Maybe we could all get together and pay each of them that to go away...?

Oh - and that averages out to 8.39% per year over the 6 years which in this years dollar would mean he'd be paid an average of a bit over $737,000 a year for the duration.

And we may actually get him for less.

That sounds fine on face value but the reality is that others will be putting their hands out for more money also.
Irrespective of what the cap is, the better clubs will always have some problems keeping their squad together for salary cap issues and other teams will be throwing the "extra" money at our players.

That's not to say we shouldn't go for Cloke, but don't expect the fit to be easy next year and then progressively easier.
It just doesn't work out that way.

Those figures weren't an argument one way or the other. I'm still on the fence and I'll let you know if we've made the right decision in about 5 years.

But those figures show that Cloke's salary DOES get progressively easier to fit regardless of what others want. It's a diminishing percentage of the total so by it's nature it has less impact.

Unless of course they backload it so that it increases over time and is less initially.

Compared to what PA are paying to keep Boak, Cloke is a steal

Have to remember David Cloke played well into his thirties, and played well!

Two years in his current role and then four as a stay at home full forward a la Alastair Lynch.

If we play GWS, GC and Demons twice that's only six times.
Chuck in Essendon* once or twice and were nearly there but to be perfectly honest we should be able to do them just with Micks mill only.

He kicked 6 goals against Hawthorn in a Final.
In the last four years how many goals has a Carlton player (other than Fev) kicked against Hawthorn?

Hawthorn didn't even look at changing their FB. They were so far in front they just maintained their team structure and let Cloke remain the focal point. Easier to predict.

BTW he should have had more because he missed a couple of sitters. His problem is not that he can't kick goals, it is that he doesn't kick them regularly. For a FF to take 13 marks a game and average 3 goals a week is a pathetic return for effort. Most of his marks are outside the F50 as far up as the wing. That's not a FF role at all. He should stay closer to goal and if he takes 10-15 marks a game he should be averaging 4-5 a week. If McKenna/Huddo/Jezza/Dunstall/Ablett sr/Lockett had had as much of the footy as Cloke gets, they'd have kicked 100plus every year they played. He gets 50-60 at best. Eddie gets that. I don't think anybody is suggesting we wouldn't improve with Cloke in the team, what many are saying is that 1 million a year is too much when we have kids we can develop and if push comes to shove, perhaps even other free agent options for the money.
And I haven't even mentioned his family.

Cloke had 3 guys on him on Friday night and still kicked 6 goals. Did anyone watch Freo v Cats. Now tell me we dont need a non injury prone forward. Pav was awesome. This is how you win finals. We played well in the season proper past 2 years but in finals we were terrible. We were not a finals side.
