Based on that footage, it's hard to tell if it was with a fist or an open hand - maybe that's where Carlton will come from if they choose to challenge, but it all depends on Suban's testimony.

Stupid by Stevens, but we'll see what the club chooses to do.

If it were me, based on that footage, I'd challenge.

Its good to see the footy media doing their research and reporting that Stevens is now set to miss the first game of the season due to this suspension.

WTF? I am sure they will take the 1 week, but they shouldn't. The little flower hammed it up in order to con the umpire, but fair dinkum, I lament for this game if that is worth a week.

All I will say is, why the @#$%&! would you give these muppets an excuse? although it is a love tap at best, don't give @#$%&! morons a reason to stand on their little soap boxes and justify their existence. That and that alone is why Stevo is a flower.

QFT!

I've already said as much in other threads.

But that's what the AFL relies on; our love for our clubs.

Well they've almost pushed me too far.

I'm a bee's dick away from walking away from the game.

He's got an odd style if that wasn't an open hand, even so, a striking charge?

Schammer will go too. :fight:

We should contest something that soft, but I wouldn't mind the club telling Stevens to sit out two games to learn his lesson.

Might the one hand push be worse? Isn't it the chosen move by the guys in kung fu movies. I think Keanu did it in Matrix and the guy flew across the room.

Definately an open hand slap, never seen anyone punch with their arm fully extended across their body just doesn't work like that...

You can even see the sook Pavlich asking umpy for a free please?

It's a fifty-fifty decision whether to challenge or not .

I'd probably cop the week and be right to play the bumbers in round 3 .

I don't blame Stevens too much . Anybody that's played much footy knows these things happen , and we don't know what happened before the " deadly punch " . Doesn't hurt for our senior players to show a bit of aggression .

That hit from Schammer to Stevens FACE is 5 times worse than Stevens' jab to the stomach. Contact to the face shouldn't be allowed.

I guess it is ok for taggers such as Suban to grapple and hold players before the contest. What Stevens has to do is push off with an open hand in future.

Ratten should hold a press conference (like Fremantle/ex Essendon* player/ coach Mark Harvey) calling Fremantle cheats for holding onto their midfielders prior to the ruck contest.

Forget Sandilands - I want to know what the AFL are doing to eliminate holding of midfielders (such as Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, Stevens etc) prior to a contest.

Open hand clearly IMO but don't underestimate what the heel of the hand can do and I dare say that's what Stevens struck him with. Either way, it was a sucker punch and the AFL don't look too kindly upon that. Stupid selfish stuff from a player that will never be a leader of our club in my eyes anyway. Imagine Brendan Fevola had done the same thing. He'd be hung, drawn and quartered by many on here.

You are @#$%&! kidding me, just seen the clip for the first time. Clearly not a strike and would easily get off, the prosecution has to prove he had a clenched fist. Absolutely wasn't a clenched fist.

This game is becoming a joke.

And another thing, the dropkicks at AFL house and the tribunal, in disregarding the Bryan incident, have now stated by their non action that you can hit to the head in a front on collision as long as there's no longterm injury. But even if its a complete accident your gone.

Match Review Panel wrote:
The match review panel determined that the bulk of the contact made by Bryan was to Selwood's left shoulder.

All of the contact to McGinnity was via Maxwell's shoulder and an accidental head clash was the cause of the damage. So what these peanuts are saying is that players deliberately smash their heads, risking serious injury to themselves in the process, into other players.

They fair dinkum make $hit up as they go along. Its about time precedent came into the tribunal process. Its so far overdue its not funny. Its the ONLY way to get some consistency into the process.

The punch - open handed or otherwise isn't worth a week but Stevo's previous demerit points tipped it over into a 1 week suspension.

Whether it's an open fist or not, Stevo shouldn't have put himself in that situation in the first place. He's the vice captain of the footy club and he goes around whacking blokes in the guts. You don't see Juddy running around snotting every tagger that hangs on to him.

If I were the other players, I'd be pretty dirty on him.

I hope we return the favour on those gutter snipes. That's clearly their footage and they have dobbed. And everyone knows dobbers wear nappies.

The footage that I saw last night would suggest that the retaliation hit from behind was more severe than the incident that saw Nick Stevens offered two weeks (reduced to one if pleading guilty)...

Fraught with danger, no-one knows how these panels will determine these cases. No rhyme or reason to all of it.
Common sense clearly suggest no case to answer but we aren't dealing with people who deal with these concepts, just an organisation drunk with its own sense of power and self-worth!

Knowing our past history with the AFL, I don't really fancy his chances.
