Finishing 6th, 7th or 8th would be nice.

Play finals, win a couple and sit back and admire the smouldering remains of Windy Hill.

A pass would be 8-5 and to win a final.

I think we will be the same as last year. Daisy's increase will cover Judd's decrease, but apart from that - we are the same list.

We still have poor skills, rush forward to players in a worse position or not ready to take the ball. We have an ordinary spine - still. Too many list cloggers...

We hope and pray each week that Waite, Warnock, Yarron, Bootsma, Levi etc suddenly hit their peak, but these "project players" still make up 40% of the weekly team.

this unfortunately

Top six. Don't see or understand why we should accept anything less then that. We just need to become a side that performs week in, week out.

I like the idea of Docherty, Menzel, Bell, Thomas, Everitt, Watson, Mcinnes, Ellard, Graham and potentially Casboult with Cripps changing the look of our best 22/25 significantly. All of them are players who didn't play for the majority/all of last season for various reasons and these additions are where you expect a fair chunk of your improvement to come from. Murphy, Yarran, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Robinson and Hendo are all established core players who have plenty of upside left in them too. Media seems to love North for some reason despite the fact that Swallow is injured and they a unskilled, plodding midfield. Only ones with decent ball use are Harvey, Dal Santo and Wells who are all past their prime.

We have 9 top 10 draft picks
8 of them reaching the age where they should be close to their peak
And one of them probably the 2nd best player in the comp over the last 10 years

We also have the most experienced coach in the comp
We should be winning a flag

BM123 and SB make make good points.
With MM in his second year and building "his own list" we need to finish top four then contend for the flag.

Nothing else is acceptable.

Naah, I like your level of optimism, but there are not enough game breakers in the team.

Yarran proved he could be a game breaker vs West Coast last year, but did he persist with the level he was capable of ?

No. Other game breakers? Murphy, Henderson and Judd.. that is about it.

Btw - I rate Judd as the best player of the last ten years bar none. It all depends on how you analyse matches and performances I guess. If rated on accolades he is behind G Ablett, but in terms of what I have seen with my own eyes Judd is the best.

I would think at least 80% of people would agree with you. Just look at Ablett's accolades MVPs etc when compared to Judd.

But I am going on the wow factor and I have never seen a player like Judd before...I guess Dangerfield is at least partly a similar type in terms of the explosive power out of packs, but even then it isn't the same as Judd. Judd dances, Dangerfield is more brute power.

5th or 6th would be over achieving, but plausible if we dig in and have a little good luck with health.

7th or 8th -- expected. This is where I think we're at.

9th or beyond, would be a bad season and warrant question time, imo. It'd have to be the death blow for our front office & board, surely.

Carlton didn't employ Malthouse for a rebuild...

What is it that Carlton supporters don't get about intent versus reality? We deserve whatever comes our way, good or bad. Talking about 'pass marks' at this stage is depressing, no matter how you look at it.

Upon further review, I'd like to go undefeated and then beat Hawthorn in the final by 128 points.

I'll settle with just making the finals... comfortably... without praying for others to lose or demoted for taking banned substances

I think we could make top 6 or 8 if injuries affect us significantly more than others.
We don't have to play out of our skins to do so - just need to play close to our best consistently thereby winning the games against the weaker teams, winning most of those against those in our bracket and snatching one or two from the top four teams.
If we can't make top 6, we need to recognise that the era we were hoping for w our no.1s leading the way has not gone as we'd hoped and we need to think about building towards the next era.
For me, the first key leading indicator will be winning minimum of two out of the first three matches. These are all against our 'bracket', incl nemesis Ess and Richmond with a massive grudge!
If we can't win 2/3, it is probably too far to come back given the even teams around us.

this is true ...

I can dream about reducing the number on the board and sticks falling on his sword.
