My impressions:

Had the height to match Hawks in the backline which we were lacking last year

Our creativity is improving - Fev and Stevens now have Murphy and hopefully Gibbs to assist. Fev overdid the creativity last night (when creativity becomes lairrising)

Still a lack of confidence resulting in turnovers (handballing to players who are under pressure instead of kicking). Something that annoyed me intensely about us in the last few years.

Having blonde hair helps you be noticeable but Stevens certainly had a good match

Fev did seem a bit disinterested as someone else has said. May be saving himself for the real stuff. We don't want to burn out too early

Well, i had another Wedding to film last night that ended up finishing at 1:00am.

Now LAST YEAR, i would have come home and been able to see a replay on Fox Footy. But this year, after the biggest TV Rights deal in the history of Australia netting the AFL close to $800million, i have the following choices when it comes trying to find a replay of my beloved Blues.

a) Nuthing.
b) Zip.
c) Sweet &^%# ALL!

This is nothing short of Piss-weak and quite frankly i'm offended. AFL supporters (or should i say, Supporters of FOOTY!) are getting done from behind. No Lube, No foreplay...............No flowers or Chocolate............NUTHIN! Just bend over and take it!

Because i use a MAC, this stupid & Pathetic AFL Beta site wont let me watch replays of the game (which i might add are only available to Telstra BigPond members anyway).

Because of the demise of FoxFooty I can't watch a replay of it.

This is 2007 for christ sake!

The only thing i can do is wait for someone out there in Internet Land to post a torrent on the game allowing me to ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADING it.

To the AFL..........................GO %$*@ YOURSELFS! Your boardering on a Dictatorship and are a disgracee to the game and it's supporters.

To the BLUES.....................Sorry i missed you boys! Well Done to all of you.

Yep - don't forget Ryan:

How would Harts go up forward playing the Hamill role and making life a bit easier for Fev JK & Fish? ...would that be a better option than say ...Lance? :P

ive been saying it for a while.
Were going to try and turn Hartlett into something he isnt (defender) he is a big unit mark and kick.More a FF but with Fev there he is a pocket forward ..
Lance is taking Hartletts spot in my opinion.

It should be

Betts Fev Hartlett
Gibbs/Houla Kennedy Fish/Lappin

Instead we have the ineffective bloke that cant chase out of defence or take a big mark...allowing it all to break down....

The flankers can work through the midfield also allowing Kennedy to push upfield and leaving Fev... Hartlett and Betts in the fifty.

With Setanta & Waitey adapting nicely to their key roles down back and the likes of Bower Austin Jamison Flint developing as tall defenders, it frees up Harts to play forward. Would love to see his aggression used to take some heat of Fev and the forwards.

the beauty that Hartlett has is he is 195/6 extends his arms to mark and is nearly the best kick at the club.We might be 'breeding' all his strengths out of him... cos were trying to change him into something he doesnt look natural at.(to me)
Saddington should be given the chop for Bower....
Happy that so far Cloke has proven me wrong.Strong work and gutsy.Keep it up....

Lets be sensible here Hartlett hasnt played a game yet but he is taking a spot of a guy that has been All Australian and was best and fairest last year
By the way Lance is not yet match fit and after this week do people expect him to star last night
Im not against Hartlett and I RECOGNISE Lance has some limitations but have some perspective please and he is in our best 22 and one of our match winners -the backline is going well thus far but no doubt Lance will be plugging holes there at some time this season .

No lets be sensible... why isnt he fit yet???? .and do we have to burn kids so Lance plays?
Last year everyone had to pick up Lances pieces in defence... so this year we moved him away from the dangerzone where he was exposed cos he was a slug and we move him into the forward line so its suits his lack of accountability unwillingness to chase out and just so he can stand there like a statue.

in the meantime were trying to fast track kids to do roles theyre not suited to so that Lances bacon can be saved.

Hartlett is a better option in this modern game at FP than Lance is!!.. because he has the tools to play this game.
Run.. mark.. kick straight and he is TALL.

Who have his opponents played on him frank???

Bradley and Ryder last week...

This week???

