Will put in a proper pros and cons later when i'm more awake, but I have to say the most enjoyable pro was Murphy's mark over the Chad. It was a great mark and result, but being over the Chad just made it all the more enjoyable. :smoking:

PROS

Tackling and defensive pressure.

Remember in the Pagan days when tackles wouldn't stick or the boys would be brushed off like flies? Ever since the Collingwood game this has been the key to bringing others unstuck, despite our shocking use of the ball at times.

CONS

Dean Brogan - what a mong. And the most moronic-looking footballer since John Ironmonger.

Seeing Megan Gale and some bloke there too :smoking:

PROS

- Structure
Dare i say it? Do we have it right now? We looked (for 3 qtrs at least) like we knew what we were doing when going forward.

- Murphy / Gibbs
Both are superstars. Murphy looks like he is coming into his prime. That kid could do anything next year!

- Fevola.
Another Coleman is certainly deserved for Fevola who played his best game for the year yesterday IMHO (yes, even better than the 9 game haul).
LOVED his Tackle on that prick Cornes.

- Walker
looked comfortable and believed that he 'Belongs'.

- Cornes got owned.
Seriously mate, if you come out and say that kind of crap then you better back it up! You got owned my. You were Marc Murphy's step ladder, your team got done by almost 10 goals and the man who's 'skin' you wanted to get under kicked a lazy 6. Couldn't have happend to a better knobhead!

Cons:-

- Clearences?
My god? Did we even win one?

- Tackles.
Loved that we looked like we wanted to apply preasure but can any of our tackles stick?

- Hadley
Sorry, i thought he had a shocker. He racked up some dispossals but he turned the ball over and gave away a few too many free's for mine.

Totally agree with the coment about the kickouts...!!!
If we are to be a real threat in september, this part of our game is pathetic and needs to be adressed very quickly.
We take to long at times and the oppositon man up on us too easily, kick to 1 on 3 contests where we are outnumbered,go too wide
on occasions. What happened to the old fashioned huddle then breaking to space..

Maybe i'm being to harsh but i see teams like west coast,Fremantle and the Kangas doing a much better job in that department than us
and we are 5th.! Apart from that we played fantastic yesterday,we fix that part of our game and we will be a real threat come finals and
score heavily against quality opposition on the rebound..

WE ARE COMING AND THEY KNOW IT!!!!
simonverbeek wrote:
Is that the first 9 goal win without a centre clearance in AFL history?

In any case, Some things are starting to click together nicely.

PROS

1. Brett Thronton - playing like an A grade defender

2. Richard Hadley - adds so much "in the bubble". Can butcher it. How was he in the 2's for 3 months!

3. AJ - keeps on keeping on. Quality

4. Rusty - I don't know where this has come from. His best footy has been as a leading HFF, but this 3rd defender role is doing OK. Did lose his man at that stoppage before 3Qtime for a bad goal, but otherwise good.

5. We nailed our 3 number 1 picks, and we also got HIM to the club.

CONS

1. The clearances were a disgrace. We got creamed. Did we really miss Hammer that much, or was it the guys on the ground? Bit of both i think

2. Kickouts again - when defending we just give away uncontested marks at 50. It's infuriating! Some of ou long kicks out of the pocket are atrocious

3. I love Eddie and we know he's playing hurt but we miss him being 100% fit. Just not the same spark

4. Wiggins was simply not up to it today

5. Mitch Rob has great endeavour but disposal can be butchered. He needs time, unlike wiggo who shouldn;t play again this year

Great to shove it up those flat track bullies. Dean Brogan is a shocking human being.

September here we come!

Great win, a real team efffort,

Pros
Walkers first half
Murphy's hanger
Murphy's hanger was over Chad
Fev's tackle on Chad in the last quarter
Hearing the club song during the final quarter, especially at an away game
Gibbs
Hadley

Cons
Still too many turnovers
Pathetic coverage by channel 7

Pros -

1 - The number 1's. Every week I change my mind on who will be the best. We have 3 really good players right now, they will become stars.

2 - The whipping boys stepped up - Stevo, Russell, Wiggo and Cloke had games that ranged from excellent to "did the job they needed too"

3 - Simmo on the wing, love the man.

4 - Forward 50 seemed to work better after qtr time, we were breaking down at half forward int he first. Good work to Ratts and the boys.

5 - Judd telling Brogan to piss off before the game. Don't mess with his boys.

There were more but lets leave it at 5

Cons -

1 - Me for arguing with all my Carlton mates throughout the year about Bret Thornton. I didn't think he was in our best 22, I thought he made too many mistakes that cost goals, I thought he was too slow in moving the ball... His last 2 games have been class. Congrats to him for making me feel a fool.

2 - Looking at the ladder to predict finals is a lot more stressful than looking at the ladder thinking "hmm if we loose tomorrow we will come last but get pick 1"... Makes a nice change.

Hey Ryan seriously i can't stand Chad Cornes either but he did not get owned today. I actually thought he was Port's best player. He made many spoils and did not get beaten in any marking contest apart from the superb hanger by Murph. So i just wanted to mention that cos yes he is a knobhead i agree but he did win his position yesterday

Yeah sorry mate. What i said was kinda confusing.

He played a good game (probably their best along side his brother).

What i meant was everything he claimed they would do turned out to be a whole lot of sugar-coated-fairy-shit!

In that respect, Yup - Cornes at the very least was left looking like a knob head.............even more so than usual.

Kane was very good also.

Just on the coverage, how much do they love zooming right in so you can only see the player with the ball?! At one point in the third quarter the ball got kicked into space and they zoomed in so far you could only see the ball and no players! What the hell are they doing? I don't need to know if any of our players are having bad skin days. Enough with the zoom!

Pros:
Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuz - all class
Walker - looking like he will be up and running for the finals
AJ - never gives up
JR - consistently looking like an AFL player now, rather than just showing patches
Fev's tackle on Cornes - and didn't the Carlton crowd love it
Murph's hanger over Cornes - loved that just as much
Judd - had a quiet day, but seeing him live makes you appreciate his skill and vision

Cons:
Wiggo - looks like he won't be getting much game time next year. Never stops trying though
Robbo - has a future, but currently looks ruched and makes mistakes
Kick outs

I was lucky enough to get to AAMI to see the game

Pros

I thought Russel, Armfield and Thornton were simply brilliant across the half back line.

Hadley and Carrots were very good in the cliches, in and under - Carrot's goal was gold.

I was happy with Cloke's rucking effort. I thought he at least nullified Brogan and Lake whom I saw as a risk.

Many other good efforts - Fev, Murph, Bryce, AJ, Kreuz

Murph's coat-hanger over Cornes was sensational. There's a photo of it in the Adelaide Advertiser this morning

Con

Kicking out still a problem FFS

How many games this year have we conceded the first goal? I was going to post up before the North game, what would be the odds they kicked the fist goal. Sure enough they did. But it's not just duds like them. Geelong kicked the first two. St Kilda the first 5. Pretty sure even Richmond round 1 kicked the first goal.

Brilliant marking....but,as a fellow TCer has (sort of) as his tag....
Think.......Then Kick.

I wanted to watch the 7.30 replay like it was live. Watching the Saints and Essendon*, it was mentioned that Essendon* would be in the 8 if they won. I realised then that the only way that would be possible was if Port lost. So I was watching the game knowing in the back of my mind we'd win. Started to doubt my confidence early in the first quarter.
