Fundamentally there are still serious issues with our culture and attitude. I hope GW and CD don't get sucked in by this streak. That was disgraceful in the first half, and the last 3 minutes too.
If we do get to the wildcard, what that will show is that we have developed some resilience .

This might not make sense but I think our first half was a mix of cruising because we beat Geelong - and the mental weakness we have under expectation.

So, to lift in the second half and win MAYBE is an improvement in our mental state. Keep doing that and we might actually build a culture we can take into 2027.

Pros:

Ugly win.
Smith, Harry, Hewett, Dean, Wilson, Byrne, Ainsworth, Florent.
Good 2nd halves from McGovern and Kemp.
Derksen encouraging.
Interesting seeing Frankie playing up around the ball.
Harry finally getting some free kicks in forward 50 for marking interference.

Cons:

Intensity down.
Inaccuracy and poor kicking generally. So many kicks reaching a teammate on the bounce.
Easy dropped marks.
Rucklotto.
No doubt he's sore, but I thought Walsh had a pretty average game.

Of course I WANT us to sneak into a wildcard but I also know that it would be the worst thing for the club long term. Both can be true.

Remember how winning the 2013 EF vs Richmond panned out for us?

We found a way... and got the job done

We've been on an emotional high for the past 3 weeks and was expecting a drop in intensity eventually, and this was their sugar hit.
It wasn't pretty but people forget that expected results don't always work out in this fixture.
Credit to them that they changed things up a bit and we had to work around it.

We still have a lot of work to do and you can tell that the players were relieved with the way they sang the song in the rooms.
...and I don't think I saw Fraser high-fiving the crowd after the final siren.

I'll take any win over the junkies...

They dragged us down to their level and beat us with their experience.

We did win ugly - but it shows we are better as the hunter rather than the hunted.

As for “brave” * Essendon* *. Fuckem!!!

Any close win over Essendon* is payback for their arsey close wins over us in the 90s. Cop that.

Thought we started to get it together late in the second q then really lifted the pressure after half time.

Credit to Evans for slowing down & finding Byrne for that goal in the final qtr. Thank flower for Frankie's composure there.

4 in a row. Need the bye. We're a lot better than we played tonight

Took it easy. We’ve got this. Essendon** surprised us and got some confidence and momentum. Our pressure and effort increased dramatically after half time. Yet it still went down to the wire. We all love Crippa but two shit kicks one for goal another a short 15 metre pass into the corridor that turned over nearly cost us the game. Derksen just doesn’t look up to it. Sorry. Missed Weiters big time tonight

Ben was too big for Derksen and Dean. People laughed when I said LYoung should have been selected.

Eleni is a disaster. That free against Crippa in the ruck was farcical.
Derksen looked lost. Haynes in the first half turned it over several times. As did Hayward
who struggled tonight.
Ison will learn what is needed weekly at this level.
I'm not much of an Acres fan.
Good test of our resolve in the second half. Yeah we should be winning
but previously when we should be we don't.
Cerra looks much cleaner and polished in his new role.
Kemp put some mayo on that push and than converted real well.
Harry Dean will be a seriously good player.
Gov is good value for a one year contract extension if he continues with his second
half intensity.
Bank the win and rest up.Good month of football.

We really do have some mentally inferior players in this group.

Another misery guts.

It would be the best thing the club can do, making the finals. Then anything can happen.

Despite Essendon*'s ladder position the best aspect of there game has been contested footy . A good contested football side . And everybody know's if you match us in contested ball we struggle . And that's exactly what happened . It was never going to be an easy game . Essendon* did there homework . But credit to Fraser and our assistant's coz they also did there homework and responded accordingly . All in all it was a great win . We didn't get our own way . We responded .............
P S ............. any talk of finals is crazy . We are definitely a one week at a time proposition . Just concentrate on what's immediately in front of you and nothing more . The long game will take care of itself .

The lost seconds was only an error in the broadcast graphic. The time was correct in game so it wasn’t an issue.

Hinkley said when he was coaching the umpires told him that if the guy on the mark was in the 50m line then the player with the ball could have a shot. Anything beyond the 50m line doesn’t take up the 30sec allowed for a shot at goal. Eleni stuffed up there

And when we are losing clearance, why are we using our No 1 as a ruck?

Tell me it was to throw a tag, give me something that tells me we just werent dumb