Its actually a joke. id rather go with a kid on Bradley and Ryder than have Lance on the ground being Captain F.A
thats common sense...

knee and shoulder injury in lead up to christmas and only got back to full work late January Synbad so I understand-
Not sure everyone had to pick up pieces for Lance in defence last year -others may have had to on occasions last year but would have thought objectively Lance had to pick up the pieces for a few others in defence last year more than people had to cover for him.
Surely the club wouldnt have given him the best and fairest last year if he was so non accountable and didnt play to the team rules
Not sure we are burning kids for Lance at this stage -are we burning kids by playing lappin and kouta as well or does that only hold true of Lance
Wasnt the guy Gilham who beat Neitz last week playing on Lance last night
I AGREE Lance hasnt been great in the comedy cup but lets see how he goes in the main season before we denigrate him after all objectively last season he was the clubs best player surely the best and fairest is the most objective benchmark to use
Moreover apart from Fev Lance was the only other player who was considered for all Australian selection in 2006-surely that is another objective benchmark
He has limitations and speed is one of them but his strengths outweigh his weakness objectively at this stage

AND JEEPERS ! all the negativity about Walker...get rid of it people........

Walker is a gun and one of our better players.........

Theres room for improvement but who doesnt have room for improvement and thats a scary thing with AW he is just going to get better !!! he is no where near as bad by foot as people make out.

....oh yeah and Walker wasnt on Boyle - he was just the won sprinting to cover his team mates asses - the match committee underestimated Boyle and it seemed he was left loose whilst Scotland did his thing

Thanks for that, saved me a couple of hours of typing.

Just watched the game again, and young Andrew Walker was SENSATIONAL!! He tore Matt Little a second hole ..... I really don't know where all of this Bullsh1t neagative crap about him comes from. It is really becoming annoying!!

Anyway ...... IMO,

Stevo, Carrots & Murph (and a fast finishing Kouta) were great in the middle. Bentick will be better for the run.

Setanta got another game under his belt, and WILL just keep on improving.

JR ...... did a great job on Bateman ...... it won't do him any harm at all playing that sort of role for a while.

Ackland & Cloke look like they might give us a bit more in the ruck than we've had in previous years. (at this stage it looks promising)

Overall, a nice win for us Bluebaggers. Most enjoyable!!

Many have probably thought it, and i have posted it but what I have taken out of these games is something that we have been striving to and something that we should get this year.

Every game that our squad plays we should go to the game knowing we will be ultra competitive.

Some games we will win, and some games we will lose, but the games of big losses hopefully will be a thing of the past.

With that comes belief, and with that comes the rest.......

Proud of their chasing, and tackling in particular.....

PS - Ackland and Cloke not only holding their own in the ruck (tap), but hurting the opposition around th eground with mobility - pleasing

Didn't need a second viewing to see that.

But I watched it again anyway. 8)

And the negative crap about 1AW is more than annoying.

Walks is judged on past efforts, which is totally unfair.

People see him miss a few targets in 100 minutes of footy and they say he was poor. They actually forget about the 20 other great things he did that helped CFC win the game.

Murph and Stevo turned it over a few times as well but that hasn't been mentioned anywhere near as often, if at all.

Don't tar everyone with the same brush Cazz, some of us were just having a meal or a drink and watching the footy and saw a few bits where Walker was trailing Boyle on the lead.

I was happy with his 21 disposals, but Boyle was getting a few kicks and making us pay with all bar one of them.

I did notice that Walker didn't appear to be playing on him for chunks of game time in the first half, but who was then? Scotland?

To tell you the truth I really don't know about the 1st quarter but I will say that Boyle got a couple of cheapies early from turnovers by us in the midfield.

I actually thought Setanta had him early on but who knows. Setanta was hovering around Roughhead but each time Boyle got it Setanta seemed to be close by.

Those turnovers kill backmen who are often out of position running forward to create, when the ball is rebounded over their heads.

Certainly late in the game Walks was on Little for the majority and gave him a bath. When it was all said and done Walks certainly wasn't playing on Boyle for all 4 goals so to tar him with that brush is totally unfair.

As I said lets focus on the 20 good things he did that saved the day. Even Judd and Hird turn it over from time to time.

Regards Cazzesman

Speaking personally.....I think that Gavin Crosisca must be given some credit for our attacking backline?

And that hurts saying that.....seeing where he's from....
