The week for Pitto a half in the reserves, even though Markov played a good game. Give time with Markov up forward and see if he can do the Cox role.

Good, we are closer to the form I want us to continue with than the Cats are.

Blues by 17 points or 3 points ... Pittonet back.
He and TDK will throw a spanner in the works for most teams.

Martin can warm up in the VFL. Ditto Gov....unless he can take Plow's spot.

Martin, McGovern & Pittonet could all be available this week. I would bring Martin & McGovern back through the VFL. But I’d be tempted to throw Pittonet straight in, despite TDK having a very good game against WCE and exceeding expectations generally over the past couple of months.

Assuming Pittonet is ready to go (but Owies isn’t):

In - Pittonet, Stocker
Out - Honey, Newnes
Sub - Hayes

Playing Pittonet, TDK, SOJ, Charlie & Harry is obviously a structural change from what we’ve had most of the season but I would be inclined to go with it - unless SOJ is really sore, in which case SOJ comes out and Honey stays. The weather will be another factor considered before deciding to play the extra tall.

I would prefer Stocker as the 7th defender ahead of Newnes - I think we’ll need that extra bit of hardness in defence against the Cats. However, I have a feeling that the MC will stick with Newnes if he’s fit to play.

I’m happy to keep Hayes as sub, but would be equally fine if he came into the 22 and either LOB or Cottrell are made sub.

McGovern straight in for Plowman if he’s ready to go.

Owies and Martin for Honey and Motlop if they’re ready to go. Motlop pretty stiff, I’d be tempted to keep him in and give Martin a game in the 2s as he usually takes a while to get going after he comes back from injury.

Hayes for O’Brien. LOB has improved but he just isn’t strong enough in the contest to compete in the big moments. If we want to go deep into September he will get found out. A hard Geelong side at the G is a preview of that environment. There will be nowhere to hide out there. Hayes is an experienced player who has been dominating the 2s all season. Deserves a chance.

Pittonet plays 2s for me. Been out a long time and there will be a bit of rust. Plus I think the side is really well balanced at the moment. Concerned about being too top heavy with 3 tall forwards and 2 ruckmen. Ruck isn’t a strength of Geelong so I’d back TDK and SOS again

Kemp first. Deserves it. Mc Gov needs form, and he we have’t had him all year.

Farmer Blue had this to say about LOB after the weagles game:

O’Brien had 3 tackles, 3 contested possessions and 10 pressure acts. Did his job

I would have him tag Dangerfield on that recommendation!

Everyone is talking changes but no one has mentioned one of the most important and under-rated players in the comp...

He has been sadly forgotten :(.... Does anyone know what happened to him? he was supposed to play in the VFL this week... did he make it? when is he coming back?????????????? I really want to see him back.... he is my first choice over any other player cause he gives heart and soul and he is an elite runner......

Of course, i am talking about the one and only Ed Currnow

Not a great time to cop the cats. They could have kicked another 10 vs Melbourne. Will be a great win if we can do it.

Very harsh especially after a good win on the road.

O’Brien had 3 tackles, 3 contested possessions and 10 pressure acts. Did his job

14 disposals at 57% efficiency. Numerous dropped marks. Numerous half efforts.
Hayes showed more commitment in 10 minutes.
Never heard O'Brien's name called out by the commentators so many times in such a short period as when it took them 10 minutes to realise that Hayes is in fact not O'Brien.

Their dog turd shaped ground gives them a 4-5 goal advantage IMO. So glad we're not playing them there.

Fair call. Kemp had some pretty tough gigs playing the second tall while Weiters was out and did well. Deserves a chance as the third tall / intercept defender which is probably his most natural position. I’d be happy with Kemp in and Gov coming in through the 2s

They are without Tom Stewart so not such a bad time.

19 possessions in the VFL on limited game time, looked rusty but worked his way into it.

Credit to Hayes for a nice cameo but it's much easier to go all-in knowing there's only 10% of the game left. LOB's endurance and two-way running is hugely beneficial to the team and that's why he keeps getting selected ahead of other options. It's not like the match committee are blind to his faults or showing favoritism - he has been dropped, but won his place back and held it, so he's doing plenty right. Looking forward to sarcastically being called the LOB Fan Club president now.

O'Brien had 14 possessions, 6 of which were turnovers. He played a lot of the game on Andrew Gaff. Gaff had a game high 30 possessions, equal 2nd highest 5 stoppage clearances, 14 contested possessions. 5 score involvements which is the 2nd best for WC, 5 inside 50's of which at least 2 resulted in goals. Plus 502 metres gained which is 4th best on he ground.
Makes "3 contested possessions" a bit less impressive, doesn't it?
Doing your "job" includes calculating how your opponent performs as well.

Stocker is in the same position as Dow - if he hasn’t been picked by now, he’s on the shelf until catastrophic injuries come along.

Agree that Pittonet should be straight back in if fit. If Kennedy can put in another big shift like he did against the WCE mids, then there should be rotations on the table. In that case, I think the structural change can work in our favour… rotate the ruck through the bench and bring Martin in as that high half forward to release Walsh back up into a full-time mid role.

IN: Pittonet, Martin, Owies
OUT: Newnes, O’Brien/Cottrell, Honey

Lets not muck around. McLovin for Plowman. I cannot stand to watch this guy fall to the ground with that dumb look on his face. He makes me so angry. His lack of tackling and intensity does my head in.

And Pitto needs to come in. You can use TDK all over the ground. JSOS just needs a rest full stop. He limps to the end of each game, but goes all out and tries his guts out all the time. Good boy JSOS.

Get rid of Newnes and Plowman for McLovin and Pitto. Geelongs forward line is a different beast. We have the two talls to go with their power forwards. McLovin can play as the rebounding defender.

Won't matter who we have down back if we don't win the midfield battle. Even a shitbiscuit team like WCE can kick 7 in a quarter when they get on top in the middle.

Your logic is sound - except for McLovin, just can’t trust his body.

From now on unless you’re Charlie, Harry, Paddy, Sam everyone come back via the twos.
