Interesting post 33.
No point looking backwards though.
Many clubs missed those players as well as some of ours.

Brodie Kemp before Sam De Koning
Zac Fisher before Shai Bolton

These hurt.

It's not like we are in desperate need of an intercept defender (who can stay on the park) and a pressure forward who consistently kicks/creates goals.

Which emphasises the stupidity of topping the lists with overrated players from
Other clubs with long term overpaid contracts in some cases given up draft picks
This is why our depth is crap
There is in an art to picking kids at the draft
And a degree of arrogance that they will develop
What also isn’t mentioned here is
O’Shea
Mullet
Kerridge
Fasolo
Sumner
Etc
Lazy recruiting
No brainer brain fades
I actually believe with Austin our recruiting of kids has improved

Trying to refill 1/4 of the list in one year is how you end up with plugs like Mullet & Fasolo.

Risky business to go that route again - especially given our draft position.

Legend effort McConville
Says it all.

If half of thoe worked in our favour......

Amazing how half of our list has been filled by the Foreign Legion, but that came at a cost because of the above failure.

What about the fact SOS forced out the weapon of Tuohy to get injury prone Marchbank.

It is a fine effort 33...but it should have come with a warning. Just seeing the name Tom Temay physically upset me.

The following names may cause Carlton supporters to experience feelings of bewilderment, sadness and anger. If you have been traumatized by list management decisions involving Carlton, please think of your health before reading on.

I read these list management post and often wonder what these threads would look like if you followed GWS and Gold Coast.

We cry about missing player x and y and letting the likes of SPS and Setterfield go.

Imagine being in their shoes when you look at what has come and gone. Supporters on here would be suicidal

With apologies to the original poster,I don't see the value in these lists. You could probably take more than 90% of selections in AFL draft history and locate someone who was picked later and turned out better. In just as many cases you could also find someone taken earlier who turned out worse, but in our constant state of self flagellation we're not going to consider that angle, are we?

End of the day, all that counts is how many players we've drafted in the past decade have been great, how many average, and how many crap. The record shows that outside of #1 picks we have rarely got it right, and that's the main reason we've not finished in the top 8 since 2011.

If we had picked up <player missed> instead of <player picked>... there's a good chance they'd be on that list regardless.

It's easy to look back in retrospect and some of the examples I agree with, but... poor mental and physical development has always been a problem.

Why are we physically so much smaller (across the list) than most of the opposition every week? As an example, why isn't Paddy Dow 5 kgs bigger to compliment his inside game strengths? Is that a club decision or player driven?

It's interesting you say this, and it could be expanded to running capacity as well.

Is it that our list profile is wrong, off the back of a) drafting genetically inferior players, or b) development/performance/culture....

OR

Are the other teams "doing" things we're not doing? Taking things we're not taking......

I say this in all seriousness. Are we so cut down by our past indiscretions that we're not willing to dabble in what the other clubs almost certainly are?

And get caught like *? No thanks.

And you know our punishment would be 10x as severe as theirs was.

Agree with most of the names people mentioned for delisting this year, with the exception of Honey. He's too young and has too much upside to give up on him so soon. Rookie him or give him a minimum chips Senior contract.

I read these list management post and often wonder what these threads would look like if you followed GWS and Gold Coast.

We cry about missing player x and y and letting the likes of SPS and Setterfield go.

Imagine being in their shoes when you look at what has come and gone. Supporters on here would be suicidal

Yeah , its one foot in the grave sorta stuff for sure .

As a supporter you'd have to have your jumper numbers attached with Velcro instead of the old iron on.

I know it's a long time ago (pre-SOS even) but the worst on that list has to be Bootsma ahead of Yeo. What were the selectors taking?

This is an interesting, but pointless post.
