Bondi and Mick, surely you must realise by now that people will say "I'm out", "it's over" etc after every catastrophic result, but they always come back. It's a coping strategy. We're all old bulls here, speaking old bullshit.

But let's also be clear: it's not one game, it's ten. 2 wins- one against West Coast, the other a scrape past Norf - 8 losses, and a pre-season that appears to have left us physically underdone, tactically lost, with dick pics and "personal issues" and all chips played on a kid whose knee blew out. So there is ample reason to be glum. But... we will watch against the Hawks. We're here till we die.

Howdy X Man . Hey mate , I'm as glum as all shit like everyone else . Agree there a few too many things gone wrong in the preseason . I"ll ignore that last ten games as is my prerogative . Its a new season to me and I'm gonna give it every chance . If it continues It will be concerning for sure . But for me , nah , I refuse to think the worst after one game .

Give Gov a golden grenade to the goolies.

If he has any.

That is what annoys the crap out of me.
We seem to have been rebuilding for decades and other teams rebound in a matter of several years.
It really sucks being a Carlton supporter at the moment. We once again are the laughing stock of the league.

Watching the Hawks tonight I thought one glaring weakness stood out and that is there ruck setup . Lloyd Meak is a decent workhorse at best . Tom should have a picnic . Play Young to give him a chopout . It all starts in the guts and that's where I reckon we can get them .

You watch teams like North West Coast Stkilda Richmond go sailing past us at a rate of knots.
Last years draft and trade period kill us off completely.
We were a chance to have a crack over the last 2 years. They needed to look at their list target a need and go get them.
Going to the draft every year doesn't work if it did gold Coast and GWS would be waxing flags each year. Every team has picks in the draft we have had pick ones and two come and gone.
If you are hanging your hat on nailing the draft you need to be good at it and Austin and his team totally suck. We had 2 first rounders and a dire need to strengthen our defence, we had an AA defender who is regarded as the best kick in the comp wanting to come to us and we traded up for a skinny little whippet whose body is 3 years away from being ready for AFL and now we are paying the price

So Syd you’re saying in multiple posts that our list is utterly shit and Austin has [REDACTED] it over four years but bringing in Dan Houston would have given us a chance at a flag?

No i am saying you need to bring in 2 to 3 established players each year and stop thinking that draft picks are going to deliver.
You target a need and go get it.
Surely we have worked out that getting high end draft picks doesn't work.
We needed Houston plus another 1 or 2.
Don't trade up they are kids still developing
Walker Murphy Kruezer Gibbs Weiters SPS Yarran McKay Sumner Kennedy Marchbank Cerra Pickett Setterfield all taken at pointy end of draft.

What have they delivered.

We have brought in so many . Some are good individuals.
Houston wasn't the only one available Barass and Battle were there. What do we do trade up and pick a washed up 33 year so we can get another kid.
We were in the window and elected to rebuild again.
At some stage you have to stop looking down the road and look for the now

Hawthorn are ruthless when it comes to list management

They are miles in front of us when it comes to building a premiership list

We sit on our laurels and assume it’s just going to happen

We persist with too many players that are no good which prevents us from timing our run to contend for a premiership. We continually over rate our list.

Stuck in this cycle where we climb to mid table and then drop again

Look at the kick in set play here. Training drill stuff. Do you think Carlton will be awake to it?

If my memory serves me correctly. Britain was the last coach to try something different (similar to this). That is sad……..

All we need are tough players, the closest thing we have in that department are cripps and silvagni, not really.
Give it up we are a load of sissies

If you don't belive me have a look at the de koning and i think it was the kemp incidents, then get back to me.
we are pampered pussies

Agree.
Weitering stood up for De Koning and off memory Harry for Kemp but really poor retaliation.
Not one 50 was paid for either offence, so even the umpires are treating us with contempt.
It’s embarrassing.

Yup.
We look a lot like Essendon* did against Hawks last night.
Maybe
Just maybe if we are super aggressive for 4x4. See what happens.

So many players should be dropped for this match however it appears that nobody really stood out in the VFL.
I guess Curnow, Fantasia and one of Carroll/Boyd could come in the side.
Lucas Camporeale looks a good prospect however I'm not sure that he's ready yet - do we give him another week?

Not only do we need to defend it, we would never have the space outside 50 to attempt that. Our talls congregate at 55-70m
