Taking the captaincy off a 29 year old and giving it to another 29 year old?
A bit of a pointless exercise.

from the leadership group whom you would have to think the next captain will come from

Duigan 28y 4m
Waite 29y 11m
Simpson 28y 8m
Carrorts 29y
Murph 25y 5m

going by your theory Murphs got the job

There's 29 and there's 29.

Judd's career has been played under a fair bit more scrutiny than Carazzo's.

I think they'll give it to Murphy but I can see the appeal of Carazzo. He's one of the most level headed blokes at the club and always impresses when speaking to the media. When Judd speaks it always appears he'd rather be somewhere else. I don't think he's giving up the captaincy for age reasons.

In the end I'm not too fussed either way. The position's a bit over rated these days when there's nearly a coach for each player. Any successful club will have half a dozen players who could have been a great captain but behave like they are regardless of titles.

Yup, there's Kevin Bartlett and there's Heath Scotland.

I actually never considered age too much when deciding on Carrazzo.
Interesting viewpoint to consider though BV.

I have no problem with a 29yo having the job.
I have no problem with Judd being captain at 29.
He chose to stand down as captain ...by name.
So we have to find a replacement.

Long term or short term isn't the question.
Getting the right one for the right time is imo.

We have no 19yo Wayne Carey who commanded captaincy.
Those times are gone...20 years ago.

I believe Mark Murphy is worthy as a candidate for captaincy.
He's 25.

The yet to explode onto the footy scene Gibbs is a year younger and doubt he is a candidate from what I've heard.

If Carrots retires as captain in lets say 2 years at 31 and Murphy is the next in line at 27yo, would there be anything wrong with that?

I think Carrots handles himself better in the media if that's a KPI, but if Murphy is selected, he'd be selected to grow in that role.

Like you said, there's so many coaches plus there's leaders on every line or as a group the captains role is spread amongst the group.

Murphy long term. Carrots short term.

All those mentioned as candidates are worthy of (c) after their name on the team sheet. So, not fussed who gets it.

I noticed in the online video of the team photo shoot session yesterday, Murphy and Carrazzo were sitting either side of Malthouse in the team shot.
Murphy on Malthouse's right, I think. Read into that what you will.

(Personally, I'm in the "I'd like it to be Carrazzo, but will be very happy with Murphy as well" camp.)

I have no problem with Carrots getting the job either. In fact, I think he'll make a good captain.
I do however think Judd would have remained in the job if he received some support and encouragement to do so. Unless Judd was a poor captain, I would have kept the current structure and groomed a younger bloke to take the job in a year or so.

It's not so much that Judd was a poor captain, it's more that if the Visy money isn't forthcoming any more, then why should I do all that extra work, what with having a kid now, and all.

(Just sayin'....)

I think that that's a pretty insulting suggestion towards Judd. He is an absolute professional and I doubt his efforts would waver at any point in a game, or on the track, or in life. (Unless the contract is cancelled he'll still get his money but someone else will have to suffer).

I do however see his captaincy as a little like that of Craig Bradley. Phenomenal athlete, great footballer, but is he the front person to focus everyone's efforts. I thought Bradley in the 99GF looked down & out too early - we needed some ra-ra, some empassioned plea, something out of the ordinary. In work it's not the smartest person who is the best leader; in football it's not your best player who is the best captain. I think we can do better than Chris Judd and I think Carrazzo would be perfect. Hard, tough, passionate and very "Carlton".

Murphy I'm not sure about - doesn't come across (to me) as particularly engaging and obviously there is a lot more to it than that. I also think in the last bit of 2011 and in to 2012 Murphy started to get the #1 tagger more often than not and I'd like to leave him to deal with that before he has to deal with anything else.

Carrots and Simmo are the two you think would relish the captaincy.
