Caz,

The point is not what the board has done. It is what it hasn't done because it is a cumbersome do nothing collective.

Financially, it is all Visy and Matheson and you can not rely on them forever. There has never been any pressure on the football department until now...which is too late. George Harris or Jack Elliot would have been scouring the corridors

There is no dynamism or pushing of the boundaries. What is the big idea to drive the club forward? eg. playing games in New Zealand, interstate club games at Visy Park, A move away from Etihad. Remember we once tried a soccer club. We failed but we were willing to throw a punch. We are never first at anything anymore...... I lost faith when we went to an accounting company for a vision paper. Which is tantamount to saying we have no ideas but will outsource to an organisation that pretends to have a few.

What about our internet strategy?
Maybe there is a dollar in an upmarket social club?
How long is it before you don't watch games in TV but move to pay per view on the internet?
How are we integrating ourselves with African community in Carlton or the Fitzroy Reds (natural carlton supporters)
I want vision. I want to embrace the new. I want tomorrow today.

MJ best post I have read
This board is a dinasour
It relys too much with handouts from Bruce and Jeanie
We have been left behind
Interesting you say NZ

Why not at least look at it

Because nothing is more certain than a club playing some home games there
WHy 3hours away
WHy 4 million live there around two thirds live in the North Island
A sports loving country
How about setting the wheels in motion
Look at the possibility of doing something outside the box

This board is littered with cobwebs. No innovative thinking at all.

Cazz IT needs an injection of new faces to inject life back into it

With the internet and global access its inevitable the game will be played internationally for 4 points at some stage.
Do our 13 individuals realise this
Do you think Jeanie has any idea what a computer looks like.

Good thread

My simplistic view is that the boards primary role is to govern the football club.
The football club should do everything and the board should ensure the right decisions and outcomes are being met. If not - they should be asking the hard questions, be really worried and ensure things get sorted.
So much of a football club is football, so i find it strange that there is not a lot of people on our board that actually know football well enough to govern the footy dept effectively. So if there is a subcommitte that i would be critical of, it is the football one. I think they should be accountable for a lot of what we are doing poorly at.

Let's play for points on the Rainbow Warrior. Get a traditional rivalry going with Japan...

How about just here in Melbourne.....????

I have an idea...

First we get our disenfranchised members back...

Then we harvest some around Melbourne

Then around Australia...

............................................. then we take on the world...
Cos i reckon.. the world needs AFL and needs Carlton....
Its only a matter of time before AFL is the number 1 sport in the world...

and we have more gaelic footballers.. basketballers..hurlers . rugby players.. and even soccer players and gridiron players playing this very difficult game at a n elte level.

Why try making it in poofy soccer.. when if you have any hand eye co ordination with any kind of ball...you can just walk i nto our sport and excel!!!

Everyones doing it.....
