Why don't we play 14 year olds?

They're not ready.

Was Kade Simpson at 18 as ready as Tim Watson at 15?

No.

They develop at different rates.

Some aren't ready until they're 21-22.

It's been a long week but get a grip Tyrant.

Send half trained troops into battle and they will get slaughtered.

It is much the same with players

I don't necessarily reckon Livo was played too early, just played with too much responsibility too early.

He needed to be taking the 2nd or 3rd tall forward in his first couple of years, not the first.

Don't agree with me Mark. I had a good argument going there...

My dear sweet Wellsy,

We're really talking about players who are "emotionally scarred" as a result of playing too early. Of course a 12 year old will be brutalised physically if played too young.

The argument is that Livo, a 19 year old male, was not "mentally ready" for his assignments, and he's never recovered "mentally". Unless Jack Worrall is suggesting that Livo's body hasn't recovered from being beaten around too often????

I thought Livo was pretty good in his first year but for a variety of reasons (many beyond his control) he never got back to that level. That's got bugger all to do with player a 60kg kid in the AFL at 18 years of age.

Tyrant, think of it like asking a girl out and she says she already has a boyfriend.

Some blokes will be scared off letting themselves open up emotionally again and shrink away and go cry in the corner.

Other blokes will take the bad news on the chin and go 'oh well' and start looking for another girl.

Other blokes will say 'so what, wanna shag?'.

thats my point. This "emotionally scarring" argument is a crock.... motivation is affected in any number of ways, very little of it because a kid was chucked in a the deepend.... it has to do with HOW the kid is managed throughout the process... which has more to do with

what does Tommy Johnston have to do with this?

Yes but Tyrant he was canon fodder in our first wooden spoon year. He was slaughtered when the ball came in with absolutely no midfield pressure and his confidence deserted him.

You're obviously no shrinking violet, but take it from a self confessed introvert that stuff like that can get you down, especially when you consider he was probably left to sit in a corner after the game by himself crushing defeat after crushing defeat.
No leadership at the club + throwing youngsters to the wolves = not a good thing IMO.

thats fine.. but thats more a comment about their management than the practice of playing players too early.

the kids all SHOULD be playing next year..... it all depends on what goals you set for them

Tyrant, I think you are being generous. Why wait for next year for the club to prove themselves. They had a perfectly good opportunity to prove themselves this year, and have done sweet bugger all. What the hell are Collo and Malouf doing over at OO? Twidling their thumbs. We are the worst side in the AFL and we have done nothing to improve our list.

besides de-list a lot of chaff (which they haven't announced yet!!!!) and draft some good kids.

They could have at least announced several sackings before now to keep us keen!!!!!!!

The list will improve naturally next year... its the direction with the senior group that troubles me.
