a sincere interest in the guy when everybody knew he was not well.
and some sincere representation to the guys funeral.
a couple of guys sitting at the back and then hurrying away. low level guys mind you is not respect.

does it have to be a real football contributor like Graeme Kennedy for a Shit club like St kilda to give you a real club community send off?

pathetic when you think of it

So are you saying Carlton people showed interest but it was not sincere and are you saying Carlton representatives went to the funeral but it was not sincere?

I am saying
number one no phone call by sticks or swan leading up to this.
number two a couple of mid tier guys rocking up and sitting down the back representing the club then rushing off is not respectful.

Robert Klomp and a few ex players showed them how its done. never had to pull the short straw to go.

what's wrong with swan being present?

some real representation.
he is Carlton through and through.

over decades!

maybe not a Carlton toff but c.arlton

even gave angwin a job when noone else would.

cared for all carlton people.
big and small.

Funerals are a "funny thing" (I dont mean funny ha ha funny).

I have been to quite a few over the past few years - mainly due to the fact my father passed away (its getting near 8 years now) and he had about 800 people come to his funeral - I feel an obligation to repay that respect to many of the people that came to my father's funeral.

Personally I try not to make a big thing of it - I attend the church and find a place in the church - it is usually up the back because I feel I dont want to take up a place that could be reserved for closer family or older people that actually need a seat because they are infirm etc.

I do try to make sure that I pay my condolenses and respects to the family (us Greeks do it by actually passing by the casket at the end of the service in the church and shaking hands with the family), this is an ordeal for the family can take up to 1 hour after the service has concluded.

I am not making excuses for people that sit up the back of a funeral - but perhaps the Carlton people felt a bit awkward and were not sure of the protocol in this case. But if they took the time to ask someone prior to the service they could have actually presented a wreath near the conclusion of the service. They could have liaised with the funeral director about this who would have sorted it out with the Church.

This may have actually occurred (as I was not there  ) but I am just pointing it out in case it didnt happen.

like you agro, same with my dad.
not saying they can't sit out the back.
its just the whole thing.

the club has a duty to see its community off in situations like this. its an unpleasant situation but I am pretty sure Mrs Pavlou wants to see the hours that were stolen from her and the family properly appreciated by the club.
its a mutual respect thing.

the club must know its total obligations to its soldiers.
it can't be too difficult to organise a more serious send off.
I know quite a few people with links to Chris from the club that were alarmed by the club representation in an official manner.

its just apathy and a total lack of awareness as to what's required to grow a strong sense of community and Carlton family.
it links so much of what we have been talking about on quite a few threads.
whether its freeddy or Chris or the members feeling a lack of of connection.

its about people isn't it?

I know that this falling down of awareness exists in so many areas around the club that I fear for it.
