Don't know the finer details but it's all good.

Yep...it's less coin than the last deal however. Mars will now be the predominant sponsor, and while Hyundai remains a sponsor, they'll look to focus on other facets of the sponsorship. At commencement of the sponsorship Carlton took a novel approach to hitting the KPI's by appointing a full-time representative to facilitate Hyundai car purchases by its membership base, players and staff.

The concept resulted in more than 230 vehicles being sold to the group in that first 12 months of the deal and the facilitator worked about 35-40 hours a week with the club liaising with Carlton sponsors, coterie group, members, players and staff.

The facilitator did negotiate a 90-car fleet sale by Hyundai to retail group Spotlight, but since then the development of the role hasn't been as successful, so it will be interesting to see how they approach 2011 and beyond. At any rate, the deal is done - but I'd suggest we've fallen away slightly from the aforementioned figure of around $6.2 million a year in sponsorship $.

Both sides need to get creative to make the most of the opportunities at hand. One thing that's always baffled me is why there isn't at the very least a 50" Plasma screen near Visy Park reception showcasing the Hyundai brand and the Carlton relationship. Throw in some '95 footage for good measure.

Your a thinking man Doc.

The last paragraph is clever without being clever...it's a no brainer.

Maybe those who should be making the clever/ obvious decisions are no brainers themselves.
It seems that way to me.

I hope you tell 'em and you don't wait for the phone ring.

If you don't land the job, or even, a job, I will still buy that coffee.

Apparently Skoda are paying GWS $1.5M per year for 3 years to be their major sponsor.

Yep, Hyundai has come along way and they do make decent cars. That doesn't mean they're as good as Skoda, though.

FWIW...

Quote:
With only one week left before the announcement of the host countries for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup™ tournaments, Kia Motors Corporation, in conjunction with Hyundai Motor Company, has extended its agreement with the world football governing body, FIFA, to an unprecedented long-term commitment for sponsoring the FIFA World Cup™ in 2018 and 2022 in the product category of an Automotive Official Partner.

This thread was a good one...so with the news that Hyundai have signed on for another 3 years, it's another 3 year sponsorship that we have to service, but needn't re-negotiate for another 3 years. Good news is that it's for the same amount, when initial thoughts were it would be reduced from the $1.6m.

Hyundai remains the official vehicle sponsor of the club as well as its coach sponsor and receives logo branding on the front of the club’s home jersey and on the back of the away jersey, and is branded on the on-field apparel worn by the coaching staff during matches.

That said, Greg Swann and Anthony Barham (GM Sponsorship & Sales) still have their work cut out for them. Our biggest sponsorship is Visy. They've committed $5m over the last 3 years and it expires in August of this season. I'm not of the opinion that we should take that money as a given. The day we do, we're in trouble...though most Carlton people I talk to refer to the Visy Sponsorship as being a part of Richard Pratt's last Will & Testament. While I believe the Sponsorship will continue - whether it's for the same generous amount is another question altogether.

So according to the above, Hyundai = 1.6mill/season and visy was 5mill/3 seasons (1.67mill/season) - both a pretty comparable then are they not? (ie Visy isnt overly generous but more in line with market rates)

I'd also have to presume that the 5mill/season excludes naming rights to PP? - if not, then surely the visy deal is better value than what hyundai is getting (jumpers)?

Definitely agree though that we should never get to the stage where we take sponsors for granted
