There's a chance that Crosby may never come back. There were three suicides in the NHL this past off-season and many believe it was due to the unbearable symptoms of the head trauma they received while playing in the NHL. Teams are treating those injuries cautiously and with good reason. The Detroit Lions sat Jahvid Best out for nearly all of the NFL season for the same reason. Thankfully for Jamo that's whole different kettle of fish to what he is dealing with! Hopefully, the club is not being mischievous and we can hold them to their word about the amount of time he is out.

Agreed with all that except to say that NHL has moved from specifying injury to stating 'lower body injury'...'will be assessed in coming days', and that's accepted. Which begs the question...do we really need to know Michael Jamison has stress fractures in his back? Think I'd probably prefer not to know.

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of this type of thing happening during the off season.

I personally don't care if the club gives us an accurate description of a players injury or the length of time they are out for.

Not sure of the benefits in not telling the truth though.

These injuries seem to hit all our talls, at the same time. Bizarre....

Just looked at that injury list - Simon White injured again??!

Also, what is a stress reaction?

Hawthorn played the most of the season with half their list out and still managed to make it further than us. We should have enough depth in the list now to cover a bloke like Jamison
we have a plethora of backman- Duigan, Laidler, Bower, Hendo, Watson, Thornton, Scotland Yarren, Gibbs , Russell , Joseph , Touhy, White and the new bloke Bootsma if we can't cover a bloke for 5-6 games we are not as good as we think we are
Most clubs have 5 to 6 players on their injury list each week

Jamison was on the park in 5 of our 8 losses last year

That's not exactly correct.
Freo and Essendon* were hit hard numbers wise, but on the strength of quality talent alone, we may have just been hit harder than any other team.

Waite, Jamison, Henderson, Kreuzer, Russell, Lucas, Curnow etc. all played less than half the year, fully fit.
I have all those guys in my best 22.

a lower back stress reaction isn't all that uncommon, and it's usual that a minimum 4 weeks of complete rest is required to allow the bone to heal. However, during the last week of recovery low-stress cardiovascular work can take place - ie. running in a pool.

If properly treated - and depending how the body reacts, once healed there is no link to a recurrence rate of the injury.

Jamison may fighting an uphill battle to be completely fit for Round 1 especially given no match practice - and a lot will depend on the micromanagement of the injury let's hope that it's a good healing process. With 7 weeks until the season proper it isn't beyond the scope of things for Jamison to line up against the Tigers... but if he does I'd expect him to miss the trip to Brisbane for some additional physio and in particular because of the importance of the Round 3 game.

This of course all goes out the window if he has a relapse or that his body does not heal as intended.

5 weeks is cited because it's the average timeframe so it's fair to say that. They will have a much clearer picture in 2 weeks when the healing process should be well under way.

If he is doing pool work by the end of the fourth week, take that as a sign he's well on track.

How do I know this? I've had the same injury. I was okay to resume sport in about the 6th week and I did not manage the injury well - I still kicked a footy and did all manner of stupid things that could have aggravated it more. By the 8th week I didn't even feel it any more.

Good luck to him in his recovery.

Frankly I'm so used to this shit happening (and the inevitable 4-6 becoming 6-8 becoming 10-15 etc) that I'm really numb to it now, and just accept it as part of the Carlton experience these days.

I still don't understand why people get so up in arms about reporting of injuries.

Langdon announced this on 6pr just after 6pm and I nearly drove off the road. His 'confidant' said he has stress fractures in the back and will be out for a lengthy stint. Let's hope it is not true. Huge blow if it is.

Thanks god for the hbfs :smoking:

Sydney Blue like most clubs if you lose one of the most important players and most important KP in your side you do struggle to cover them.
Having said that we did do without Bower for all of last year, unlike some I think he was a great lose to the structure and worth to our side.

It's that knee jerk reaction to things they can't control. That feeling of hopelessness brings on the desire to react in an aggressive manner and blame others. 2 weeks, 4, weeks, 3 months. It is what it is and the player will be back in the future.

Gilly probably has a technical name for the angst displayed and the blame directed.

It is much easier to say to yourself....'Injuries are inevitable in our sport and we move on' Someone else just has to step up and fill the role. Who knows it might be the start of another brilliant career for the one given a chance.

Regards Cazzesman
