Most coaches and ex-coaches will say there is little to be achieved on match day. They say there is a limited amount the coach can change during a game. The best tactics and plans are done in the pre-match preparation.
Laidley always seemed to come up with the right game plan, so he's a good candidate. But lets interview a few and hire the best.
I think Ratts will be told that changes will be made and he'll have to accept it.

Yeah but they might get a bit lonely going off to train on their own every preseason...

I agree. The overwhelming majority of planning etc occurs during the week but match day coaching may contribute up to 10% difference. That 10% includes match ups, restructuring, monitoring and controlling momentum shifts, opposition zone control (clearances etc).
That 10% can be the difference between winning and losing or be the difference between finals or top 4.

Worsfold is the perfect example. He has a reasonable coaching group, adequate knowledge of the game and respect within the WA football community but he is a poor match day coach which will lead to his demise.

Don't want to be a sadsac nellie...but, wouldn't it be more likely right niw that he'd go to Essendon*?..given that they are a few coaches short of the full premiership?

I don't know about Laidley but if you were looking to draft an assistant coach you would get whoever Sydneys ruck coach is
I haven't any idea who it is but if has been the same bloke that transformed Ball Jolly and now Munford and Pike he is a miracle worker

Munford was sensational yesterday and surely must be challenging Sandilands for all Australian

And what is wrong with Mathew Capuano ? Reckon he has done a sensational job with our ruckman.Kruez,Hammer,Red,and Warnock are going swimmingley.

a) It's Mumford and b)...

The Swans don't have a ruck coach. They have a stoppage coach. His name is Mark Stone and he's trodden a similar path to AFL coaching ranks as Darren Harris, Carlton's Development Coach...prior to joining Roos at Sydney he was at West Coast. Actually - he's an old school mate of Brett Kirk and Kirk talked him into making the move. There isn't much rocket science with Stone, although I'd wager that the Swans use more set-plays and tactics than we do and there's an element of predictability at our stoppages, regardless of where the stoppage is taking place.

Everyone knows Geelong should have got rid of Blake instead of Mumford...knew that before it happened...that was just one of the silliest moves of the decade.

I thought it was a case of they could afford one and not the other.

Correct. Geelong really wanted Mumford to stay but couldn't compete with the dollars and the term of the contract offered by Sydney (initially offered 3 then pushed out to 4 years to clinch the deal).
