Gutted with that pea-hearted effort.

Stupid football, cowardly football, lazy football.

We were worked out by the Bombers, and now its open season on our forwards and midfields. Get in their face and they shit themselves.

Oh, and I would dearly love to smash Stephen Milne in the face with a cricket bat.

They don't have to play well against us or be right under our noses for us to miss 'em.

Twice we have dropped Thonton, both times we lost. Play him!

The questions is.... how will we respond?

About the same as how we responded from the shit we dished up last week

We have some very poor very slow decision makers the side has a number of try hards in it
Curnow Armfield Duigan Touhy Robbo Bower Joseph Russell make dumb decisions with ball in hand

It is going to be painful watching the rest of this year

Also our clearance domination that was there last year is not there this year
Maybe Warnock is the answer

Their backline was depleted with the lack of Fisher, whom I rate highly. They were supposed to leak but nobody told them.
Their midfielders aren't as good as ours. We have Murphy, Judd, Simmo and co and were going to easily win the clearances. Nobody told the St Kilda mids they were supposed to lose the clearances so they won them.
Their ruck division is weak because they have two ruckmen out. We were going to easily win the hitouts but somebody forgot to tell Kosi and Stanley. We lost the rucking contests.
Our small forwards are trhe best in the comp. Somebody forgot to tell Milne, Saad and the other skinny kid whi got about three. Eddie got two. Theirs got nine between them
Reiwoldt is in good form. He showed it but couldn't kick straight. What's new?

Everybody thought St KIlda would try and shut the game down and turn it into a low scoring game but somebody forgot to tell St Kilda, who out tackled us, out spread us, out ran us and then outmarked us and finally outscored us in a high scoring game.

This is a reality check for the MC. Another one after the Essendon* debacle, which we were also going to win easily.

At half time, I suggested Murphy forward and Walker/Gibbs or Betts to the midfield. It did happen in the last quarter. Too late. Jamo to the forward line? Sorry. Thornton has proved to be our most consistent inside 50 player this year and IMO MUST get a run. At whose expense? Dunno.

Let's make some tough decisions and maybe drop Garlett. He is a great player but on current form needs to go back and earn his place. Put Gibbs or Yarran at HF or Walker. He and Waite tangled up on several occasions tonight.

Rucks. This is tough. Warnock is tall and gets hitouts, occasionally to our advantage. Kreuzer is a bullock but his tapwork isn't as good as Hampsons. Hampson takes marks inside 50 when he is put there. More than Kreuzer. Kreuzer will never be dropped. So does that mean Hampson gets sacrificed so Warnock can get a few hitouyts but do nothing around the ground? I know this has been covered in various threads but the thing we need most in this team is a marking forward to complement Waite, who on tonight's form wouldn't get a game at most clubs. We HAVE to play Warnock (or somebody else) as a tall forward. Waite is the only tall forward in the team with 5 crumbers, two of whom an mark the footy in a contest. (Betts and Walker). WEe are screaming out for another marking forward. Thornton is another option.

Next week we have Adelaide, who are red hot and we have a short break. If we lose that, we frop back into the pack and the pack has some well-credentialled clubs in it. We seriously missed a great chance to go top of the table tonight but the players didn't want to and the coach was too slow to react when they got the breaks on us.

Laidler is a big out for us, as is Carazzo and Yarran but every team has injuries and the good ones have to win with the team they can put on the park. Including us.

Essendon* exposed us 4 weeks ago with pressure and extra numbers at the stoppages

We've lost the clearances 4 weeks straight now

Coaches and MC have failed to address this weakness

That's what pissed me off most of all tonight

The game was lost in the second quarter. St Kilda like so many teams in recent weeks cracked in and won the hard ball.

Yep.

Putting an unhealthy positive spin on things we were never too far off the mark. But you're dead right, we lost it in the 2nd. While we did gain the momentum a few times in the 2nd half we couldn't sustain it for long enough.

Not acceptable.

I know it's old skool, but I reckon we need a 60s/70s tyrant to come in a give us a @#$%&! good spray.

Gee, this has brought a few posters out of the woodwork.

Our performance mirrored that of the Seven commentators.

No idea :screwy:

If this is the outcome of training loads (not being a smart arse, just to be clear), then ease up with the training.

It's a good thing we're only aiming for top four.

Still too flakey. We are at our worse against middle ladder teams who hunt us and dont let us play the way we want to play. Bottom of ladder teams are just crap and we do ok against the better teams that have their own game style and dont make major changes for anybody.

Teams know how we want to move the ball forward. Eade was talking about on the telly. Teams are all over our stoppage and ball movement. They want to cut it at the source so they congest the stoppages. Strategic guy RIchardson needs to come up with a way to beat this our we are screwed. We will have our ups and downs this year like last year and the year before that.

On top of being mentally flakey we are also sadly out of touch. The amount of times we looked to have won the ball and then coughed it up while teammates are on the attacking spread was terrible. Costly too.
Our backline was not balanced and the coaches need to take the blame there. We needed two talls and the rest zippy midfielder defender types. Not Duigan, Henda, Jamo and Bower. Far too lumbery and the reason their zippy forwards killed us and the reason we had no rebound at all.

Big week next week. Lots of soul searching midweek and we deserve the treatment the Hawks got after the swans game from the media.

PS Sorry for boring you all last week about training loads. My theory was way off the mark. There is something to it but i clearly got it wrong when thinking it relates to CFC over the last few weeks.

Some attention paid to Murphy and he doesn't respond.

Some attention paid to Simpson and he doesn't respond.

Great players might have poor first halves like Murphy but they work their arses off to get into the game. He didn't.

The head coach makes a difference.

Essendon*.

Hird.

Essendon* have a list that is not as talented as ours, yet they would be amongst the favourites for the Grand Final at the moment.

Make no mistake, I love Ratts and the contribution he's made to our club, but I have serious misgivings about his coaching ability.

This is a game we should have won, and comfortably. Even St Kilda at their best are a team we should've spanked.

We have the cattle, so that's not an excuse.

Tonight we were outclassed, and that's ridiculous.

If someone had suggested that we would be 5-2 after the first six rounds, given the opposition we've faced, as a prospective premiership contender, I would've said it's not acceptable.

Given the quality of players we have, it's a damning indictment on the coach and his staff that we lost tonight.
