Great work Doc, love it. I think Keogh can be pretty bitter, but let's face it, the last 15 years has given is plenty to be bitter about. I can't understand how anyone is positive about the direction we are headed, what direction is it anyway? Seems to be different points of the compass on different days of the week. We are rebuilding, we aren't rebuilding, our list can be a contender/ be final 8/ is crap. We get these messages from the club on different days, often from the same people. Without major changes, and a clear long term strategy we are on that well worn road to mediocrity, we have been on it for years and there is no end in sight.
We are years behind most clubs in most areas. At the rate we are going Gibbs and Murphy will be retired before we have a list capable of getting us near the prelim. We are like the Bombers in the 70s - vanilla. When we start making decisions that might lead to a sustained successful future, be positive. But if our supporters are satisfied with anything the club does and uncritical of anyone associated with the club then we will be where we are for a long time. I reckon we should be contenders for the 8 next year, and then as players like Judd and Simpson retire we will head down the ladder again.
There is no quick fix, recruiting high priced free agents with dodgy ankles isn't going to help us long term and we aren't going to be in flag contention any time soon. We need a coach who is committed and capable for the long term and an admin that understands and supports that.
MLG is the most important person at the club, he must set a clear strategy for success at all levels of the club, get the best people to implement it, get it right. And that's everywhere, coaching, recruiting, development, admin, finances, and most importantly, our falling and ageing supporter base. Anyone under 20 will only know Carlton as a crap side.
I have been there in the good times. I am lucky. I can take us being ordinary as long as it is a means to an end, unfortunately it appears to be an end in itself.
