I just don't understand how we can go from an ok team last year to a absolute mess. I wouldn't have thought game structures would have changed much between last year and now. It seems like there may be factions forming between the playing group. Gibbs has stated he won't sign until he gets clarification on where the club is headed. This means list management, this would have struck a nerve with players on the list, in a way this is putting your teammates down. Simpson has now stated there are passengers on the list and need to lift their game, it's true they need to lift but why publicly state it. Your only going to cause disharmony between the group. Now i'm not sure who hangs out with who in their inner social circles but with the addition of thomas, could there be a new brat pack forming, I don't know just a theory.

I would also stop pouring money into the Arizona trip - divert the money to recruiting/player development.

Geelong go to Falls Creek each pre season.

Agree.

I question Buttifants program when observing how flat the players look.

You wouldn't question it if the reverse happened.

Well look at the player turnover from last year we had one real marque player who departed but gained Thomas and Everitt. How can we go back so far in the space of 12 months. If anything Our list is still serviceable. Murphy quoted after the Essendon* game that the players were playing for themselves and not each other. What causes this? player disharmony, too many egos.

The biggest mistake we could make now are the short term feel good sacrifice (eg demote Murphy, sack Malthouse etc.) its like peeing in the pants to keep warm. What we need is a the best President we can get and probably a better CEO. And that's it for the moment.

Quite possibly but what we need is people who are willing to give their best no matter what.
I'd tell Mick his position is being reviewed. His role will be streamlined and his support staff will be reviewed and replaced if necessary. (Which is very probable)
A list manager will be appointed and a senior assistant will be appointed.
Tell him Leading Teams will come in to build leadership as his efforts to do so have failed dismally.

What chance he will accept that without sooking up? His past history tells me he wont come to terms with it.
By all means keep the incumbents but if they can't come to terms with the radical changes necessary, they'll be holding you back.

who is "we"????

me and u.. and mikky etc???

of course the president board and ceo would need to fix it...

but havent they been fixing things alot already???

u dont get a ripper team if u dont have a ripper president and board

thompson didnt structure geelong...

costa balme and cook did

how do i know it wasnt thompson

well thompson left geelong as a club that was written off.. and the next coach came in and won a flag immediately

but they obviously have good recruiters and developers

and they didnt just appear out of thin air

And who did Chris Scott credit the 2011 premiership victory to???

The playing list led by extraordinary quality and depth in its leadership group

A leadership group comparable to the blues in the 1979-82 period. (+1987)

Cook, Costa and Balme should be given huge credit for demanding honesty from the players in 2006. And from themselves and everybody else.

Remember, those cats players up to that period under Thompson were the softest players mentally I have seen since the psychologically disturbed Collingwood teams of the 60s, 70's and early 80s (and those magpies were still succesful - its just that they couldnt get over that final hurdle in September)

In the end the players need to see the light...

forget the criticism and negativity.

Go out there, give it everything, enjoy the pain and have fun. Take on the game, the opposition and themselves - push themselves to the limit...

team ethics, workrate and 1%ers, start there - your skills will back these "basics" up...

If you go down? then you can walk off with heads held high - you front up again next week with the same attitude

Supporters will not be dissapointed with the players or the coach or the club - just the loss - thats ok. Nobody likes losing.

If you Play like the past 2 weeks???

Then you deserve everything you get from all angles.

and more! you &^%$*# clowns

Speed by leg or ball use?

Personally I think we need mentally tough elite ball users as our first priority.

Short answer:
Replace every single board member tomorrow. Replace them with people who actually know what they're doing.
These people will then replace the CEO with someone who knows what they're doing.
This new CEO will replace under performing members of the executive with people who know what they're doing.
The executive will replace under performing members of staff with people who know what they're doing.

Shit flows downhill. I've been involved in two turnarounds of businesses about the same size as the CFC, and in just as much poo. There is NO substitute for focused, intelligent and passionate senior leaders who actually know what they're doing. You don't have that, you have nothing. Our board is effectively designed to guarantee failure; both through their own incompetence and through the incompetence of those they hire to run the executive.

The problem, of course, is that there is no-one overseeing the board. No parent company to tap the board and make sweeping changes. Someone is going to have to methodically build a ticket and take these people out. As supporters, we can only hope such change comes sooner rather than later, and the ticket is actually a good one.

The long answer is incredibly micro and involves getting a hundred little things right. But they all stem from that one big thing.
