that the 2016 first round pick is likely to be pick 1, that trade is absolutely terrible.

Fair enough, Cats have gambled big time I reckon. Just have a nagging feeling that the 4 for 1 gets everyone excited because there's 4 new guys to talk about but could be quantity over quality. Although the counter is that in an ordinary draft we'd be replacing a couple of them with very late picks. And it makes a welcome change from the minimal list turnover of the last few years.

For what it's worth I like the look of all except probably Lamb. If Sumner, Phillips and Plowman come good. We win and I think they will.
Kerridge will be a good soldier, probably nothing more. Hopefully we can get some 100 solid games out of him. Menzel is a loss - probably big loss, so hopefully I'm right on the 3 GWS kids.

Plowman, Phillips, Sumner, Lamb and Kerridge, good gets for next to nothing.
Pick 8 also, Henderson pick next year could be, 13,14,15. Another good get.
If we land pick 12 for Yarran, the rebuild is well ahead of schedule..
Pick 1, 8, 12??, 20 and 21.... Mad..
Think Warnock, White and Armfield maybe in trouble..
Thanks SOS, at least we're having a crack

Just needs to find a way to get rid of Casboult. Please make it happen SOS.

What is it with you and Levi?
Did he do your sister or something?

Look at it like this
Menzel for kerridge (It will depend on menzs fitness)
Pick 28 (really 33) for Plowman (win)
Pick 60 Sumner (win if he is fit. If not no loss)
Pick 77 lamb (win)
Philips is a freebie

The whole trade delivers list depth. If one of them ends up a B grader we will win the trade and if we are lucky we get 3 150 gamers. Menzel will have a good season or 2 but I doubt he has 100 games in his body and looks like the type of player who will retire at 28
