Just ran through the fixture for next year. I reckon Pies 19-3, then us and Hawks on 17-5, then Geelong 16-6.

Prelim at a minimum.

Comment from a Mark Neeld interview in the Age today.

This is what I want from the Blues in 2012

''Watch the grand final,'' Neeld said. ''There was not a player out there you would not describe as a competitor. There is no room for non-competitors on grand final day. Contested ball is king. The ability to make quick, correct decisions under pressure over and over and over again happens on grand final day.''

Every contest, every game.

I'd be happy with that for the 2013 slogan.
Make sure you charge them like an ad agency though!

It all comes down to injuries to key players.
What if Judd does his ACL first game. Where should we finish then?
One thing the club must do is rest players during the season like Geelong did.
They were far fresher than the filth when it truly counted.

Interesting Ratts only given a 2 year deal.

Of course it's all contingent on the preseason!
We've seen it time and time again - any side that comes into round 1 will key players underdone doesn't stand a chance.
But as it stands right now, we seem to have an almost entirely fit list.
We have no key injuries that I can think of.
Guys like Bower finally seem to be getting their bodies right.
Our backline is looking tantalizing. I firmly believe Henderson and Jamison can combine to be the best two tall defenders in the league. With support from Laidler and duigan and the pure class of Yarran - wowzer!
Other lesser lights like Ellard and Joseph are pushing themselves.
The young kids look in good spirits and ready to take another step forward.
In fact the biggest question mark is probably over Judd given the way he finished the season, and the post-season op. But does anyone seriously doubt the champs ability to deliver come March?

So of course expectations will be revised as things develop.
But as of Tuesday, November 9 @ 1pm, I think our pass marks looks set on at least a solid showing in a prelim

couldnt agree more, all those players you just mentioned can only surely still get better and its looking on track. for the first time in my life im actually strangely looking forward to see a fully fit and pre-seasoned bower get his opportunity to show what so many of us have so often questioned over the last few years, and that's whether or not the kid's actually any good or not (or rather is this guy actually good enough to be in a cfc premiership winning 22 (most probably as the 3rd tall back with #23 and jamo taking up the two KPP, and bower taking the 3rd tall - considering that, if we are to win our way deep into september we'll be needing to shut down these 3 big fwds from each of collingwood/geelongs/hawthorns/wce who have ALL shown they are at their best when they have a firing 3 pronged tall forward line (every one of them being at least 6ft3!) id guess, (cloke/dawes/wood-hawkins/pods/hunt-franklin/rough/gunston-jk/cox/nicnat) (assuming the 2nd ruckman goes fwd) so ive got a wierd feeling this could be his time to put all our doubts to rest.

so that being said. Bowser, #23, Jamo + Duigs,Laids,Yazz is a truly formidable defence in anyones book, almost potentially one of CFC's greatest ever. and i also believe zack tuohy will be pushing for a spot BIGTIME, but where exactly) HFF, bit like stewie dew but way quicker, and better.

but friends, forget the hypothetical 'what if Judd does an ACL in round 1, we're all doooooomed!!!' angst, I truly believe if such a morbid shakespearian event such as this should take place next year that we could actually cover Judds absence with a minimum of fuss, any 1 of Robbo, Curnow, Gibbs, Yazz, Lucas, Ellard, or even Walks who we saw play stints on ball in 2011 and impress, are all capable of stepping up to fill a midfield role, simply giving murph his opportunity to show we can base a Top4 team midfield around him, which he is so definitely possible of doing.

sounds good doesnt it?!!

Now lets imagine a far far far different scenario:

Lets say, hypothetically, that in round 1 next year ,

not Judd,

not Murph,

not Kruze,

BUT JARRAD WAITE,

Completely tears his ACL
.!!!!!!!!!!

Now, please, calmly,

WHAT IN GODS NAME DO WE NOW!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!

Dunno about anyone else, but I'll be happy if 2012 is the first leg of a three-peat

Yep, and we can replace those three-peat posters of the Lions in the Cricketers Arms. They will be the first ones up there since the Lions ones.

