Good points Shag.

We've bemoaned our apparently weak player development ad nauseum.

In terms of size, skills set, and need MCarthy is the one I'd like to see given a go. Can't throw newbies to the wolves, so we would need to have a consolidated senior core down back to support him, which means IMO that Jamo, Hendo and Laidler need to be cemented in.

But more importantly, WTF are you doing going to watch 3 out of 4 Essendon* games? How do you stand it? Does your mate reciprocate and come to Carlton games? Interesting arrangement!

Haha yes he returns the favour, so its not too bad! If the days dont line up in our favour (or intestate games) we usually have a few beers infront of the tellie. I enjoy watching most games of footy, so its interesting enough when your mate is a pretty passionate supporter too.. (even if it is for @#$%&! Essendon*).

Yeah, in our household he's called Jake the Ladder

Cloke was quite embarrasing Anzac day. He could have made Carlisle look like the imposter he is but instead Cloke looked like a bigger imposter. Painful to watch.

We have a number of players currently in career best form IMO

Garlett
Yarran
Mclean
Walker
Henderson
Jamison
Armfield

Arguably Lucas & Touhy aswell.

Certainly getting a good run with the media at the moment is old Stepladder.

I agree. It's one of the real pluses under MM from my perspective.

That plus having someone who can alter the strategies from game to game. Also someone who knows how to put games into younger players. Also someone who actually knows how to handle the media and present the club in a strong light.

Totally agree.

Gibbs has been better at working both ways.

I think Bootsma has improved and also gained some more experience. Bell is learning to be a better player and I was impressed with his improvement on the weekend. Curnow as a tagger may be a winner?

Menzel's getting close. If Graham didn't get injured I have no doubt he would be in our 22, Ellard & ROK as well. Kruezer was playing his best footy before injured and Warnock will no doubt be playing his best footy if he stays fit.

White is playing his most consistent footy.

We are improving and a lot better to come. We aren't far away.

PS. Just need some talls to stand up. :yikes:

The last two weeks he's nullified our opponents best outside runner. Versus West Coast it was Andrew Gaff who is just a running machine. And last week it was Rory Sloane who can get his hands dirty underneath as well, but hurts you most with his run and carry. He has a defined role and until he gets carved up by a quality opponent - he's got a spot in the firsts.

This isn't a new development. Ed played his best game for the Club against the Scum last year when he blanketed Stanton.

It will be interesting to see how many taggers Mick wants to employ. At the Filth, they had none. Against Adelaide on the weekend, we had Carrazzo on Thompson, Curnow on Sloane, Army on Danger and Brock playing a defensive forward role on Riley.

Curnow has many qualities, but he really needs to improve his ball use.

I thought Sloane was their best player on Saturday

Far from it. Blondes must stand out to you Stamos! He was held to less than 20 touches for the first time this year and didn't trouble the scorers. Curnow won that battle hands down.

Although, best for Adelaide on Saturday isn't a massive achievement (although stats and Coache's votes say it was Douglas).
I thought Sloane was instrumental in their comeback in the second half.

I'm also not doubting Curnow's ability to tag, but he needs to improve his ball use.

I don't think you'll see that in a hurry.

The real disappointment has been Marc Murphy. His deficiencies (I call it laziness) has been put out there for all to see, but it was scary to watch first hand on Saturday.

I will have to watch it for myself next time. Last saturday i thought i would watch Dangerfield, Thompson and Sloan. All were super lazy. Sloan not so much as the other two but the other two were terribly lazy. Everyone could see where they were getting done but they didn't lift a gear defensively and just watched it happen.
I was impressed by Murphy's tackling so that may have distracted me from watching his running.Thought he had an ok game.
It is a tough game these days with stoppages down meaning defensive structures dont get set up as often. Half a second slip of the mind and you can be exposed badly. Good for fans who like high scores.

You can both be right.... in bits. Sloane's drive through packs is something to behold, just gets it and charges forward (ala Bell) but Curnow was just behind him. Some OK clearances but under pressure.

True, we wouldn't want any of that, one Andrew Collins is enough.
