If Judd keeps going the way he's going then he may well end up being. I don't buy into the have to play in a premiership crap.

Stephen Kernahan is the best ever Carlton player.

Bruce Doull runs a close 2nd

Big Nic i never saw play live

People who have been watching Carlton for 70 years have told me that John James is the best midfielder.

Well, during the West Coast years, he didn't really wear Navy Blue much, so even if you take those years into account, it won't mean much.....

You should try and find better things with your time than come onto a football forum and contribute nothing.

Dominator was great in Finals.
Ken Hands was pretty handy in finals especially Grand Finals.
He was the John Nicholls of the 40's and 50's.

Some discussion on my point about Jezza being too hot and cold. The differential between his best and worst was enormous. He could have extremely quiet games but as I said in my post he was also the most brilliant footballer I have seen and that includes them all since the mid sixties. So on my criteria he was marked down. At the same time I will contradict myself and say I would have loved him to have won a Brownlow!

Everyone has different ways of scoring for their favourite players. To my way of thinking best is not merely about brilliance but is more rounded. Hence my top five of Judd; SOS; Nick; Doormat; Jezza.

I loved watching Johnston in the big games but how often did he go missing during the season. Same with Croswell. Deisel no defensive side so how team oriented was he. Kouta may have been the best of them all but for his knee.

Au contraire. I believe that my coming onto a football forum and contributing nothing is my highest calling.

But what's your reason?

Diesel was by far the best I've seen in the Navy Blue.

Obviously Judd needs to prove himself in finals and win Grand Finals for him to be in the top 3.
1. Kernahan (2 flags as captain, most club goals)
2. Harry Vallence (11 goals against the filth in finals 2 years in row is worthy of top 3)
3. Kouta ('99 prelim final qtr :thanks: )
4. Judd (will go up with success)

Your (highlighted) comment is ridiculous.....Bob Skilton of South Melbourne was one of the greatest players ever to grace a football ground yet.....he only ever played in one Semi Final, and just happened to win 3 Brownlow Medals.....an absolute superstar of the game.

Chris Judd is already one of the greatest players to play for Carlton.....his all time ranking will only be determined by what occurs in the future.

Juddy is unbelievable but then again Doull, Hunter, Ashman, Johnston, Kernahan, Southby, Jezza, Ratten, and on and on

I'm not as lucky as other TCers to have seen the likes of Jezza, Big Nick, Barass, but here's the top 5 I've seen:

1. Kernahan
2. Williams
3. Koutoufides
4. Silvagni
4. Bradley
5. Judd

Special mentions to Ratten and Andy McKay, and Juddy has come into the top 5 players I've seen play for Carlton. The 2010 Brownlow nudged him into that top echelon.

If we win a flag or three, Juddy could very well push into the top three for mine and perhaps number one. Too early to call as our best though yet.

Yep, the five you mentioned are my five best ever.
Sticks, Diesel, SOS, Braddles, Kouta still in front of Juddy but only just. Kouta in 2000 the best player I have ever seen. He had a purple patch (mid 2000 I think) where he completely towelled up the oppostion and Denis Pagan (then at North) said they needed a bazooka to stop Kouta..

Tom won the VFL goalkiicking with albeit 54 goals. Would have to have been one of the best kicks for goal I have seen

However, should not have forgotten Walls, Busustow, Hunter & Kouta, Sheldon, Bruce Comben, Graham Donaldson, Adrian Gleeson, Laurie Kerr, Maurie Sankey and many many more

Trouble is I have seen so many great Carlton players over the years

Anyone over the age of 50 will probably tell you that
Big Nick WAS and ALWAYS will be Carlton.

You simply cannot go past him, full stop.
Its not the John Nicholls Medal for nothing.

Throw a blanket over the rest, bloody big blanky required !!
