Haven't posted for a long time Freddy mainly because of my disappointment with the attitude towards fellow supporters from a couple of posters who work with the club. Whatever this new attitude from club to supporters is, it stinks.

I read your post and it has moved me and wanted to say thank you for the work you've done for our club over the last 2 decades.

I have also felt the pain from this disease recently. Family are most important in these times. Just reading some of the posts I'm sure you feel the apppreciation of your efforts, your situation and the well wishes from your TC family.

Take care and stay positive. You will beat this bugger of a disease. I can feel your determination.

Don't let some of the new crew at Carlton get you down. It is a wonderful club with many wonderful people attached to it and a wonderful history, which you are a big part of and should be proud. Some spoil it for the others, but it will always be our club, and again thank you for your efforts to make it so wonderful. All the best, stay strong and best wishes to Mrs Freddy.

Good on you Bluegirl.

Again, thanks for all the support.

Just a couple of things.

When I first started honorary officials were shown appreciation. We were invited to the Guernsey Presentation, the Best & Fairest night and received a Social Club Membership gratis. Over the years all these privileges have been removed although we could buy tickets to the functions at a reduced cost (10% discount).

Honorary officials qualify for life membership after 15 years of service. It is not automatic, you have to be nominated (I don’t know by whom).

As yet, I have not heard from one person associated with the club.

My wife’s op is tomorrow.

Good luck to you and the wife mate.
You've been a good friend of he club but also to all of us here at TC. Letting us know in advance details on practice games etc.
Hopefully we'll chat again and you'll have some good news to share.

Freddy, this is for you.

Thankyou for contacting the Carlton Football Club.

A letter of appreciation is sent to all such volunteers who are no longer required at the Club. On this occasion the phone call was confirming the situation before we forwarded the letter, however the letter will be sent to him this week thanking him for his years of service to the Club.

We thankyou for you for your kind thoughts on his behalf.

This is the email I received back from the club Doc.

Really sorry to read this Freddy47.

You have my thoughts and best wishes as your wife starts to tackle the big C.

And a big thank you from me, fwiw, for the time you have spent with the club. I'm certainly grateful.

Best of luck mate.

its the clubs responsibility to embrace its brethren.
Freddy is not the only servant of the club left feeling unappreciated in recent weeks.

there is a bubble mentality at the club.

Well Freddy, times really have changed. In 2012, a 10% discount to the clubs season launch would still set you back $675! And for that it seems you only get some gourmet canapés, a few glasses of wine and sex with Barry Humphries. Yep. Times have changed.

Reading through the posts though, I don't think I would lose my emotional connection to the club, as that connection lives underneath the personnel that move through the offices.

Good luck, and all strength for the coming months Freddy47.

I get a certificate of appreciation for being a member and not doing much else each year.

21 years full time service pro bono to a football club is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year at work, I look at my volunteer leave and try to find windows of opportunity to use it at the club. Every year I find myself wanting, as the time just isn't there.

How you fit those 21 years in, is something that deserves to be appreciated, admired and put on a pedastal for those like us who should do more for the club, but for whatever reason don't.

Instead, without any disrespect intended to Freddy here. I fully expect a badly laser printed certificate that involves a misspelt surname congratulating him on his one year of junior membership, with an offer of 5% off at the Carlton Shop.

And whilst it is what it is, a slap in the face to someone who clearly deserves more. To me, I see it as an opportunity to find better ways to spend that volunteer leave when I get an opportunity.

As much as I hate Eddie McGuire's guts he would turn this situation into a positive, by making it a media event, selling tickets for it, getting a new sponsor on board to provide the club with something of value to present to Freddy and his wife, as well as make a heartfelt apology on "The Footy Show".

All the best to you Freddy and wishing your wife a full recovery - you guy's both have a date come Saturday 29th of September.
