I will go back to what I said at the start of the year.
We have 6 key players if they all play We beat anyone . Lose 1 and we are still competing
Lose 2 We are bottom of the 8
Lose 3 We miss the 8.

We are down 2 and it showed today as it totally screwed with team structure.

Weiters Saad Walsh Cripps Curnow Harry

Look at Melbourne yesterday they lost May and they fell apart.

We need Harry and Weiters back quickly

I can live with the loss, but the injury to Weitering is just so disappointing.

The second half of the year is going to be bloody tough - for most (or all) of it we’ll be without Weitering, Harry, Pittonet, McGovern, Williams & OMac. No doubt we’ll get more injures along the way (I didn’t see the VFL today, but did I hear that Martin didn’t finish the game?).

I don’t think I’m being too dramatic to say that top 4 is off the table now; I’ll be rapt if we can scrape into the eight from here. Weitering is that big of a loss to us, on top of all the others.

Pros:

Kept fighting.
Saad, Walsh and Cerra were superb.
Cripps leadership and willingness to continue to sacrifice his game for the team.
Charlie's effort against 2-3 opponents.
LOB and Newman were good.
Dow laid 5 tackles. Pity he didn't want to kick it.
Another good presser from the coach.

Cons:

With Weiters injury, we ran out of talls.
Just got slaughtered on the rebound. Ball was exploding out of our defence. Despite Owies last quarter, he, Motlop and Carroll got slaughtered. Kept on getting outcrumbed in forward 50 and didn't apply pressure. I know we're short on numbers right now, but Motlop and Carroll need a rest.
Newnes had a stinker of a first half.
Cottrell got badly exposed by Sidebottom in the 3rd quarter.
Having to listen to Brian Taylor again.

Our small forwards seem to have a habit of being either really good, or really crap

If it was me I'd recruit Ben Silvagni and Hugh Goddard in the mid-season draft. I don't know what they are doing at the moment, but at least they know most of the guys and we need some tall defenders pronto.

Do we know yet what Weiters injury is?
Although I think his loss is a huge blow for our season, I don’t think he was the major reason we lost (even though surely he is worth at least another goal and hence the win…).
My point is they ran us off our feet righty across the ground and many of their F50 marks were uncontested in 20m of space. And we just gave them the ball several times when we were shaping for a scoring opportunity.
We have a huge month coming up - we’ll learn a lot about our character.

He sees the play unfolding before most - he would've intercepted a few of those entries. He would've directed traffic so they wouldn't have had as much time and space (sure we can still get done on the overlap). He would've hit targets coming out of defense and perhaps in more attacking positions. We were down a little in pressure and Collingwood were flying but with him and one of Kennedy or Martin (as a target coming out of defense) in the side and the result would've been different.

You know the 1 thing that annoyed me more than anything about yesterday.
Not the result.
Not the effort.

The fact that bloody De Goey should've put his head over the ball and instead flaked it when he saw players coming at him leading to weiters bump and injury.

In previous years we would have lost that by 5 goals, But...

We were Too Short.

Short 1 tall forward.

Short 1 intercept marking defender.

Short 1 Ruckman.

That said, if Jack's late snap goes through we pinch the game.

So, Short, a bit of luck at the end.

Absolutely hate losing, BUT, all things considered i am very comfortable with how we are tracking as a team

Loved Voss press conference, no excuses given

We will be ok, just need some luck with injuries

At full strength or close to we can go with anyone

Go Blues

Yesterday reminded me why I haven't been to a Collingwood game in years.
From the screeching banshee behind me abusing the shit our of her own players from the first bounce to the last, with the exception of Ginnivan who she wanted to have kids with, to their brainless zombie "Coll-ing-wooood" chant, to the bloke wanting to punch on with a Carlton supporter who was built like an oak tree after the game while his partner consoled his hysterical kid it wasn't a pleasant experience.

As for the game itself, I was less disappointed than I thought I'd be. Played poorly, lost one if the best defenders in the comp early, but almost snatched the win. So much better than previous seasons.

My husband went yday, made some comments about JDG shouldn't be playing because he's a guilty of violence against women, got Filth fans threatening him and wanting to "go out the back and sort it out". I mean, the irony.

Collingwood were clearly the better side however in the end our match committee probably cost us the match. Blind Freddy could see that Carroll was struggling with the tempo of AFL and that Martin was a better option.

Keep playing close games you'll eventually lose one

Casboult would be handy right now. Can play forward , ruck and defense.

Hahaha...yep It reminded me of the time I went to see a showdown here in in Adelaide and a Crows supporter stood up and yelled

"Rhett Biglands....You can have my baby !!!!"

Nuff said.

Morning off work so I’m affording myself the luxury (!) to listen to SEN.

Collingwood genius calls in trying to argue Grundy was a bigger ‘out’ than Weitering and that Weitering going down had no influence on the result.

Even Gerard laughed at him.
