Ins and outs is getting difficult.

I'm loathe to drop any of yesterdays newbies as it's difficult to pick up the tempo of AFL straight away.

There'll be some disappointed boys after this weeks selection.

Location: A Fevola punt from TEAC oval.
In: Carlos, Scotland, Austin?
Out: Fisher, Army, Bentley?

JR to play defensive role on Shaw
AJ to take Vezpremi
Gibbs to Goodes
Carazzo to O'Keefe
Jammo on O'LOughlin

Not sure about having Hartlett and Austin both in ... :? Sydney forward line is not particularly tall, may need to leave Bentley in for another week and Austin wait out to give Harts a decent go down back.

Anderson stays in only to give a second chance.

Ugly 4 goal win coming up. Fev to continue on a roll, Setanta to keep the rich vein of form going.

I think we may need Bentleys size in the middle against a team like the Swans.

Hartts hurt his groin and may miss (i hope not) i thoughthis long kicks out to the open wings was refreshing and has one up one Austin due to that

In: O'Hailpin and Ellard/browne
Out: Fisher and Houlihan

Two wins against ordinary opposition is good, but our bottom 7-8 is way below the standard required against better teams.

Garlett had more of an impact in the second half to keep his spot.

I would agree with that, but put Robbo in instead of Austin.

The injury update website estimates Andrew Walker back R16. How is coming along anyone know? Has he been playing VFL?

No, but he will be back in the 2s (or the bullants 2s even) this week all being well.

I hope we back ourselves and put the Swans to the sword.

At docklands a forward line of:

Fev, Setanta, Kreuze / Hartlett, Betts, Garlett, Houla (for now) will stretch the Swans.

Imagine when Walker and Warnock can come in.

Austin and Bower in the defensive 50 will add structure to our backline on return.

In essence we have the cattle, we just have to be able to put them on the park.

We get on top in the midfield and we have so much upside.

I didn't see today's game or last week's, only listened to them so have no idea about Bentley. How did he actually go today? Stats wise, he had a better output than Anderson, Armfield, Betts, Fisher, Garlett, Hampson, Hartlett, Houlihan, Jamison, Johnson, Joseph, Kreuzer, Simpson and Thornton. I mean, that's more than half the team.

So was he extremely ineffective with the ball, or does everyone want him dropped because they've never liked him?
Basically I want to know if he actually warrants being dropped..

Was rubbish, think of a standard Bentick game with slightly better kicking. Richmond left him alone most of the time. 4 contested possessions, two clearances, six tackles, three inside 50s but zero scoring assists. Kicked a goal because no one bothered to man him.

Looking like R17/R18. Both he and Warnock should be back by R18.

Why not?

Johnson is defensively capable, just not a defender. Doesn't understand what to do in contests inside 50.

Stevens is also defensively capable but he's getting older and maybe he does need to lift his fitness also.

Two scenarios: 1 my preferred team for this week; 2. what might be available on a worst case availability with possible injuries and suspension.

Putting aside any fresh injury/suspension issues I'd like to see O'hAilpin, Austin and Bower (who Sticks said will be right to go) in this week for Fisher (too slow, can't kick, a liability except for his marking), Armfield (love his attack on the ball and run but his kicking needs so much work and he isn't always judicious in his attempts to run) and Bentley (lacks class and pace mainly). I know adding height isn't perhaps the formula for the Dome and Sydney aren't too tall, but the ins are mobile whereas Fish isn't (entry for understatement of the week) and Bentley lacks pace which leaves only Armfield as a pace loss.

So,

Joseph Jamison Thornton
Grigg Bower Russell
Johnson Carrazzo Gibbs
Simpson O'hAilpin Garlett
Kreuzer Fevola Betts
Hampson Judd Murphy
Anderson Austin Hartlett Houlihan

On the other hand, suppose Hampson, Hartlett, Betts and Jamison succumb to the niggles they showed, Fev gets suspended for his love tap (he shouldn't, but this is Fev we're talking about) O'hAilpin and Bower don't come up, Waite as we know is gone for the season, Pfieffer, Wiggins, Walker, Jacobs and Walker are either not ready or at least not ready to go into the firsts, ditto Robinson given he has missed 3 weeks, Stevens and Scotland are considered not to have done their penance yet and no further rookies are elevated and no first-gamers contemplated, then the 25 picks itself;

Joseph Anderson Grigg
Houlihan Thornton Russell
Johnson Carrazzo Gibbs
Simpson Cloke Garlett
Fisher Austin Yarran
Kreuzer Judd Murphy
Int from: Armfield Bannister, Bentick
Bentley Browne Edwards Hadley

Whilst there is virtually no chance of such depleted stocks, if Carlos and Hammer (who looked pretty sore) don't come up then we are left without even an option but to play Cloke as a relief for Kreuze - whilst I am not entirely unaware of the trend away from a genuine 2nd ruckman (which I don't agree with especially when you've got athletic talls like Kreuze and Hammer and all the more so when you've got to guard against burn-out) you need at least a genuine relief option for a few minutes a quarter who could fill in if injury hit the main ruck - if Setanta came up he could fill that role - but just at the minute Cloke could be the only man we have for that job. That is a scary thought!

Two challenges on the white board this week:

1. Win 3 games in a row
2. Beat Sydney

If this isn't motivation enough call in the Shrinks!!

Kicked a goal by intercepting a Richmond kickout.

Out:
Fisher-He was a liability yesterday. Kept on going to ground, couldn't mark the ball, can't kick over 30 meters, slow and he doesn't bother attempting to apply defensive pressure. Gone.
Gartlett- Didn't do enough.
Bentley- Not good enough at this level

In:
O'hAilpin- No brainer
Browne- Lack of options
Yarran- replacing Gartlett in the forwardline

i thought harts was very comfortable at CHB. apart from conceding a few very wide marks in the later stages i thought he looked great. id definitely consider him there.. Jamo at FB, Harts at CHB, and Bower to play loose/third tall. then theres also austin and TBird. All of a sudden looking fairly stable back there...

scotland and stevens for there skill, dont care what anyone thinks both are in our best 22, and after yesterdays performance both are an instant walk up start.
o'hailpin just in front of fisher for me.
not sure how far away yarran is but iam looking forward to him playing a few games towards the seasons end.
we MUST beat the swans this week other wise its good by 09 and see you in 2010.

IN : Austin, Carlos
OUT: Fisher, Joey

If Harts is injured, Fisher keeps his spot.

AJ & Armfield have lost their mojo to a degree in recent weeks, but, unless the fitness/medical staff say they need a rest, I would persist with them. They both look like guys that have a real hunger to be a part of the senior group and I would show a bit of a patience with them.

Garlett is barely earning his keep at the moment, but I think we need him in our structure (especially as Betts looks like he's playing hurt). If Garlett has a quiet game this week and if Robbo plays well for the Bullants, we might see a change the following week. Robbo has missed too much footy to play AFL this week IMO.

I actually thought Bentley was OK yesterday. I would give him another chance this week. His bigger body could be handy against the Swans.

I've got a feeling both Scotland and Stevo will be in red jumpers for at least one more week.

Zero goal assists according to Champion Data.

IIRC, it was Bentley's long bomb inside 50 that created a contest and a goal for Fevola.

Bentley should apologise for Richmond not manning him up and kicking straight from a set shot.

Do you get the set square out for your game review?
