B: Touhy Jamison Watson
HB: Yarran Henderson Duigan
C: Scotland McLean Simpson
HF: Garlett Thornton Waite
F: Betts Hampson Walker
Foll: Kruezer Judd Murphy
Int: Gibbs Lucas Robinson Carrazzo

Other Real possibilities: Davies Collins Joseph Ellard Curnow Russell

The issue I have is whilst most have shown a bit no one new has really stood out and pushed hard for a spot.

Fair enough Psych.

I think Waite is being managed to be ready for round 1.
If not, they left their program for his return a bit late.
I think he's running well, but he needs to turn on the gas in the next week.

I don't think TBird has done much more than Waite at CHF.

Have huge doubts on Watson being picked ahead of Bower.

Russell and Joseph haven't looked right for mine.

My team would be

B: Touhy Jamison Thornton
HB: Yarran Henderson Duigan
C: Scotland McLean Simpson
HF: Garlett Waite Gibbs
F: Betts Hampson Walker
Foll: Kruezer Judd Murphy
Int: Casboult Lucas Robinson Carrazzo

very much depends on whether walker & robinson are ready though (collins & curnow/ellard to come in)

Quite an interesting read.

Despite the loss of Laidler no room for Bower in most sides. Short memories, I think. It was only 2 season ago a friend reminded me that Bower was second in the competition in intercepts. As for Thornton , may he never step into our defensive zone again. Very selfish player.

About the same but Curnow instead of Casboult

If we play all of Walker, Robinson, Jamison, Duigan & Waite against Richmond we will lose round 1. We should play players on form and merit not on what they did last year.

Collins and Touhy are two players who have cemented a spot for round 1 based on their pre season form to date.

Walker & Jamison are 50/50, but the rest have enough miles in the legs if they play this weekend and perhaps a half in the VFL the following week.

Scratch Jamo from round 1 - He wont play this week and even if he plays half a game with the Northern Blues the following week it is only 5 days to round 1

Won't be playing

There has to be a bit of concern over the backline structure for Round 1...

Let's assume Jamison misses. Laidler, too. Duigan is underdone.

We then rely on Henderson, Bower and Thornton would have to move down back.

There'd have to be a few concerns with that structure... but here's my current 22...

Duigan, Henderson, Bower
Yarran, Thornton, Scotland
Simpson, Gibbs, Ellard
Garlett, Waite, Carrazzo,
Betts, Hampson, Walker
Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy

Int: Robinson, Joseph, Lucas, Touhy

Touhy would be the natural choice as Sub.

I'd rather have Joseph ready to go as a sub to relieve Duigan, and have Yarran & Tuohy taking turns charging up the field.

Hi BB, I am more talking about the guys on the fringe that need to push for a spot. IMO we have "potential" depth but not real depth yet.

Although pre season doesn't generally worry me the form and fitness of some players is a bit of a concern.
My guess is that Jamo and Warnock will not play Rd 1 and Duigan, Robinson, Rowe and Walker are underdone at best. Laidler is also a loss.
Surely Bower, Armfield and Russell can't be selected on pre season form.

This week against the Roos is huge. Some guys need to show something and we also need some cohesion on the field. We haven't yet played close to our top side.

Our Round One side could easily look like:

Touhy Thornton Watson
Yarran Henderson Duigan
Scotland Curnow Simpson
Garlett Waite Robinson
Betts Casboult Gibbs
Kruezer Judd Murphy
Lucas AJ Carrazzo Collins

The other name missing is Jordan Russell... is he dead and buried or is there an opportunity for him in Round 1?

B: Laidler, Jamison, Tuohy
HB: Yarran, Henderson, Duigan
C: Simpson, Robinson, Scotland
HF: Garlett, Waite, Gibbs
F: Betts, Hampson, Walker
Foll: Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy

I/C: Thornton, Carrazzo
from Joseph, Curnow, McLean, Armfield, Collins, Russell, Ellard, LUCAS

Given that the red are unlikely to/won't play, it becomes about structures on who to bring in.

I'd think Collins has done enough to come in for Walker.
I like Joseph against the Tiges to play on Nahas or Martin.

You would assume Thornton goes back to take on of Laidler/Jamo's positions, which leaves us needing 1 more key or medium back. Possibilities are Bower (not in great form, club wants him further up the ground), Watson (not currently up to it), or we go with the shorter Russell (looks out of form).
I'd probably take the risk with Bower.

That means last 2 spots to come from : LUCAS, Curnow, McLean, Ellard, Russell, Armfield.

EDIT: Oops, forgot Lucas

wouldn't mind krezuer spending some time in the back half this year to man up opposing ruckmen going forward
and the 200cm forwards, it seems to be almost every team tries to strech a defense this way.
it may be the best way to play all three of our ruckmen in the same side, and kreuzer could expose them when the ball hits the ground and also with his aerobic capacity.
do we really want to see a bower/laidler matched up against a minson mcintosh cox etc for any more than a few minutes,
its worth a try and would only need to be for 25% to 30% gametime so we could still use him ruck/forward
after all he is the prototype of the modern utility.
