GWS would have rocks in their head if they weren't targetting Murphy. And Swan. And a heap of other quality players.

What will be, will be.

But if I worked for Carlton, I'd be taking young Murph off for a quick tour of the delights of outer Western Sydney. Mt Druitt, Rooty Hill... it's an awesome place. Bring his girlfriend too. Shout them both lunch at Pizza Hut (that's about as good as it gets). Then maybe take a drive from Western Sydney to the sort of suburb he'd want to live in up there. It'll take about 90 minutes each way in traffic.

Western Sydney ain't the Gold Coast, that's for sure.

But you wouldn't want to let Westie stereotypes ruin the truth or anything

And, FWIW, he could live on the Illawarra coast (Coledale, Austinmere, Thirroul, Bulli) and be 45 minutes from Blacktown, no sweat.

Or he could live in a multi million dollar home at West Pennant Hill and be less than 20 minutes from the ground. Seriously some people have NFI what they are talking about.

Indeed.

I hope Marc has the courtesy to end the speculation quickly if he intends to stay... Surely the Gary Goldcoast saga should have shown how disruptive it all is to your team mates and your own game...

It will be hard to keep all our 1st draft picks inside the cap.

Somehow this was embedded in the afl retain GF replay article.

Quote:
CARLTON has scoffed at reports it could lose Marc Murphy to Greater Western Sydney, declaring the midfielder wants to stay at the club.

The Giants are said to have identified Murphy as a major part of their plans to build a competitive list before their 2012 AFL debut.

The former No. 1 draft pick, who rejected father-son overtures from the Brisbane Lions to play for Carlton, is out of contract at the end of next season.

But Blues chief executive Greg Swann yesterday said the club was confident the 23-year-old would soon sign a new contract.

"It will happen in due course. It will get done and he'll be playing for us. There's no drama," Swann said.

Murphy has finished top-three in the Blues' best-and-fairest in each of the last three seasons, but was left out of Carlton's leadership group this year.

"We're pretty comfortable with where we're at," Swann said. "I saw the Collingwood guys in the paper today and they're saying the same thing; that none of them will go and we're pretty confident we'll keep 'Murph'."

On Twitter Murph is in the middle of chatter about a trip to the US at the end of next season with Brock, Gibbsy, Simmo and Walker... would seem he's more than comfortable at the blues.

Don't say that. I said it two years ago and got howled down for a bean-counting, no-vision, pessimistic, know all flower with no idea of anything and told to go and barrack for Richmond.

You have been warned, you bean-counting etc etc.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't negotiations with his last contract drag on for quite a while?
Not that there was much likelihood of him leaving, just seemed to take forever to come together.

Wasnt that because his last contract coincided with Fev's last contract? I think Murphy's required more work to ascertain what his marketing contract was going to be as well.

If I remember correctly his last contract needed AFL approval as it was fluid and the yearly breakdowns depended on how much space we had in the salary cap at the time. That was why it was finalised later than normal.

Well if Murph and his manager don't want this drag all year & concentrate on football he will renew his contract ASAP. Like Ablett when contract innuendo hits the media it affects his playing form. So either sign or not doesn't matter - just make a decision and have a good year on the field. I have a feeling this is going to drag on and on and Murphy will find it hard to reject a multi million dollar deal.

i dont think it dragging on is any indication regarding whether he is staying or not. im mates with michael hurley and i remember early last year he told us that there was no way he was going to gold coast but on the advice of his manager let it drag out a bit and in the end probably got a bigger contract while according to him the club had no clue of his intentions throughout.

Dragging on doesn't mean he won't sign.

If he has a good beginning of the season, he could push his value up and earn more. Standard negotiation tactics.

Grigg can be differentiated by the fact that he wasn't really playing until later on in the season and would have wanted more game time which it appears he would have been promised by Ditchmond.

So who would you let go of from our #1's, if you could choose??

I think personally I'd be leaning towards Gibbs at the moment

I just heard on SEN that Chris Judd will be on this afternoon on the subject of the possibility of losing Murphy to GWS. Will be an interesting interview.

Yeh, did not say much

- a lot of speculation about many players cause of money being thrown around
- murph knows his worth to the CFC so hopefully he dreys a Carlton player for life
- will not speak to him about the topic and does not want to put public pressure on him
- feeling much more confident about thus season coming up as there is no longer the uncertainty about our forward line
- waitey and hen do have a great chemistry up forward and impressed with the 3 indigenous boys

Given Murphy didn't want to move to Brisbane due to wanting to stay in Melbourne, I can't help but think that will count for something in his decision whether to accept an offer from GWS.
