That may explain the dearth of ex-Carlton players who have gone on to senior coaching ranks.

We were saying that at the end of last year though WA. There’ll always be injuries. To me it’s about how you develop & set up the entire squad to be able to cover them as best they can.

Easier said than done though.

One thing I've noticed is that our best year is always "next" year. Instead of being a gun club, we've become a gunna club. Sad really.

Can anyone else see that Ratt's fotunes as a coach co insided with our injury list.

I think there is far to much talk about the coach (From any club). If you don't have the cattle you don't get the points.....

All of a sudden we are looking sharp again, well flower me, Murphy, Waite, Carrots, Walker all back in the same team. I'm not sure it's a sharp improvement in Ratt's coaching. And I am a Ratt's fan.

You watch next year when we finally put our best line up out there for an extended period. We'll be as good as anyone. Remember we are still playing without our three best backmen.

Who ever is coaching us when that happens will be seen as a super coach, but in reality we'll just have all our talent on the park.

Yeah, I agree with that. I dont doubt Rattens match day coaching. Its the rest of the package I'm disappointed with.
Not his fault though. He just has glaring deficiencies in some areas that are important IMO.

And he didn't coach, Hawthorn? What about Fitzroy? Paul Roos played under him.

I think you raise a very interesting point. If you compare Roos to Ratten, you see two different beasts: one you'd call a worldly guy who probably sees football within a broader context, and the other guy you'd probably call a classic footyhead.

So in a way it doesn't surprise me that Ratten would think deeper about the game than Roos would. But perhaps that ability to have a broader outlook allows Roos to have a broader influence on the club as a whole, and perhaps that is now what the senior coaching role is really all about.

I think that's true for most clubs. Every story preseason is about how any team is going to be better.

CK mentioned there are always injuries which is of course true but you'd have to say we've had an ordinary run this year....

Thinking and execution / man management are two very different areas. Good in one doesn't necessarily mean good across both.

The knockers from the MM thread still come to a praise thread lol

Well done Ratts. You have the backing of Robert Walls and David Parkin, who know what they are talking about!!!

Hopefully North smash Freo and we can win our last 2

Go blues

When you look at the other clubs collecting early picks and building a list through the mid to late 2000's like Melbourne, Richmond, North and Essendon* you get an idea of how hard it has been to even make the finals. I am sure those clubs will be happy to win "just" one final. Ratts and the Blues so far have blown those clubs away with 3 (hopefully 4) consecutive finals appearances.

Paul Roos’s very methodical and unemotional criteria of how the board should assess Ratten’s position for next year.
Some key points were:
How far up the ladder should we have finished with our best 22?
To assess the team’s performance based on personnel at the coach’s disposal?
If we win the last two games we finish with 13 wins, 1 less than last year.
The board should look at the last five years at a whole.
Factors would be player development, management style, player leadership and the most important is the team better off than when he took over.
The final decision is can he take then to a premiership?
In his view the board will not replace Ratten if it makes a rational assessment on his tenure at the club.

I think we'll still make the top four - inc finals though. We will win the next four games and lose in the preliminary final. That's my blueman statement.

Yeah well. I wouldn't be surprised if Ratten hands the keys back at the post game presser.

We may need to heavily trade too
