I think Eddie's form will change when we actually get another tall forward who can run in the set up. A 173 cm full forward playing against a 188cm backman and we bomb it onto his head and expect him to outmark them. That may be becuase of the Collingwood pressure but his best chance would have been to outsprinnt them running back towards goal but that wasn't the way the ball was delivered. He is a forward pocket goal sneak not a key position player. Add Kreuzer and Henderson to the forward set up and let them go for those marks them see how Eddie goes.

I also agree with this. Sidebottom and Beams and Blair are all good players. But having Dawes and Cloke drawing most of the attention makes a huge difference. Often we'll have an extra defender (or 2) going up to help spoil the ball, and that leaves a lot of space and freedom for their small forwards. Betts is twice as good a player as Krakouer (despite all the recent hysteria), and would dominate playing for the Pies.

here here, eddies a classic fwd pocket goal sneak who feeds off crumbs from the talls.
having hendo/warnock/kruze planted at FF will help him.
he's just a touch out of form thats all, give him a few weeks im sure he'll snag a bag very soon

whats with all you haters of Eddie and Carrots, 3 games in?? carrots cut ablett up and kept him to an unspeakable 23 poss, i know it was his abletts first game blah blah but he IS a freak, carrots on jobe or curnow to hard tag him for sure

The question is, will Eddie ever have a street named after him

Ha, it's even a "one way" street too.

Reckon Betts should start as the sub this week. Could suit him.

Looks like even Ratts has had enough of Eddie not putting enough effort in the big stage.

What would Ratts know?

I hope Eddie kicks 5. But then its more important what he does the next 3 weeks. Harass, chase, tackle.

Agree with Buzzahhh and those lamenting his lack of big game contributions.

I would go a step further and say he doesnt like it when it gets really tough. I think O'brien intimidates him. I think both of those examples given in the Collingwood game were examples when he simply did not go hard enough - you can rationalise it until the cows come home - he did not go hard enough.

I'm a huge fan of his work when it's going well, especially his chasing and tackling and assists, but he's nowhere near as effective when it gets tight and tough. And that's what happens in big games and finals.

Let Collins take his place and Eddie can be the super sub

Not will it only make Eddie take notice but the rest of the team as well. Ratts finally means business.

Eddie really struggles with quick, taller opponents. They did throw him in the middle for a little bit last week and there was not much improvement. Interestingly on AFL teams last night, David Parkin said that 5 Carlton players pulled out of contests last week although he did not name them. From what I noticed Eddie is one and Thornton is another, struggling to say I noticed the other 3 players.

Plus his fresh legs against a tired bombers outfit could be a good tactic. Who else should be our sub?

Eddie is the best tackler at the club. Yes he hasn't always performed in all our big games but he has had one bad game this year against Collingwood. He is far better than Leon Davis. Eddie can win a hardball. It wouldn't be the worst thing for us all if eddie was 28 and he was left out of a winning grandfinal side

Best tackler? - garlett, judd, robinson, kreuzer would be better imo - and thats just off the top of my head - there are probably a few others that would be the equal of him

On Betts - it shouldnt be how many possessions he gets or goals he kicks - its about the amount of effort/work that he puts in (or as some would say KPIs). Atm Betts isnt getting near the contests often enough, nor is he hitting the packs hard enough - things he would do when he is on song. The chasing/harrassing is also a fair way down on his usual output.

That is why he is being criticised.

Eddie's a little champ, but if you want consistency you will not get it.

Every footy brain in the biz recognises the difficulty of being a forward pocket and Eddie is one of the best.

I've got no problem if he get's dropped if he's not giving enough, he should have had a rest during that lean patch at the back end of last year, but the guy is seriously important in our best 22.

He wasn't great but still managed a few deft touches at important times against the pies.

Eddie 4eva.

He got to plenty last Friday; saw it myself on the tape. More than Jeff, if you want a comparison. Probably more than any other forward on the ground, for either team.

Give it a rest jimmae. he was shit. His coach has publicly said he was shit.

Accept it and move on. You aren't going to convince anyone. We all have eyes.

I'm not saying he was electric, but he was doing the running. He was still in the worst performed bracket on the night despite that.

I could run around pretending to try too, but I don't think Carlton FC would want to pay me $15k per match to do that.

I like this topic. We didn't trade him, he is a hot and cold player and it would be really interesting to see how he performs in the 2's for a week.

I think we are quick to overract here. I think every including Eddie and Ratten agree he played badly against the Pies. But gee we have short memories. In round 1 against the tigers Eddie Betts was clearly our best forward on the day, kicked 3 himself and also set up countless other goals with his pressure and kicking.

So he does need to be more consistent and if he has another quiet game and doesnt go in hard then yes lets drop him but to drop one of our best forwards over the past few years is a bit premature.

The question people are asking is that he goes missing in the big games.

Collingwood games are big games.

Finals are big games.

Etc

Etc

Etc
