if form for the bullants warrants promotion. was just thinking that we'll need another big body down back. and i'd like to see what Harts has to offer. we still dont really know

Sorry, but no it doesn't. I have been to every game and although he has been okay he is no where near up to it.

As for big bodies down back that is one of our major problems. WAY TO TALL IN DEFENCE!

Gutted by our lack of effort in the first half. Ratts would have been pissed off with their efforts.

Plenty more ups and downs to come this season with this young side.

GO BLUES !

Pressed play on the cd to take my mind off the game as I was (and still am) livid.

On comes Alicia Keys and her first 3 lines were.....

"We're at the crossroads my dear

Where do we go from here...

Just follow the tracks of my tears"

I just shook my head

Not just team changes but in our structure. We are too tall in defence, have a lack of forward structure, lack of rotations through the midfield and we are a poor kicking side.

Hard to fix it all at once but maybe

Ins: Scotland Anderson Garlett Bannister Grigg (a combination of body size, run, speed and disposal improvement)
Out: Waite (inj) Wiggins Russell Hadley Armfield

Ratts presser is here:

Flat one with not much insight - only good one is: "Any other injuries" - A: "Just our pride"

While leaving the Collingwood game, on the radio it seemed like there was a lot of backslapping after the win, which worried me. There weren't too many great signs coming out of that game, but they seemed pleased with themselves.

Wiggins in - I couldn't visualise how that was going to work for us. To be fair there wasn't much else to choose from - we have a fair few injuries

No Bullants last week hurt.

Use the rest of this season as a pre-pre season comp for 2010. Maybe we might even be treated to a semblance of a gameplan and some structures. We have gone backwards. Apart from Murphy, Bower and Kruezer (Betts as well), how many players have improved since last year? Ridicule, chastise or admonish my comments if you must. I'll care about the expected retorts that will come my way about as much as the team cared about winning in the first half today. This is not an over reaction. I, along with a few others have been having concerns ever since the Ess game. Luckily, I have been putting my money where my mouth is and backing against Carl most of the year. How the flower we have been favourites for most of the year is astonishing. Thanks Sportsbet.
PS. I desperately want Ratts to be our next premiership coach. I'm just not confident he will be.
PSS. Remember, we've also had a reasonable run with injuries until today.
Pencil in no more than 6 more wins for the season.
WE ARE CARLTON. WE ARE BOTTOM 8 IN '09

Dude why should what you are saying be an over reaction. Look I'll say it again aprt from one elite player and 3 or 4 good players the rest of our list falls into either 1) the passenger group or 2) the kids group. The Kids group can de subdivided into two groups as well...1) the kids with potential group (these we persevere with and develop) and 2) the kids that just wont make it group.

What you will find after dissecting our list in this way is that there isnt really that much there right now. Certainly not to get us anywhere near finals. I was surprised Ratten even put the pressure on himself and said we'd make finals this year. This ridiculous statement may come back to bite him.

I reckon if we break even this year in wins/losses we would have done very well. But the issue is not wins or losses...its about consistency of effort..something we have lacked for over 8 years now. Forget about if we win next week. That will mean nothing. Until we win runs of games in a row...we will not have taken the next important step in our improvement.

I hear you Mr Dude.....and I concur

More of the same shit. I want Ratts to show us how pissed off he is, rather than going on about how we're the youngest side in the comp etc etc.

I'm no fan of Chocco Williams, but I'll never forget that one presser he did when he labelled his team's performance as 'gutless', nor will I forget 'pitiful Pittman' from a decade ago. You know what happened soon after these sprays? Both teams won a flag.

Some very definite concerns. I think the most important thing is to get an accurate pitcure of where we are at.

So far this year:

Rich - destroyed a very ordinary team
Bris - Very good in the first half, but when they zoned in the third quarter, we fell apart. Struggling win in the end
Ess - poor kicking, but still lost to an average side
Syd - ditto. And couldn't deal with the zone, again
Dogs - best win of the season. They play the footy that we like to play against, free flowing
Haw - I actually thought the result flattered us. Remember, we were 25 points down with not long to go, and they had no backline. We played well in patches, and really struggled with their zone in parts.
Freo - shocking performance
Coll - don't be fooled by the result. We were good in the first quarter, and ordinary for the rest of the game. We only won by so much because they were decimated by injury. Struggled against their zone (sound familiar?). Only had a handful more scoring shots
Adel - couldn't break down their zone (hello?). Abysmal effort.

Overall, it's been a disappointing year, even the wins we've had, and even though we could have pinched a couple more games. We haven't beaten a team that zones since...since Adelaide and Sydney invented it 5 years ago. It's hard to play against, but personally, I think that Ratten has to back his players and tell them to go for it and back themselves to attack the zone, not try and pick through it slowly. It doesn't work.

As for players, I fear the following aren't up to it...Wiggins, Cloke, Russell (and I've been a fan, but he just makes too many skill errors every week), question mark against Hadley, Browne. The others will all make it, to what level, time will tell. But they are young.

How Yarran a) ever got a game, and b) is still in the team is amazing. He had one half decent game in the 2s, and has done little in 3 games. You can't tell me that, for his shortcomings, we wouldn't be better off with Houlihan getting 25 touches on a forward flank.

Betts is a worry - last 3 games, 11, 8 and 8 possesions, 1, 4 and 1 goals, and of the 4, 3 came in the last quarter junk time.

I went to a Haw v Ess game in Clarkson's first year. Hawthorn won (big upset), but they played an awful style of footy. No doubt it takes teams time to get their approach right and to know how to execute. My worry is that we don't have the right game plan to tackle teams who zone, we need a different approach. Too often it bring us unstuck.

So, once again:

They Know We're ??? Discuss.

So, what are we doing?

PS: having to ask this in some BS post-match thread is a flowering joke - this is not just about one bloody game.
Do we have to post the same questions in EVERY damn post-match thread? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

'Thirded'. Some may expect us to perform but expectation and the reality of the situation don't necessarily gel. Of course every teams ambition is to make the finals but what have we got apart from the obvious (Judd) that makes us expected certs? I think the Judd and the three #1s thing has robbed us of a good deal of impetus.

Now discuss away without losing your temper...or we'll have to banish you to the top of the Southern Stand again.
