I really hope we have turned the corner but I suspect any improvement won't be a complete turnaround, and I am a little dubious of what happened on the weekend given Gold Coast's pressure was terrible, our first quarter was terrible, and late in the game I thought the players lost their heads a little when kicking the ball IF50. On the last point, I can sort of concede there, I mean they must have been overly excited about playing good footy and leading the game.
I think the best thing to come out of the game other than the result is the fact we looked better balanced. I think with Young out and with the attacking trio of Kemp, Boyd and Cincotta all playing down back we look a lot more agile and in turn able to provide more rebound run. And I also think we look better with 2 proper rucks - sadly that means Jack's spot in the senior side as a ruck/forward is not guaranteed (personally I think he might be best played as a defender anyhow). And also I think we looked more agile and athletic in the midfield with Hewett and Curnow both playing in the reserves. So on that I really hope Hewett doesn't come in next week. That isn't taking a shot at him, rather I just don't think we can carry so many slow mids in the one team. When we got on that role in the second quarter everyone was running and attacking and I thought Kennedy's slowness stood out like dog's balls. Again, that isn't intended as a shot at him, I mean he ended up with a stack of clearances and was really good late, I am just making the point we cannot carry so many slow mids in the 22. I think 3 slowish mids is the max we can play. Cripps, Kennedy and Cerra (who is not quick) is it. Add Hewett and/or Curnow and you're asking for trouble IMO. Hopefully Voss can see this now, because some of us have seen it all year.
Oh and the other big thing to come out of the game was Kemp seems to be growing by the week of late. This is awesome.
Agree with most of this
As far as the opposition goes GC was as. Bad as you could get in that second quarter.
There time was then and they shat themselves
We are an average side imo
Positives
We do look better with Kemp playing as a key back and no Young
More mobile
Cunningham is a very clsssy footballer
Extra pace helps
McGovern played a decent game
But the opposition was pathetic
