This shows a lack of leadership at the club. To be looking outside the club and an old team mate, he must have no trust or a strong bond with anyone at the club.

Did he mouth off and someone tried to deck him (dumb, but ok)?

Did someone mouth off at him and he tried to deck them (bad, but not irreparable)?

Was he completely innocent until he finally took a shot at some idiot trying to deck him (self-defence)?

There's more scenarios of course, but I reckon it's probably the first one I've mentioned given the way the club is handling it.
