Understanding where we are at and having realistic expectations doesn't mean you can't criticise awful performances like today. At least IMHO.

We have to be accountable to 'new Carlton' standards if we want to improve. Today we weren't even close.

Is it really that surprising when we have probably the worst forward line ever seen at AFL level?

If there has been a worse one than those that we have used this season then it must have been pretty @#$%&! woeful!

If you were an opposition coach planning for an upcoming match against Carlton, which Carlton forwards would cause you even the slightest concern?

There is neither any individual brilliance nor any semblance of forward teamwork to create space etc. for other players. Most of the goals we kick seem to come from long bombs/broken/scrappy play and not from any real system of forwards leading into space to present options at the ball carrier.

Basically we carry no threat and won't get anywhere until we have something for the opposition to worry about up front.

Can you provide the quotes from Trigg and Bolton?

Best I can find:

CARLTON has officially declared it's in the race to lure star midfielder Jaeger O'Meara away from Gold Coast.

"We've spoken to his management but there's a lot of management that we're speaking to at the moment, just to test the water," Carlton CEO Steven Trigg told 3AW on Saturday.

Two of the guys that tore is up today were Newnes and Ross, picks 25 and 37 in the 2011 draft. Around six foot and 80-85 kgs with strong builds. We need to stock our midfield with these types. For some reason we've avoided them like the plague in the last 10 years.

It's official then, we are giving up this year and next years first round picks for him, abandoning any list management plan and declaring him God and saviour of carlton.

this is my biggest issue this year
we bomb and bomb and bomb
we have coach's for everything, how is it possible that we have not addressed this issue all year
how many times did we continue to go into our forward line without our forwards creating space for each other or even leading towards the ball carrier (when they were there)
stkilda were patient and spotted up the leading forward time and time again and killed up playing great footy
you can blame the players but the majority of fault has to go to our coaching department for our complete disarray of forward structure all year
I know we are working on team defence but you cannot be competitive and impose pressure on your opposition without an offensive game

Has a team ever had their leading goal kicker (Gibbs, 18 goals) so far down the Coleman? 68th!

Our forward line is non existent and we all knew that prior to the year....But when we look ahead to the future, we can see a potential killer forward line of: Curnow, Mackay & Silvagni. If we can recruit some genius small forward to complement them, we will have a decent forward line.

Saints have been rebuilding for a few years now. Logic says they would be better than us. If anything they have shown us a bit of blueprint for what type of player to go after. The dees too. Solid midfielders. Both the saints and the Dees have midfielders that are built like tanks.
The Saints were so strong over the ball. They got ahead of the ball a fair bit and that probably wont look so good against a top team but to me they are a strong hard running well balanced football machine in the making.

We looked like skinny little boys out there today.

Agreed. THAT is what irked today was missed tackles, strolling back,...watching. ..that sort of rubbish. That's the difference between losing by 12 goals or losing by 12 points.

Thats hardly a definite statement that carlton wants him and will do anything to get. I think the more important part of that quote is that they are "there is a lot of management that we are speaking to...". Basic due diligence that any club does. Nothing to suggest the club will not continue to embrace the draft like last year!

IF carlton were solely into the draft we would not be speaking to omeara - smoke and fire

Most disappointing performance of the season
An embarrassing performance inept disposal lack of intensity effort application
Like Bolts but tired give me a break from the first Casboult clanger in the first performance by most shocking and the type we were calling for Micks head last year
Must back Boults but let's hope he was tearing strips of them for a very uncompetitive lazy and dispirited effort
Only Cripps Simpson touhy and maybe docherty should put their hand out for payment for game
Disappointing that team are showing Jack and writers they have little heart

Twice this year we have made Membrey look like Tony Lockett
Saints played well but such unaccountable footy will result in a loss to the Lions
List needs further renovation a couple have 3 games to show something or see you later

I wasted a beautiful Sunday afternoon watching a rabble improve or piss off

No injured stars with out first pick. Prefer to chase Tomlinson, Stewart, steel, and Marchbank as a package from GWS. Like last year, they might not want alot with both real salary cap pressure now as well as wanting the points for academy kids. They'll be looking to offload badly. A 2nd and 3rd round pick would be the equivalent to a first round pick to them given it goes to a gun academy kid. We have a spare 3rd rounder courtesy of the Dogs so happily go with that if we could arrange it.

Pros:
Zach, Simmo

Cons:
3 young guys failed to fire a shot- Graham, Boekhurst & Buckley- very disappointing
Ruckmen didn't give us much at all
1AW fairwell reflecting what has been a dismal period to be playing in the dark navy blue
Crowd was 10k less than their home game

We might use a couple of picks, a 2nd and 3rd rounder, to get 4 GWS blokes again, maybe a better group than previous if it's Tomlinson, Marchbank, Steele and Stewart. Like last year, they might not want alot with both salary cap pressure now as well as wanting the points for academy kids. They'll be looking to offload badly. A 2nd and 3rd round pick would be the equivalent to a first round pick to them given it goes to a gun academy kid. We have a spare 3rd rounder courtesy of the Bulldogs. Then we'd still have a first and 3rd rounder plus what we can trade into.

Makes more sense if you imagine a fulll stop after rabble. :P (frank's post)
Personally I enjoyed the snooze in the sun today Frank. Cant get by without a good dose of
detachment these days. Looking forward to next season.Reckon we will be really good. Lose another handful...pick up some more guns. We are on our way.