For me, a pass for the club would be a top 4 finish. To be top 4 is integral to booking a spot in the grand final!

My expectation is that we will at least fight it out in a prelim match.

I reckon next year we will put on a really good show and what I would love to see is consistent attack on the footy and hard play every game. Then, regardless of the outcome of the finals, we will be in an excellent position to win a flag or two in the next 3 years when our young stars are in their prime and the rookies/untested players like Mitchell and Casboult have 20-50 games under the belt.

If we have a good lucky run with injuries we will play off in a granny next season.
Look at who we had out for big chunks of the season this year and you take these key blokes out of any team they will struggle... We done really well 2011 considering

Kruze out first 7 or 8 was it?
Jamo missed a huge patch of games
Waite same
Hammer just as he was stringing a good run of form together
Gibbs late in the season ( he plays vs wce in the final and we are in a prelim )

Grand final appearance 2012 go for it blue boys

A preliminary appearance would be a pass - and a logical progression..

But dont be surprised or upset if we disappoint and severe recriminations follow.

If that cloud rains on our parade - it will have a silver lining.

I think the years of setting "pass marks" are behind us.

From now on, we should be approaching every season with the aim of winning the flag.

+1 this

Prelim appearance is hardly a significant progression given we were so close to a Prelim last season (If not for Gibbs injury in last min of 1st final, we would have beaten WC and would have been every chance to get over Geelong for a GF appearance). We now have the talent and depth to challenge for the flag. As always, injuries hold the key but our depth should be much better this year. There is no doubt we start in a better position than last season ...

Both Waite and Kruezer will be better this year with more distance from their major injuries.
Lucas and Tuohy putting themselves in the mix - both exciting players.
Curnow and Russell fit and firing will add grunt and depth to midfield.
Another pre-season into Yarran and Garlett :smoking:
Bower stepping up and putting himself back in the mix (although I don't see a spot for him)
Potential improvement from many others including Hampson, Collins etc.
Exciting young talent like McCarthy and Mitchell starting to make their presence felt.

Plus I think Hendo at CHB is a really significant improvement to our team. Related to that is the importance of Jarrad Waite to our structure. At least we now have a mature understudy in Rowe. I hope he will not be needed.

Nothing less than a GF appearance ... and hey, while we are there, why not aspire to win it!

On reflection, I think getting through the season without seeing

Quote:
INJURY LIST
[Player 1]: Shoulder 4-6 weeks
[Player 2]: Shoulder 6-8 weeks
[Player 3]: Shoulder 3-4 weeks
[Player 4]: Shoulder Season
etc

would be a pass.

Good news my friends. Make no mistake the Blues are a force to be reckoned with. A preliminary final is a must this year, but the Blues have what it takes to lift the trophy.

2011 was no aberration, but rather a steady rise of a once mighty empire. You just need to look at the net ratio of winning vs losing margins to see that even at their worst, they can win, but overall their losses aren't death blows.

A net average of 48.7 point winning margin in 2011. That's massive. If you take out the Gold Coast smashing it remains at 43.7.
But on the other end of the scale when thing's aren't going right the damage is limited to just 18.4 points per loss.

This all boils down to hard working, hungry and determined Carlton outfit who have no reason but to improve again this year.

If they want it, they've got the capability to get it.

A grand final appearance this or next year should be on the cards. Time to step up, 17 years for the 17th flag. Why the hell not?

Flags time!!!

In 3 and a bit years we will be 20 years without a flag.

Time to stop worrying about development of anyone but rookies, pass marks and all the trivial crap some of guys talk about on here and go for the flag..

Pies could be shot with buckley as coach, they need a new gameplan after losing last year.
Cats are too old
Hawks are the only worry

Anything but a grand final is a fail.

As if!!

2010 - our aim was to make the finals
2011 - our aim was to win a final (we finished fifth)
2012 - our aim is to finish top 4 and get a home final
2013 - our aim will be make the preliminary final
2014 - our aim will be to make the grand final
2015 - our aim will be to finally win the grand final

This is the new Carlton mate, where we go forward one babystep at a time :donk:
