Absolute histrionics by some on here regarding MM of late.

Gulity pleasure: I used to watch Mick's pressers for Collingwood because I loved the way he stared down flower journos and gave them their whack when deserved. They're even worse now, the Essendon* saga has proved that without a doubt. I have no issue with him in the heat of the moment post match (particularly after losses) giving garbage questions and garbage journos their due. He's never disrespectful in regards to his language, perhaps demonstrative  in his tone and manner sometimes, but he's old school - grandparents don't suffer fools lightly and neither does he.

For once I'll agree with Synners - he hasn't threatened to "deck" a journo. He also hasn't punched a hole in the wall in the coach's box, he hasn't abused an umpire at a junior game, he hasn't abused the AFL duty ground manager during a game and he hasn't directly approached an opposition player and engaged him during a retirement presentation. Oh but he has given death stares, and asked "What do you think? Well there you go" to stupid journos asking questions with obvious answers.

"Spits and scratches" like a feral cat, some unchained loon waiting to tear the faces of any hapless journo burdened with the task of entering the post-match presser.

Give it a bloody break. I'm glad we have a coach that has the balls to call it direct and not bumble around stats and catchphrases. I feel he does a good job answering the questions put to him...the quality of the questions is another story entirely. The more he speaks the more obvious it is just how much he knows about the game and how ill-equipped the list is to meet his expectations. He can't give too much away other than "we'll need to work on that," but he knows what's wrong and what's needed to fix it...he just can't come out each week saying "we're one week closer to kicking some of these hacks out," but through his pressers I believe he knows what it takes to be a good football side. Hell, he's done it several times before. How often have our guys proven they can?

Honestly, some people on TC are worse than the journos. Jumping at shadows and seeing things that aren't there. For what it's worth I thought the Sydney presser was one of the most measured, composed and least "spitty" and "scratchy" he's done while at Carlton.

RIP Sam Lane

Say what I said is true and agree with my point like I agreed with yours.

That's not confirmed at all.

Bolton took over because it was easier to take the guy not responsible for one line away from his role, rather than making the midfield coach responsible for midfield and game day.

Mick's PC's are fine. Journo's ask dumb questions, he calls them out on it. Any member taking a message from a coach in the PC wouldn't realise it doesn't mean anything.

Can you imagine finishing a crappy day at work only to have to face media scrutiny over your performance? I take my hat off to the guy. After a bad day at work and some wet behind the ears drip questioning you about your job, of which mind you, he/she knows absolutely nothing about.
I think MM handles it well, even colourful at times when the annoying task of facing the media is concerned. I know I always tune in to watch Micks PC as I find it often entertaining if not totally  at times. Mick adds a bit of old school colour and cannot be condemned for that. If we were winning more, I think we'd have a different mind set when watching Mick do his thing. But straight after another bloody disappointing lose, he's an easy target to focus angst towards ...

Which brings me to my point.People are more than entitled to ask Mick a question..Thats there right.Hell, ive had little jabs at him myself...............Journos are entitled to ask civil questions and are entitled to get civil answers............thats the trouble though aint it.They aint civil questions. They are loaded questions, trick questions, sneaky talk around corners sorta questions. When a journo asks Mick about Carlton they arent even slightly interested in his answer, they just want him to trip up so they can pounce. They are the ultimate sadists who revel in there preys suffering.I cant believe the outrage against Mick.Me,i'm wrapped that we have a coach that gets on the front foot and gives the Journo's ther own medicine. And when they cop there right whack the sooks squeal like two year olds chucking a tantrum.Poor it on 'em Mick, thats what i say.Reckon Micks press conferances are his strong suite,in fact i would like him to go harder.
Effen hell folks,T Cers fealing sorry for journos, takes the cake for mine

Top post Mick. I usually quite like Sam Lane (although she has been rather SEVENised), but fair dinkum, talk about passive-aggressive!!! "Here's poor little ole innocent female intellectual footy journalist just asking some fairly innocent clever questions..... and OMFG...... how you've reacted you big bloody brute .... I am so offended.... help, help!! somebody come to my rescue - that big bad wolf is eating me up!!!" Give us a break!

And the best bit is that every other bloody """""""""journo"""""""""", goes hard at Mick for it, harder than at BT who called someone a poofter, has done it before, and then """""apologised""""" by basically saying sorry I insulted you..... (because we all know that being gay is a bad thing), and when all's said and done, at the end of the day, we're all mates, good bloke, you can have a beer with BT......... (but not with Mick - or Ahmed Saad - dirty filthy gypo drug cheat).

I HATE THIS CULTURE!!! I only "follow" it because I'm rusted on, it's an addiction. I may just have to go cold turkey one day, and then dammit, all I'll have to do with my time is drink craft beer, good wine, and whisky, bourbon and rum, and write....... Hmmmmm, come to think of it......

Well Malthouse was no bannana until we picked him up.
He was doing television because Eddie knew it was time to put him out to pasture

STOP!!!!

That is such a stupid comment. As I've told you before, Eddie put him out to pasture - 2 YEARS IN ADVANCE - in 2009. Right after that, to Eddie's great horror, Mick took his club to two consecutive grand finals for a premiership (that club's first in 20 years). Eddie was left with egg on his face but already had committed and had to go through with it. Let me tell you, if he could've he would've rescinded the whole deal at the end of 2011 and given Mick a 3 year extension.

Quite obviously, that's what he should've done. How's Buckley doing with that Premiership list now?

sam handled him really well.
She's made no fuss.
her dad only responded because he was asked a direct question by caro,
which he answered honestly, without being dramatic,
and said Sam was quite capable of looking after herself..
which she is
and
MM acts like a complete ass at Pressers..
always has
always
will.
go Argie! nice color blue they have on today.

How can you suggest that straight after acknowledging you don't know what they asked

I think he does speak with the members in mind ie "the club has to harden up"

Just speaking in general terms lb re all footy people with a microphone in front of them.

I haven't bothered with any MMM press conferences for yonks given his propensity to say jack shit whilst using a thousand words. Even his interview on 360 after Hafey's death was a master class in waffle.

Avoid his public utterances at all costs.

Not my fault if you find it hard to come to terms that we hired a coach Eddie politely sacked

Said he was worried about his health in other words he was losing it

In other words he had to safe face. What did you want him to say?

"Well yeah, we were pretty embarrassed with how we completely flowered it up, but what can you do, eh? If only he hadn't won us that flower flag I coulda looked like a genius. But shit eh, now we're stuck with Bucks and I look like an idiot".

No, easier to say "We were worried about Mick's health".

I agree they chose Bolton as head coach and not Ratts. I just don't agree with which banana that makes him or what it matters.

I reckon Bucks is doing pretty well with rebuilding a side that won a flag 4 years ago, a fair bit better than the Saints who were in that grand final and a fair bit better that the Blues with a younger less experienced side. Looking like a good call on McGuire's part to not sack Malthouse. Mick was a successful coach, as were Lethal Leigh, Blight, Parko and many others. But you have to know when to hold them and know when to fold them, not be seduced by mega bucks and Carlton committeemen telling you you are the messiah.

Still I have spent most of my life living and breathing the club, elated with wins and devastated by losses but the direction of the club over the last 6 or so years when we have totally wasted the opportunity to become great again has cured me of all that, and now, with Mr sour as coach, I have even less reason to care. I am still a member, but even that might fall by the wayside if we consider re-signing Mick before the end of next season. If we have another season like this one there should be no way he remains.

I reckon there are thousands of Carlton members with similar views Gerry.

The irony is that the Carlton brains trust were so concerned about membership numbers that they wanted a "name" coach after Ratten was given the flick.
