Those 3 roles which occupied the bulk of the 7 years are not highly relevant to his role as Football Manager. Otherwise KB would be a shoo-in.

They are all people management positions.
That's the most important part of his new role.

Actually think that's the most factually incorrect post i've ever read.

No, Its the most misunderstood post that I have ever posted.
All that the post said was that we have always looked after past captains and apart from Kouta and Big Red all the others on the list have all held positions at the club - Factually correct.

I did not ever say that we don't hire externally.

It's true - since when did being a passionate former Carlton man become a negative?

Fair enough, you want varying opinions and viewpoints to be considered in your decision-making. And you don't want sub-standard candidates being appointed because they're mates with someone.

But one glance at McKay's previous experience should dispel any doubts. 7 years at the AFL, in powerful roles such as Game Development Manager, Laws of the Game Committee, Tribunal Review Committee and Chairman of the Match Review Panel. He has clearly risen up the AFL ranks very quickly (or was it because he is mates with someone there? or because he cured Demetriou's dogs glaucoma?) and gained experience in a diverse array of roles. He is clearly very connected, intelligent, likable and successful on his own merit.

The fact he is a former premiership player and loves the club is surely just the cherry on top of the beautifully and delicately baked mud cake, not some cheap Home Brand cooking chocolate used to make it. People truly underestimate the value of (highly capable) people with a passion for their club/organisation. They come to Carlton because they love Carlton and want nothing more than to see us back at the top - that is an incredible thing.

But he only got the AFL job because an ex-Carlton premiership player is the chairman (Fitzy)

I'm a Macca fan but the proof will be in the pudding with this appointment. I wish him the best (obviously).

Apologies. i did misunderstand your post.
I am so sick of people saying that anything associated with the club means we're "settling"
You're right that we have looked after past players that were held in high esteem during their playing days.
I love that.
Cheers

Just need to appoint Dooza as the coach then we can have the Glenelg Footy Club running the show

Great appointment!

Credit to Parko for arranging for Macca to spend that year or so studying vet in Queensland and playing in Melbourne at weekends. It got Macca started on life after playing.

People like jumping to conclusions without even knowing the procedure involved in the appointment

Any ideas on what that procedure is?

I think the implication is that some appointments the club has made in the past would seem to perhaps not follow a comprehensive and transparent enough process for some.

I'm happy enough for Andy to be given the role assuming an appropriate process was carried out and that would include a number of people being interviewed and/or considered for the role.

Aah you're right.
I need more of the quality posts like;

Why didn't we try and get something for Setanta?
Why didn't we try for Caddy?
Why didn't we get someone so we could say we got SOMEONE?

Good luck on appeasing the TC mob Macca.

I can't recall too many giving jobs to mates when Icke, Reilly, Montgomery, Richo, Capuano were appointed, but I could be wrong.

Well..geez..Mrs C....

I loved Andy as a player..so ..given that he is also qualified...you can google him...and...he loves our club...
that is triple happiness for me.
The bonus is of course, that ..he's great with a lame leg.

First Balme wasn't Carlton enough,
Now McKay is TOO Carlton.
:screwy:

Nobody is ever happy on TC it seems.

If the Carlton board was made up of TC posters we'd be such a paralysed rabble that we'd start to resemble Richmond.

FWIW the A.F.L. must have thought pretty highly of him and he made some hard calls there.
Can understand him going back to a club environment after 7 years at HQ and if he spends ¾ a day a week working at a vet practice so much the better.
Would much rather have him at Carlton than another club

Sticks, Braddles, Motts, Macca, Gibbs.

We've bled SA of everything good they've ever had over the years.

Obviously list management isn't his strong suit, but I think the rest covers a lot of other aspects of the role.
