Did we think we'd transmogrify into Malthouse style Grand Final/Premiership sides overnight?

Back from the game, yes had its frustrating moments, but not unhappy with the win.

Backs v solid, Jamo and Hendo in particular. Touhy and White v good today.

Jeffy, Eddie and Yazz had 21 tackles collectively, Jeffy in great form, Eddie picked up some good results, hope Yazz is ok

Lucas had lots of possies, particularly along the wings, but didn't always deliver well, ok though

Waite rusty at first, but marked well, although led mainly to the pockets which was frustrating. Brain fade disappointing.

Knockers 44 ho dominated the hit outs and did reasonably well around the ground

Hammer was fumbly early, but his second half was ok

Brock good to start but faded a little

Den was good

Ellard laid 9 tackles but didn't seem to appear in the play that much

Judd was in the thick of things but couldn't seem to break free

Murph excellent, 3g and plenty of good touches

Scottie was ok, apart from one poor disposal which resulted in a goal.

Probably missed one or two others

Frustrated that we seemed to look backwards too much and not forwards, Dees come hard in the second, perhaps could have been a bigger margin, but can't complain

Umpires were on another planet

Move on to next week!

We are in the eight, relegating tigers to usual spot!!

For 3 quarters we were a 5 goal better side than a depleted version of a team that's been smacked by 15+ goals on a regular basis. I think we can expect something a bit better than that, especially if we have aspirations to take on the better teams in the comp. A late flurry made things look better in the end, but really, if we're to be happy with an effort like today's effort we should be happy to be hovering around the middle of the ladder.

That said, there were quite a few things to be happy about also. But overall, while I'm happy for the win, there are A LOT of things to be improved on.

Could be a hamstring strain.

Clearances still need a bit of work. To only just edge the worst clearance team in the comp despite Warnocks dominance was a bit disappointing.

We played the same style against Collingwood, Geelong, Eagles and Adelaide. It's called learning a new game plan and working as a group with 22 contributors.

4pts in the bag, no major injuries, move on to the next challenge.

And apparently we are rated #1 for defence in the last 3 games.

(Thanks Anga from CSC)

If only we were half as good defensively for first 3 games, we might be 6-0

Hmmm ... In general, not that happy with the performance. We were hammered early in the game by a Melbourne midfield (yes Melbourne midfield) around the stoppages and at the clearances. Having a much greater depth of talent, we should have creamed them ... just like Essendon* did ... just like West Coast did ... and to a lesser extent Port did.

I was very pleased with the return of Waite ... excellent first up effort. If we have any chance this year ... we are gunna need him bad.

I guess Carrots and Gibbbs will make a difference when they return.

Can't be too disappointed with a 10 goal win. It looked like we weren't intense enough to win by more and I actually don't mind that, as long as we win by plenty and get through reasonably unscathed.

Some notes:
* Waite played well except for his wayward kicking, but overall happy with his output for his first game.
* Thought Henderson's game was outstanding in the backline.
* Curnow had a nice possession gathering game and he does have a bit of pace.
* McLean was really good once again around the stoppages.
* The mosquito fleet were really good again
* Judd had a fairly quiet game but had some nice touches

I could go on and on, but now time to focus on getting the W against a St Kilda side that generally has the wood on us for the best part of the last 10 years. I would love to give them a hiding.

Went out and had a look at the game today. Melbourne skills were fairly ordinary but you could not question their endeavour. They had a real go. I think Neeld's plan was to limit the damage and this seemed to work reasonably well. We did what we had to when we had to. No real standout players, Murph was good as was Jeffy and Eddie. Hendo very solid in defence and you feel reasured with ball in his hands. Knockers was good even though his opposition wasn't great. Lucas put his body in a bit more and is growing in confidence. Liked Touhy's game. Goes straight at it. The old timer Scotty did his stuff. Had a good look at Hammer today. He has a lot of trouble judging the ball flight and actually gets pushed under the ball often, sometimes unfairly. I know a forward should always play in front but I think he could be handful coming from behind sometimes. Now keep it clean please.

Happy for the win and even team performance etc., but very uninspiring to watch. No wonder Melbourne supporters don't show up if they have to watch that quality of football and see their side lose as well....

We WON!!!! By 10 goals..NICE!!!!

Carlton has a 10 goal win has a certain ring about it.
Resonates with me.

Waite...glad he's back. Hot footballer. Still youthful. Can see a few years in him. Brain fades sad.

Backline: Won the battle

Hendo BOG and Jammo not far off and they are the AA KPB's atm.
Was worried we'd lost Jammo last week.
Seriously Jammo of old is really back. His body must be intact atm. Great mark.
White blew me away in the first half. Best ever effort. Good spring, timing, speed, strength.
Tuohy is back in business with 3 good games in a row.
Walker is the speed out of there. Best No2 pick ever.

Forwardline: 3 Amigos and Waite kick winning score.

What else do you say about the forward heroes. Too hot to handle. Speed.
Armfield playing defensive forward also adds ridiculous white hot speed in the forwardline.
Seriously gave up on Hammer after backing him all these years.
Gave us nothing really in the first half, then his 2nd half showed what he is capable of.
Has lost his kicking. Was better when he started in 2007-8 as a kid.

Midfield: Warnock 44 HO's Dominant ruck. Plenty of supply

Warnock advantage didnt really show in the stoppages FMPOV
but with the numbers he had he was always going to have some success.
He offers supply Kreuzer could only dream of.
Great Captains efffort. Onya Murph 3 goals. Robbo created a contest and great linkman. Tough.
Judd got a few clearances but looked weak or played within himself.
He Doesn't look right, but he did seem to move freely.
Missed Carrazzo and Gibbs' class.
Ellard tried hard against Jones but lost the battle imo.
Brock was Ok too

Simmo not bad too. He's lost a yard, but knows how to make things happen.
He'll get better I reckon, unless he loses more pace.

I don't think Waite will get suspended for the meat head connection.
Depends on his carry points. I'm sure he'd have some.

Kreuzer, Gibbs, Carrazzo to come in.

perhaps related to Judds obvious decline in dominance. Not the same stoppage king he used to be. haven't seen his stats for this game, but suspect his dominance in congestion in 2013 isn't what it used to be.

I haven't seen the stats, but remember hearing the commentators saying in the last quarter that Judd had quite low possessions for him but still had more clearances than any one else on the ground.

Ellard did a great job on Nathan Jones, as did White on Howe.

Tough week at selection coming up, especially with Hampson putting in a decent effort after HT.

Don't think so. Judds down a bit over a clearance a game from last year but that's only part of it. Last year we had 3 blokes in the top 20 for clearances per game and 5 in the top 50. So far this year Judd's the only one in the top 50.
