Here's an idea Michael (and based on last night this also goes for Marc, Bryce, Kade etc) , as a leader here is a novel thought ... How about you grow a pair and also grow some psychological fortitude, confidence and pride, and actually work hard and go in hard every week??

I know that must be a shock to the system, but seriously, instead of admitting every second week that you didn't work hard enough maybe you could try to work hard every week?? You know, like be consistent.

Go hard at the ball and the man
Chase and tackle hard when we don't have the ball
Equally, run hard when we have the ball to create options for your team mates
And try to do it for four quarters
And try to maintain this work ethic even when the ball doesn't bounce your way and the opposition jump a couple goals ahead

I dunno, maybe it's too hard to work hard all the time

No more lip service please

I have a similar sporting career story to Grro but mine was more of a Ricky Mott tale...

i didn't have the talent and I didn't work hard at all.

a battling team is a mediocre team

we are in this business to win premierships not to continually be mediocre

obviously real effort is required by all players but you also need sufficient A grade players to win premierships

I agree with both points of view. We need the talent and we need to start telling it like it is when we don't win. I have never heard a player after a game say that he thought he and his teammates were crap but I have heard them say that they weren't good enough (implying that they weren't playing good enough football) and looking visibly incensed about it. Our players look nonchalant and sound like they think they can pull a better performance from out of their ar**. It's indicative of where we are at as a club.

If the players are not playing hard enough, it is the coaches fault. This game reminded me of the game against gc with ratten coaching his 2nd last game.

I just hate that we had a reasonable list 2 years ago and expectations were for top 4. Ratten has an injury plagued season. Misses finals and sacked. Bring in mick and l cannot think of one improvement. Team has gone backwards and not playing for him. He will be lucky to finish out this year if the team continues with this lack of effort and intensity.

Who appoints the coaches?

Who sets the standards at the club? the direction?

This is an ALL IN, situation rather than directing blame to one person or another and absolving others of any responsibility - and that includes the players, the board and everyone in between

Enough with this delusional Ratten crap.
We did not have a reasonable list in 2012. If we did, we'd ve been able to cover for our injuries. Ask players from Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney what they thought / still think of us.
Bunch of downhill skiers who are mentally fragile. Just happy to get their fat pay packet, play pretty to watch footy now and then, and believe the delusional bull that's been coming out of our Club for years.
By the way, bet you deliberately overlooked the fact we didn't once beat a side in the Top 4 in Ratten's 'glory year' of 2011.
The players Ratten assembled are not capable if playing Premiership football.
They are proving this under MM, as they are not capable of grasping or executing aspects of the game to make them better defensively.
P.S. Why can injuries be used as an excuse for Ratten and not fir MM this year ? After all, 22 players had opps over pre season, and we've had no Judd, Kreuzer and Carrazzo virtually all year.

Problem is half the team are battlers with no skill, and the other half are skillful but don't battle hard enough.

If I recall correctly, 90% of the posters here were saying injuries were no excuse in 2012, including you.
So why bring it up now?
How do you know 22 players had operations? You know because the club and coaches are the ones making excuses. You cant have it both ways.

The end result is there's no excuses and we're 16th on the ladder. Obviously we've gone backwards and everyone involved shares responsibility.

We have StKilda, Adelaide & Brisbane in the next month. All Winable and as a coach I would expect nothing less! These 3 games are crucial games for this playing group's future at CFC.
Drop 1 of these and I expect huge ramifications for them. MM will start shovelling!
Win all 3 and we're sitting 5 & 5 with 2 top sides to come.
Now when was the last time this group has won 3 games in a row?
I expect nothing less than 3 wins and more importantly MM to go nowhere, so the players are playing for there careers at CFC over the next month. Unfortunately I have a feeling many we love as well!

I agree about no more excuses but most of these players have had enough chances.

They are lazy and mentally weak. They need to go. The longer they are at the club the worse it will get. There is an acceptance that it's okay. We are #UNITED. FFS.

At least half the list doesn't deserve to wear the Carlton jumper. What they have turned it into is a disgrace and whilst they are there it WONT change.

As a club we need to change. Get rid of united and make it #CHANGE.

Exactly, it goes with our 'theme of the year' style recruiting and the fact that rookies make up too much of our list.

Look, the rebuild failed, we just need the administration to accept it and start again, hoping we get it right this time and learn from our mistakes

I haven't really heard anyone from our Club use that excuse for years.

The problem with our "rebuild" is we started in the penthouse.

We really need to start with the foundations this time.

Although we'll need to get rid of most of those who are in the penthouse at the moment.

Couldn't agree more. It failed dismally and now we are entrusting mark 2 to MLG and essentially the same idiots who [REDACTED] up the first time. I need to see big changes before I'm convinced we are not paddling down the same stream once again.
