Anyone would look good taking over from the Madhouse. I feel it would be another big mistake to hand it over to Barker. He would need to show a lot more by seasons end.

What a dumb decision it was to employ the Madhouse ... three years going backwards and another 3 years to get back to where we were (a 6 years stuff up) ... one would hope the club will be much smarter with the new coach appointment.

Well, get 'em out BBW.

Who's the man to lead us forward?

I guess what I would like to see from the club is a complete critical assessment of all possible coach applicants. We need a young coach for the long term ... not someone we will replace with Ross Lyon in 2 years time. No snap decisions ... no Pagans or Madhouses ... someone with fresh ideas. As I mentioned, anyone taking over from Madhouse would look good. The club could easily overestimate Barker's performance.

He's an impressive media performer and his interviews show a man who is on the right track with player and team development IMO.

I think the Freo and Hawks games will be a good audtion although our injuries are mounting up atm

Skill errors are coach killers. The missed shots at goal against the Doggies and Richmond were very costly. Not mention poor disposal skills by hand and foot. Zac dropped simple marks at least twice right in front of me. The reaction of the crowd was telling, groans of disappointment as those errors squandered promising moves. You can have the best structures in place but if the players cannot make them work though disposal errors it must be pretty disheartening for the coach(es).
Barker clearly has the players on side but all snide comments aside, the process is everything to getting the right appointment of our next coach.

Would like to see more scoring, but it's a bit tough if you continually give the ball back .

There have been a few poor choices where players handballed into trouble instead of kicking.
Would like to see that cleared up a bit.

If Barker is unsuccessful in his application for the senior coaching job, how likely is he to remain at the Club?

The successful applicant would obviously have quite a large say in this, but I wonder how this scenario could play out.

I think he'd leave and be quickly snapped up by another club.

I think this proves to me that the actual influence of the assistant coaches on game day is overstated.
We've been banging on for years that Barker is shit due to the performance of the areas he was supposedly responsible for. Ultimately it's the senior coach who calls the shots and everyone else is judged based on his decisions. If he's a shit senior coach, all the coaches look bad.

I think Barker has shown that he actually has half a clue, and while I'm not suggesting he's ultimately the right man for the job, he's performing much better than I expected atm.

Completely disagree. He seems uncomfortable and his answers rehearsed. He always (since he started coaching) looked a bit out of his depth. But who knows ... time will tell.

He does seem uncomfortable. And he has always looked out of his depth. I also noticed that from my couch here in East Bentleigh.

BBW, you really have a keen eye for coaches. Many people didn't want MM because they acknowledged that he HAD been good but deemed him past it.

You argued that he'd NEVER been good. 1 flag in 19 years and that kind of horse shit. Ho ho ho.

Don't get too excited by Barker. Two wins against low quality opposition backed up by the rev up players get from a change in coach.
Lets see if they tackle and chase in a year or two
Our core problem is a list with zero quality. Cripps is the only player that would be regarded as A grade and that is on potential.

Add Kruezer to that list..
