Clone Jezza, Wayne Johnston, Bruce Doull, Soapy Vallance and Ragsy Goold. Claim them all under the father/son rule in one year and then sit back and watch.

[Edit] Sorry, maybe this should be in the 'Recruiting' thread.

To have not built the legends stand - that big lump of metal is what almost killed the club

Part 1. Challenged Dimwitriu in the Supreme Court under restraint of trade when he and Evans (remember him, then AFL president but also ex Essendon* pres.) fined and stripped us of the draft picks.

Part 2. of the double header. Sacked Elliott and all his board including Sticks for being lying cheats who almost killed Carlton.

I would sack Wayne Hughes immediately and overhaul our recruiting department. I would allow Hughes to stay on in an assistant's role. He is of course welcome to leave if he gets the head job at another AFL club.

I would target Stephen Wells to be the main guy, paying him whatever he wants.

I would then target some highly rated assistant recruiters and make our department the best funded, best staffed in the entire game.

Don't know about sacking Hughes but beefing up the recuiting department for sure. Particularly interstate. Amazing we can't find the smokies from S.A. and W.A. etc.

I believe there are plenty of people talking to the club in Sydney, yet a lot seems to get dismissed without being looked into.

Simon White was a shocker at 66 in the rookie draft

If I have one decision to make it would be to get rid of this 1970s/1980s mentality. Such behaviours you could get away with back then as the media coverage wasn't as prevalent as it is today. Hopefully this new state of the art facility wakes it up to people that we are in 2010.

Probably try and find a new President. Others have covered the reasons why....

Dont see why some want Wells instead of Hughes.WH has done a reasonable job and after the rookie draft I think the list looks better balanced and is as good as most in terms of what we have to develop. Stephen Wells has done a good job at Geelong but if WH had some of the father son picks walk in the door like Wells had he would also look like a champion recruiter...

I'd send a memo to the other 15 clubs asking why they're even bothering in 2010.

White hasn't played an AFL game.....too earlly to say we found a smokie, or was even value where picked, WC passed on him for JON after he had trained with them.......but Garlett is one WH did find.
Armfield was a smokie for those that rate him.
AJ a rookie selection too.
I dont really care which state our smokies come from as long as we find them anyway.

We need to get more ruthless trading out older players when our window is shut.
Knocking back a 1st rounder for Lance the year before he was sacked a prime example.
Not much room left for sentiment anymore.

The current one is smoothed around the edges. As I said earlier, the main thing is that the letters are the same and they stand for the same thing.

Wouldn't you agree?

Changing the jumper again and again doesn't really sell confidence, does it? It doesn't really show strength or commitment. What we have now is absolutely fine, there is no need whatsoever to change it.
Hawthorn changed back to its old jumper and won a premiership and increased its membership. Collingwood use their old jumper as a clash strip. St Kilda wear their old jumper for certain games. What i propose is we wear the old jumper(circa 1995) against traditional rivals eg Coll,Ess and Richmond, and have the current jumper and clash jumper for the rest. That would satisfy all supporters tastes and provide more of a range of merchandise.
