Clearly our older players are near the end and it is good to have some younger players coming through, but we don't have another Judd. Menzel will be very good but we are a long way short in emerging talent. Who is under 25, not playing and likely to improve our side significantly in the next few years - hopefully Cripps. Who else? We seem to have got through the 2009/10/11 drafts with f/s Dylan B being the only likely long term prospect. We will be lucky to finish 12th. Given that Judd is one of the players we will lose soon and he made us 5 goals better, we need a lot more than we currently have on the list to become a final 8 side let alone a flag side. Our 30 year history of average to mediocre drafting, lack of development and lack of foresight have left us as a mediocre club with no ideas except reverting to the old ways of sacking coaches, employing big name coaches on way to much money, desperation recruiting of good players with injury worries on way too much money. If we want to stick with 'steady as she goes' and swallow Mick's self serving justifications we will be in the same spot for the next decade or more.

As clear as the drinking water in mumbai. Yes we dont have another judd, neither do another 16 clubs, soon gc will lose theirs as well.
5 goals ? Where did you pull that from?
Emerging talent well, i concede that on evidence to date, that our penchant for big name recruits leads us to the conclusion that there arent enough out there to replace the retirees, which spells trouble. But i saw a man called malthouse call the shots last recruiting period and i liked what i saw. He targeted everett and got his man. Docherty was also serenaded by mick and this more than who he barracked for got him over the line. Daisy was a deliberate strategy to inject some overt leadership into the playing group....ie he was not just any old star player. He was recruited by mick to fill a social void in the playing group.
Rather than do what ratten did and leave the underperforming fringe players undeveloped in the 2's mick has targeted roles for them and waited until they could fulfill them. Buckley and Rowe being the most obvious. Additionally gibbs and yarran are coming along showing their true potential. Casboult has been persisted with as his marking ability is a great asset. His fitness is clearly improved and will continue to do so, and his Achilles , his kicking is being worked on.
Bell is being given opportunity and has really improved his tank. Ellard has been developed as a defensive forward. Curnow just keeps getting better. Lucas has been given the opportunity, but despite glimpses, is found wanting. I have no doubt mick has said to him that he needs to work on those deficiencies before getting more regular game time.

There is enough in the above to work with, plus our new first year recruits which are largely unseen. But with the retirements that we have coming through ,is massive opportunity to grab some emerging talent from other clubs. If we got another three like last year we are well on our way.
