This quote got my attention

"Mick's brought some great philosophies forward and he's one who gets the best out of the players so I want to stay here and see what I can learn under him."

There's a slap for the old coach.

Your right there Synners. I must admit I have watched a few the old games and you don't realise how much the game has changed.

Actually watching the 1995 GF has me thinking that was the type of game the AFL wants in the market today.

Can anyone tell me how many rules have changed since then?

Surely if a professionsal footballer nowadays is serious about improving their kicking, they could have 100 or more shots per night after normal training or earlier in the day without eating too much into their Playstation 4 or Wii gametime.

It might be hard to replicate match conditions, but most of our poor misses have been from set shots.

The sad part about kicking for goal (practice) is that professional players have been stopped from having excess shots on goal /# of kicks limited due to the influence of sports scientists & potential over working.
Perfect practice makes perfect.

Replicate game day scenarios at training.
Real people on the mark, preferably wearing opposition colours accompanied with plenty of surrounding noise and not just a clear field or stick figures and the sound of birds in the background and then practice, practice and practice some more.

Unfortunately all too often the goal-kicking just becomes a bit of a cool-down event and invariably more of the goal-kicking is of the trick variety rather than the real thing.

Spot up a target, balanced and steady run up, and look at the ball and follow through.

Yes grro...not too sure about the little skip; but at least he virtually heads straight towards goal.

So many of our players almost steer the ball thru from an angle; even when they're facing the goals front on......and on an angle the ball goes....
