I have no idea whether Leading Teams had a good program or not, as I haven't seen it. However, the word is that it has helped many teams immeasurably. Certainly Geelong, and pretty sure they worked with Sydney and Hawthorn too. That's helping 3 clubs win flags.

As for Akermanis, well, follow the logic here...

Quote:
Then we dig a little further and have a look at the men running Leading Teams. I can't find anywhere in their lives that they have been involved in any successful team. Not an AFL premiership between them.

Followed by...

Quote:
When Geelong won the flag in 2007 everyone wanted to tell the world what a great program Leading Teams was. Maybe it had an impact, but surely the Cats were ready to take off with the coach changing his ways, a makeover of the playing style and the pure depth of talent.

Two things jump out. First, the LT's guys may have not played in premierships, but they have run leadership programs for clubs and that helped them wih flags (and the Geelong story is well documented). Second, perhaps the coach changed his ways because of the leadership program?

One more thing. Jason Akermanis is the only player in living memory (and I would guess even before that) to have been sacked mid-season by two different clubs. Doesn't give him much credibility to talk about leadership, IMHO.

Geelong would have won the 2007 premiership leading teams or not. It's typical mumbo jumbo. Akers says hi to Mick Malthouse.

Marc Murphy a better player after receiving some tough love
Quote:
"Last year they told me they wanted me to be a bit harder at the ball," Murphy said this week. "I took it on board, but I wasn't too happy when I got told that at first.

"That's the idea of Leading Teams - to make yourself better. You hear it from four or five blokes and it makes a big impact.

"When you are going through the under-18s you just get the ball and you never worry about your opponent.

"But now football is so much about what you are doing when you don't have the ball. It's been a big growth in my game."

"It's not that he didn't give you a break, but he's learnt not to see you just as a footballer but also as a person as well," Murphy said. "He's taking an interest in things outside football.

"He said that to him going through Leading Teams and he's really taken it on board. The guys appreciate that.

Does the club still employ Ray Mclean?

Is it time to put Gibbs and Garlett withMurphy in the middle for some home truths?

Hampson has shown more improvement than Garlett.

Sakc Mclean.

They might play hard footy if the players were forced to defend themselves after being circled by supporters.

Murphy flapped his arms like a bird calling for a handball receive.

Ray should get up there and give everybody some home truths about himself.

This kind of stuff is ridiculous.

I thought Juddy showed fantastic leadership yesterday. Was almost a lone hand in winning the contested ball (with contributions from Ellard and Robbo). And almost single-handedly got us to a quarter time lead, after a dominant first quarter.

Juddy as good player as he is .. is not a fantastic leader.

Great pplayer does not mean great leader.

Collingwood would have Swann as their captain not Maxwell.

Juddy has too much ice running through his veins and from the outside llooks too elitist.

The stories out of WC was Cousins was their leader Judd was their captain

No he had it in his nose and his vains.

Question is.. is Juddy captaincy material.???

Again...best captain does not always mean best player.

Just putting it out there...

Worthy of a debate. I think Juddy is a good leader in terms of his preparation, aggression at the contest and conduct. I am not sure he is comfortable with the captaincy as he is an introverted type. He is in many ways a worthy leader but maybe not a natural leader. What makes it more difficult is that he has to lead so many that are also introverted types.

And you are so right about Cousins. Who can forget Cousins after the premiership cup was raised by Judd and Worsfold ... he immediately jumped up on stage and put the cup in his hands.
