WTF :Cons
"The only worry for the Blues could be if the match review panel scrutinizes Waite's elbow to the head of Zac Dawson in the third term".

Most of the pros have been covered. But I really wanted to highlight something I saw last night.

Armfield's kicking has REALLY improved. He used to just blindly bomb it forward, but his kicking was A Class last night. Credit to the kicking coach!

n.e.i.:

Pros:

Jacobs played his best game for Carlton and got better as the game went on. He's getting the confidence of his team mates too. And did a bit of grunt work. Will continnue to improve.

Johnson - see Jacobs.

Yarran and Waite made their presence felt down to the back line.

Betts seen in the midfield. Eddie's rsponse to Baker(?)'s hit on Yarran.

Cons

Baker(?) 's hit on Yarran. Didn't see it only Eddie's rsponse. Was he hit from behind?

Yes he was, punch to the back of the head after the ball had passed over the top. A really cheap shot, to be expected from a vicious vegetable who had been totally dominated football wise all game.
My only CON was that it was left to Eddie to remonstrate - at that stage it should have been an all in.
Pity we don't have a Rhys Jones these days - all skill plus the XXX factor.

The whole night was one big PRO. However:

Setanta. Making contests, feeding the trio, causing havoc. I saw Juddy single him out after the siren to tell him 'great game'.

Athletic forward line. We may not have the best forward line in the business, but can any other team equal the athleticism of Setanta, Waite, Garlett, Betts and Yarran? Every one of those guys is capable of doing something freakish. Great to watch.

JR. Dennis Cometti said of him last night "I think Jordan Russell is the most improved player in the competition."

Con:

White jumpers. If we ever play St Kilda in a grand final, if we lose the mid-week toss, does that mean we'd have to play a grand final in those bastard anti-Carlton jumpers? You'd at least hope the club would get the guys to quickly change over at game's end, so they can get the cup in navy blue.

Was a bit in 2 minds as I wondered down La Trobe St from work to Etihad at 6:30 but I was rewarded with Carlton's mosty complete performance in about a decade.

PROS Too many to mention but the pro-est pros for me were:
Ratts and MC - I have been a critic especially after Essendon* games, but last night was a brilliantly planned and executed assault. Great work.
Team - most even performance I can remember. CJ was just another very good player, and didn't have to carry us on his shoulders (CJ=Judd not Johnston)
Jamo - best game I have seen. Previously mainly a close checking spoiler like Presti, last night he looked like Scarlett and didn't give that log Kosi a sniff
Army and JR, both terrific and give us the run we haven't had. Happy to forgive Army a couple of mistakes. His endeavour and speed are terrific, and JR has proved an excellent first rounder. I love the way he has slowly developed into the guy our recruiters could see 6 years ago. Lesson: give draftees time!
Yarran - utterly sublime skills, several pieces of play were breathtaking for balance, pace, handling, disposal.
Rucks - gave the old Sainters a bath and Sauce is really putting the heat on 206 and Hammer. He will get games in a row and improve a lot. I do like a raw boned awkward old fashioned ruckman.
Carrazzo- terrific, flogged Dal Santo
People may make a con of White, but even tho at times he looked like he still thought he was in the WAFL, he has made huge strides from a late rookie and will only get better and he did some good things last night - and we win 75% of games he plays!
Lucas. Terrific pick up. With a few more pre seasons he is going to be a star.

CONS
We have really exposed the Saints which may take the Pies a step closer to a flag
Slowing the game down. Yes, I know it needs to be done, buit it seems when players hold the ball over their head they develop tunnel vision. Slowing it down doesn't mean turning your back on play and only looking backwards for a pass, it means keeping possession. Too often clear options up the ground were ignored, or covered by the time we looked up. Go back quickly and assess the best option.
Churlish to make a con of a player and this is more an observation that TBird looked very slow and will struggle to hold his place when we get Bower and Walker fit.

After reading JohnMs comments - I agree re alternate strip. If we need one, why not have one that recalls our history. Bring back the 19thC jumper with the yellow yoke as the alternate strip if we must have one.

Good to see White taking them on a couple of times in a game where he can do it without costing us the game if it doesn't work.

Soon enough he'll learn his limitations or improve his breaking of tackles.

Did a couple of impressive things up forward. Showed some grunt. IMO he's improving game by game and will surprise us.

Pro - An even team performance. The hallmark of great teams is to have an even contribution amongst all players.
= The umpires allowed a tough hard game to unfold. Few soft frees. Players who stage (Hi Milne and Schneider) were not rewarded
- Pace - Juddy has his jets back. Santy's helpers need a yard of space only. Yarran may be right that he's the quickest.
- Houlihan's game was pivotal. Every loss we have, the chorus starts for Houlihan to be dropped. He is so vital to us winning footy games, it just ain't going to happen.
-Tackling and chasing pressure were immense.
- I thought sauce was ordinary at 1/4 time. By the end of the game, I was eating my words
Cons - t-bird looked slow and unsure, ditto with johnson
- St Kilda fans who believe the umpires screwed them. No doubt if Roo was there they would have got 3 goals from frees, but the umps didnt get conned by their little stagers
- Con for Milne. On a Monday night, he can't trawl night clubs for drunk or sleeping girls that he can creep on.

Carlton playing with intent and commitment, with players believing in each other as a unit

The emergence of our new Earl - kudos to Carlos. You can't overstate how important he is to our forward structure. He demands a key defender who can't risk running off him, he creates opportunities as a leading forward, he crashes the packs and he brings his little helpers into the game.

Carrots, Houla, Scoota, Juddster - played as leaders, setting the standard

Army and JR - breaking the lines and taking it forward - simply brilliant

Con

Waite getting into unecessary "skirmishes" and risking getting rubbed out. He was key to our win last night.

Thought Johnson wasn't that bad last night... was obviously trying to grab his second chance at senior level and tackled and contested pretty hard - kicking wasn't that bad either

Pros: On the Couch tonite- There was only 1 game in the past 2 days so it will dominate discussions
Cons : The pricks on Footy Classified went for Sun night son GT wouldn't have to bag the Saints and caro wouldn't have to laud the Blues

Yeah who else has noticed how she seems to be a fan of ours on-field? Was one of very few commentators who pre-season thought we'd go alright this year. Obviously still writes a lot of negative stuff about our past and present off-field problems.
