My issue with your logic, as I stated above, is that 4-5 matches dominated at VFL level as a forward, quintessentially means bugger all. You could be Tony Lockett at his peak, and still not get a kick if he lined up with Bendigo Gold's midfield this week.

Hampson drops many. Casboult can't kick and Rowe doesn't play 4 quarters. At the moment, we've invested six weeks into Hampson, and good on the match committee for backing a player in. He stays in on the basis of incumbency, and that he offers more in the ruck than the other two options.

There are far more glaring deficiencies across the board in terms of the make up of our list, the mental fragility of it, and the ability of some that prevent us from being serious premiership contenders, than whether Hampson clunks 2 or 3 more marks each week.

We're not 100% on the same page Rhino, but I think we agree more than we disagree.

Yeah I reckon so, Kev.

Bigger picture for me is that if Hampson goes and dominates the twos, it only makes the ruck pecking order even murkier.

I'd rather give Hampson a full year at it, and one way or another I reckon we know where we stand. The luxury, if you can call it that, of Kreuzer being a quality individual off-field is that clubs will still have interest in having that sort of a bloke around their club, even if we've played him everywhere but the ruck too.

Think back to the past few years where the opposition defenders have had a picnic in our forward half taking marks. Brian Lake would lick his lips every time he played Carlton.
At least Hampson gives a contest and ensures there are crumbs for our little blokes. Even Levi has been out marked too often.
Waite spends too much time leading out to the boundary.

Hampsons value isn't neccesarily measured only in marks and goals. He's our best option for the pressured long ball IMO until someone better comes along.

Hampson won't make a key forward, it's a failed experiment. He has 3.5 in 6 games. Enough is enough there. It's not about what they offer in the ruck but what they offer forward given we already have someone rucking. Casboult has been playing well in the NBs, 9 goals in the last 3 weeks including 4 goals last game, and on the basis deserves to play ahead of Hammer, if it were to come to that as he'll be a better key forward. Like most ruckmen Hammer has no clue how to play the position. Not to mention Casboult showed alot at the end of last season. Anyway, they may well play Waite and Henderson in the key forward positions so neither would get a game.

Unfortunate for Hampson as he is a good ruckman, just a useless key forward. Hopefully we don't make the same mistake with Kreuzer.

Pathetic ... it amazes me that the so called supercoach continued to allow our midfield to keep bombing the ball in ... It clearly wasn't working ... The saints just kept picking it off time after time.

A really poor effort tonight ... we will be one of the few teams StKilda gets 4 points against this year.  :hitcomputer:

Sorry for quoting myself ... ... but StKilda won't beat many teams this year ... This was highlighted by the Bulldogs win on the weekend. Our effort/match planning/match selection was pathetic and incompetent. I hate loosing to the Saints ... it still bugs me weeks later.

You can only flog a dead horse for so long. They beat us because of gross mismanagement of the MM and the MC. Nothing more ... nothing less.

They beat us for the same reasons as they have beaten us the last five years plus?
They were no good last year too.

Agree

...but the last game he really looked clumsy. I stopped being a fan.
I still like him (when he's 'on') and agree with your point.

We played StKilda at the height of their powers under Ratten.

Go back and actually take a look at that StKilda team that beat us this year. They were rubbish. An absolute disgrace that we lost that match. Pathetic performance by those in charge. We were crap at the selection table and simply out-coached on Game Day.

Right you are BBW.
So far the Richmond and Saint loses have come back to haunt us and might even bite us down the track even more.
We need to beat the weaker sides at the very least. We haven't been playing any better or different (as a whole) than last year to say the MM influx has made a hugh difference, but hope it's not too far away. Yes there have been some individual growth and I think more than anything a handful of players are making us look better than what we our results show.
The wins we have had are more out of weakened opposition and not much more but lets see how the next month or two goes.

Essendon*, Hawthorn, Sydney, Collingwood, St Kilda again and North all in a row I believe after gws.
nothing less than 3-3 is a disappointment.

We lost to them two times last year and they didnt even make the eight and finished above us.... we also lost to port and gws

And yes .. we took a lot of beating from the Saints when they were at the height of their powers ... or are you just talking about the final year of Ratten.

Go and compare the sides to what they had this year ... pathetic performance from MM.

We were destined to lose that game as soon as we were arrogant enough to include Kreuzer, Hampson & Warnock in the same side.

We approached that game as if it were a pre-season kickabout and got rightly punished

Nothing to do with Ratts (who I disliked as our coach). Only to do with MM & MC who cocked it up!!!

We did OK against these sh!t-kickers round 7 2010 so previous coach is irrelevant in this pathetic result that still makes me taste vomit more than a fortnight later...

They were not at the height of their powers last year.... You don't get that do you?

Go check the teams they produced.....

And yes this side is a product if every game it has played before including the losses we had last year when the saints were not at the height of the powers.

Hard to understand that isn't it ?

The Richmond and St Kilda losses will bite us - not may bite us. Every legit team will beat Richmond and St Kilda. That's 8 points gone that we aren't getting back. Football equivalent of missing a one foot putt.
