Hopefully Kennedy is sub, I think people forget how good he can be.

100%

Can't recall which game but he was the sub earlier in the year & he was brilliant.
Yep, he came on and imposed himself on the game, kicked a goal too. I think it was against the Lions at Marvel.

He only got credited for 2 tackles, but I remember telling my mates after the game that I swear I counted at least 4. :P

If he can hit the ground running like that again on Saturday, it could be the difference between winning and losing. I'm confident they won't have the same head start this time around.

I think Kemp is extremely stiff
Boyd obviously is highly viewed internally
Don’t know why
Owies has struggled but he is capable of kicking a couple
Carlton will need to kick 100 points to win
Baffling

The Boyd selection also tells me that Fisher’s cards are stamped.

Prefer Owies to motlop - although Motlop is the better finisher.
but I get the smaller backline with Boyd coming in. Marchy has got to a lot - just needs better hands. Kemp was caught in no mans land a couple of times last game. toss up for me - happy to go with the MC on this...prefer kennedy sub.

When we went with Weiters/Kemp/McGov/Marchbank in the Elimination many - probably most - of us thought we were too tall.

For the record, I'd have dropped Marchbank before Kemp for the reason that, although Kemp has had shaky finals moments, he and Weitering have shown they have real trust in each other as 1 and 2.

What makes me nervous is that we saw what happened to Weitering when he didn't have that trust with Young.

I'll back the MC completely but it's the Weiters/Kemp partnership that has me worried more than Kemp's omission in isolation.

Good point hammer. Kemp has made such huge gains this year, and I wouldn't have minded if he kept his spot. Either way, he'll be very good for us in years to come.

I do like the idea of Owies for his generally composed finishing, but there's no denying that Motlop had impact last week. I was nervous after the Elim final where I thought Motlop looked a bit overawed when he came on as the sub, but his goals against the Dees were class.

Four changes does seem a lot at this time of year, but we're on a pretty good run so let's see how we go.

Agree with the call for Kennedy as sub.

Just start the @#$%&! game please!!!

Go to minute 3.25 and listen to pregame pep talk from Coach Prime. This is 2 days out from his next game.

If Vossy gives that speech before the game, it would resonate.

"It ain't gunna be because of me."

What a great line. Let me know what you think Mick.

Go Blues

Interesting point about the Weiters-Kemp partnership. I would hope that March's superior positioning in the SF relative to Kemp's indicates that he also has a good partnership with Weiters. The MC were ruthless in giving Young the arse when it was clear that partnership was faltering, so I guess they see no problem on this occasion.

On the plus side, it's 4 players with fresh legs which we'll need. The only one coming back from injury is Harry, & that was concussion

boyd had to come in for mine ... at that point it was about kemp or marchbank. the playing group love marchbank, and the coaching probably do too.

positionally he's better than kemp. probably higher footy iq.

kemp faster runner and better hands.

maybe looking for fresher legs? i dunno.

and owies just doesn't impress me. he's very one speed/ one dimensional. motlop has a little bit of x factor, is faster, tackles & creates more defensive pressure.

i'm happy with the team. we've had to offset the height of 2 rucks and 2 tall forwards with more pace, mobility, run and hunt and surge forward for a while now, and i fee like we've done that with kemp's omission and adding both ollie and boyd. fact is we haven't moved the ball well out of defence all finals series - and agains the lions, highest turnover scoring team in the comp, if we do that again we will lose. so boyd's disposal will be key. he's a pure two footed player too

the two best games we oplayed all year were pies and dees, and this is the closest team to those, that we've picked.

them missing payne is huge. if harry can have a big, big game and twist andrews out of shape, that could be what decides this. Lions defence without payne is the worst defence we will have faced this finals. we need to capitalise if we're going to win

Good omen (for this week) / bad omen (for next week) this morning:
I was at the gym and Prince’s 1999 came on - haven’t heard it in well over a year!

Seriously, why drop Kemp??

4th for Contested Marks behind Curnow, Weitering, McKay

3rd for 1%-ers

5th for rebound 50s last 6 games played.

11th for total disposals last 6 games played.

3rd for season for time on ground

And Owies our 2nd most effective goal scorer for the year!

wtf

It's definitely a horses for courses selection. Cameron, Bailey, McCarthy, Rayner, Zorko, Ah Chee... that's why one of the talls go out. Back the MC. They've got it right for 3 months. Have faith.

Owies has had a good year, but he hasn't been good in the finals. Some of his field kicking has been rubbish and costly. Martin and Motlop clearly ahead of him

This is all spot on. Melbourne’s small forwards caused us all sorts of problems and should have won the game for them. Brisbane’s small forwards are another level and easily the biggest threat in this game. We needed another small defender. We’ve only played with 4 talls a couple of times this year so if anything that was the exception and we’re returning to the rule

I know we refer to them as small forwards, but it's more a case of them being fast forwards. Charlie Cameron is 6'0". Saad is going to have to defend an opponent a bit more than he usually does.

Yep. Their defense is suspect, including Harris Andrews.
