Con:
Walker - skills have not improved after 7 years
Jamo - looks puzzled out there
TBird - lost
Russell - consistently stuffs up 1-2 times a game
Carazzo - still only a battler
O'Halpin - we have no-one to replace him
Grigg - Grigg vintage 2008 has vanished

The above will notch up 100-150 games before they finish up. Surely we cannot carry so many questionable players.

Pro:
Scotland, Judd, Betts

Just as a matter of interest, who in the AFL doesn't. I'm holding my breath to find out.

Pros

A wins a win i suppose
Scotland was BOG.
Judd is so strong
Mitchy - Leave him in the team. He is one of the hardest players we have.
Hendo is a future star
Betts was great, did his bit to lift the team.
Yarran just pure class. Love him.
Setanta - all I want him to do is crash packs kick the occasional couple of goals. doing it atm even when out of form.
Hammer - Tap work was good, just gotta get those marks to stick!
Jacobs - I liked his game too
Carrots - Great tagging game
Simmo - Does his job well

Cons

PLEASE DROP THORNTON. TRIPE FOOTBALLER. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH.
Walker back to his poor skills finest
JR turning over 2 goals
Grigg? What has happened mate?
No Bower! @#$%&! Quads
GIBBS is not hard enough at it for my liking.
The Carazzo bagging shows no understanding of his role in the team. Doing much better now.
Jamo bagging is also ridiculous.
I am not sure why Lucas was out?
Houlihan missed a few.
That holding the ball in the goal square which wasn't paid to Garlett
I dont think I saw Joesph

Pro's

A win is a win. Will gladly take the 4 points.
Scotto
Simmo
Eddie
Judd
Garlett
Yarran
Bouncing back after a truly HORRIBLE start.
Hopefully built some confidence and form in the second half.
Carrots

Cons

THAT start. Really, wtf was that?
Intensity early, against better opposition we would of got smashed.
Turnovers, our skills have been very poor of late.
Decision making at times is woeful.
Walks, love him to bits but disposal was poor last night.
Carrots skills, yes I know I have him as a pro too, needs to finish better for mine. Those shots on goal were not AFL standard though I appreciate the role he played
Jamo - to me he is not on song and hasn't been for a while.
JR - has come a long way but imho is turning the ball over too often in recent times.
50 metre penalties, gifting the opposition goals :banghead: :banghead:

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognise we play our best footy by backing ourselves and attacking the game through the corridor with constant run. We haven't done that consistently for weeks now. Hopefully we can get it together and take it right up to the Bulldogs. Still plenty of work to do and we need a huge lift.

I actually thought we tried to go through the corridor too often when their wasn't a viable option, which in turn resulted in self imposed pressure which wasn't warranted. Too often early in the game we went to a contested situation in the middle or tried to pull off high risk kicks to get it there which suggests there was a pre-game focus on it.

Having options through the corridor are a result of forcing the opposition to turn it over or very fast ball movement. That should be the focus. Concentrating on placing enormous pressure on the opposition. If you can get the ball back off them when they're in an offensive mindset, the space and options will be available as a result. You cant just decide to play through the middle of the ground and expect the opposition will allow it which is what it appears we tried on Thursday.
Unfortunately our pre-game focus appeared to be on the outcome rather than the methodology. A good team would have picked us apart.

Fortunately, we were playing a crap team and I'll enjoy the 9 goal win and hope the players will learn from it. :smoking:

How on earth can you be so negative
The players are trying their hardest and ratts knows what he is doing

They have played more games than we have.

Make sure you're paying attention just before half time. Houlihan takes an absolute blinder of a mark.

In fact he took 2 others as well - both good contested marks. But I wonder if he has some groin or hip soreness because he didn't make the distance with either of them and they were both within the 50 - he usually nails those.

Pros:

* Scotland, one of his best games. Put himself on the line several times. Leader.
* Yazz vs. Rich? Anyone still want Rich over Yazz? Anyone? Hello?
* Robbo: if the coach wanted to win the contested ball he brought in the right player. That he could also hurt the opposition with what his normally a weakness, his disposal, was a bonus.
* Hendo's graph: on the rise. Not afraid to work hard.
* Betts ... undeniable
* Army

Cons:

* several players look to be down on confidence. Soon as we came right, so did they.
* 50m penalties
* gap between our best and worst

Hammer's tapwork - watch the replay, first time I've seen one of our ruckman consistently tap it to the advantage of one of our midfielders. Saw the stats in the Hun today and it said only 10 hitouts at 30% efficiency, but from watching the game live, his ruckwork has improved out of sight.

If Bullants reports are right and he has improved his marking as well (give him a week to get over the rust and nerves of playing AFL again), he will be amazing. Really impressed.

You should pay more attention to Jacobs' ruckwork -easily the best tap ruckman at the club atm.

Hampson was servicable for his first game back - did some good things and some almost things. Will be better for the run and imo will need about a month in the seniors to pick up the pace again. Despite his inability to mark consistently, I think hampson can play a very important role as a forward. Crashes packs and brings the ball to the front of the pack consistently giving plenty of opportunities for yarran, betts, garlett, houlihan.

Long term, I'd see jacobs as first ruck with kreuzer/hampson as secondary ruckmen/ruckrovers that rotate through the forward line.

ROFL! In our top 5 last night. How did Rich go? A handful of possessions and one goal courtesy of a lace-out pass from JR.

We are in a different era now, and you only have to listen to young players get interviewed on TV. They don't say things like "Player X is great, he had 32 possessions with 78% disposal efficiency". What they talk about is playing roles for the team. "He played his role well". "He's doing a role for us", etc.

Carrots and Houlihan have been playing specific roles this year. Carrots puts a heavy tag on one of the opposition's best on-ballers who uses the ball well, and Hoops puts a "forward tag" on the opposition's best rebound 50 half-back. They've done it pretty well so far with obviously a few slip-ups.

By all means, criticise them when they don't play their role well, but look THERE not elsewhere!!!

If we are going to improve these guys are not going to get us there. We will float between 6th and 12th with them in the side. Their best isn't good enough so make the hard call 2 years early and get 40 games into a kid, who can replace them.

Ever have anything much good to say? Premierships have been won with blokes alot worse in the team.

Some just don't know much.
