just been going through some team stats of all the teams in league and there is one very alarming fact.

we have the lowest amount of players who average 1 goal or more per game!!

in fact we have 3. betts garlett and waite, and by all accounts betts is pretty close to being dropped, that may leave 2

every other club has at least 3 (think about 3 or 4 other low sides), while all the other top sides have 5+

while i know its 'just another stat', its a pretty scary one.

hendos is the most scary, he's only kicked 28 goals from 35 games, and it seems all our 'fwd' eggs are in this one hendo basket.

while im sure hendo will develop well in next 2-3 yrs

this is still a massive worry for mine.

Henderson played 10 games as a defender at Brisbane.

This is the problem with our supporters...they don't do their research.

well that changes everything then, :screwy:

It sure does. 28 goals from 25 games as a forward reads OK for a new kid on the block.

Dermott gave Hendo an absolute pasting on TFS this morning. Bit harsh in saying he'd be shocked if he wasn't dropped next week, but otherwise, was fairly accurate for the ponce.

I think what is more important than his footballing ability being questioned at this age, but rather his character. Derm pointed out his reaction to the Fletcher goal in the second and it was lacking.

Hendo should be kept in this week as a measure to test his character as to how he responds to a bad game. A player rated that highly as a junior, should be able to go back this week and tear it up in response to the critics.

This is why I'm in the Betts to be dropped camp, not question marks over his ability, but the constant question marks over his character to lift to the standards required of someone on that sort of coin and responsibility. We don't always play Richmond every week.

So I take it that no one agrees with my original point of more options up forward by rotating our mids through there? :hitcomputer:

Might as well change our name to the Carlton Bombers coz all we do is bomb it.

So frustrating. Our forwards all run away from the ball carrier. no one doubles back. :banghead:

I thought we were a lot better with Warnock in the goal square - takes the best defender out of play.

sending SOS to KREUZE!

Use Kreuzer as our permanent FF with spells in the ruck to give warnock a rest. He's a great mark, fast lead, good on the deck and has a great goal sense. And he'd be less likely to injure his knee again.

When is Judd going to be rested forward as alluded to by the coach???

Swan goes fwd and kicks 4 on Fri nite.

Juddy would be a nightmare matchup.

When he starts kicking straight and one of his midfield mates does the hard work for him.

Another thing I've noticed, and wasn't sure where to put it until this thread....when we do bomb it long, we put it to the top of the square where its easy for the opposition to rush it through for a behind. 3 or 4 of our early behinds were rushed.

We need to put it 25m out if we have to bomb it and then have our setups with Hampson, Waite or Henderson bringing the ball to ground if they can't mark and Garlett, Betts, Murphy, Robinson etc crumbing.

Need Ohalipin back in the form he showed in the first 8 weeks of last season at full forward. Move Waite to HF to play the Riewodt high forward role and drop Hampson.

Hendo was very poor. You'll recall he was very bad on a few occasions last year before finding some form in the 2s and coming back and being really important. He's definitely our man for now, we just need him to develop. But playing so very badly when he's not in form is not a good trait. He seems to struggle with intensity sometimes, like he's just not trying. I think its confidence. You'd hope he could at least contribute a little bit, hit some packs, bring it to ground...

Am I alone in noticing that Waite was BY FAR the best forward on the ground on the weekend? He's the only fwd in our team capable of a contested mark at the moment, probably followed by Garlett which is saying something. Hes covering ground and running hard. I know it's stating the obvious, but the big guys need to be skilled at a) marking the thing in a contest; and b) bringing it to ground to our advantage when they don't mark it. Waite is the best we've got at this. We need someone else to step up and help....

Of the mids, I really like Simpson as a forward option which hasn't been mentioned here I think? I think they played him on a flank in the latter stages of last year after he was getting sat on a little in the middle - teams realising how good he is carrying the ball. Anyway, I really like him on a flank as a change up. Great to see him in the goals on the weekend though not sure he was actually playing fwd.

I think Gibbs spent some time forward on the weekend after half time for not much of a return. Anyone notice that? Murphy is a goal kicker but likes to do it form the middle more I think, I'm loving his form. Judd's marking and set shot are not great - I worry about him in a few years when he's slower and tired. Does he have a place other than in the middle?

Mmmmm, Kreuzer (swapping ruck) and Hendo are the missing pieces for mine. We need them in and settled ASAP. If that can happen we might make a prelim.

Or we could do what Collingwood do, and go to the pockets, so if not marked it spills out of bounds. And it also makes it harder for the defensive rebound against you.

Then we better practice our tight angle shots because if marked the kick will be hard. Not a problem at present because we cant mark it to save ourselves! But when we do start grabbing the thing that may come in handy...

Waite played well for about 55-60% of the game. His first quarter and most of the second quarter he was atrocious. Playing from behind and trying to take mark of the year. Allowing Fletcher/Hooker to mark easily.

When he finally woke up and took front position we improved...why did it take him so long to stop being a lair and start being someone who plays the percentages?

I love Juddy as much as any other Carlton fan does but lets not kid ourselves...his set shot kicking is terrible!!!

I agree! As would Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson, Scotland, Russell, Armfield, Ellard, Lucas, Curnow etc. Unfortunately Ratten always seems to be a year or two behind the times, we are just so predictable at the moment.

Maybe because he is stuffed from carrying the midfield and hasn't had much of a run up forward lately?
