Ok...I was at the ground today - I saw the incident - but I want/need to get something off my chest.

Brett Ratten was just on the radio...he gave a very mellow interview, and said that "we'll sit the players down and have a chat"..."Setanta has gone home to think about his actions out there today"..etc etc.

Now - we have a lot of new people at Carlton, but Ian Coutts is the veteran Communications Manager who should never have let Ratts talk to the press. Coutts needed (before the end of the match) write up a brief statement from the Football Club saying that ...

"...the actions by Setanta O'hAilpin today were not acceptable and he has been suspended indefinitely - that suspension commencing immediately. The Football Club will review the incident and discuss what further actions will be taken within the next few days and will release a statement to the media once the dust has settled."

He didn't - he still hasn't and that's a disgrace in my book.

Now the incident. The wrestle went on for at least 30-40 seconds with both players having each other in a headlock. Then Setanta just unleashed a round arm. It wasn't an uppercut...but it was quick and gee - it had some force...Cam Cloke spun around and dropped to his belly clutching his face...Setanta then kicked him hard with his left leg and made contact to Cloke. It's all on camera anyway - so you'll see it soon enough.

Fev and Eddie ran over and told him to get off and that it wasn't on...Fev did very well....as Setanta made his way off Kade Simpson gave him a serve which went something along the lines of "Save that for the boxing ring....what the F are you doing you F'ing D'head"

For those of you who were there on the other side of the ground (and there weren't many people there by that stage) - you might have heard me voice my displeasure as well.

This is Carlton...we don't do that sort of thing. He will never play again...he needs to pack his bags and leave - I'm sure the players will have a vote of 'no confidence'...there's been a lot of work off field with Setanta...it hasn't worked. I wish him all the best for the future and I'd love to catch up with him one day in Cork for a craic - but his journey at Carlton has come to a very sad end.

This is Carlton, and we don't do that here.

SEN reporting that Setenta will be reported by umpires and could be looking at a very big suspension. They say it was a vicious attack by Setanta

How can the umpires report a bloke that plays on the same team. That's ridiculous.

A club suspension yes, tribunal suspension that's just downright ridiculous.

The AFL has confirmed that the match review panel will analyse the footage (which has been caught clearly on camera) and can be suspended.

Not now he won't. Instead of putting them online he should've gone straight on the phone with the papers, telling them to name their price.

Not that it will effect him - he'll be long gone.

Ratts was on SEN and said the leadership decided to send him home to cool off and they will deal with it later on in the arvo. Ratts said that behavior is not tolerated especially kicking a bloke while he's out.

The AFL said they will analyze the footage and charges can be laid.

Matt Grandland said that he has seen footage from Seven and 9 and it was all captured clearly and its not in the big Irish mans favour.

Setanta, will be on the next plane out of Visy park. He would have lost all respect from players and supporters.....

I wish that incident never happened...!!

I trust your version of events Doc.

Sadly, I'm in agreement with you.

Kicking anyone, let alone a @#$%&! teammate, is disgraceful.

In my books Setanta was a required player in our first 22, to mind the gorillas, till others matured/ developed and passed him. I couldn't tolerate that sort of behaviour.

The club is bigger than the individual.

And I was having a really good day..... :hitcomputer:

Those at the ground were having a good day too - because before the 'incident' you could hear the thoughts of 15 AFL coaches thinking 'How the hell did our recruiting staff let this Robinson kid slip to pick 40!!"

The kid is a gem....but thanks to the O'hAilpin brain snap - his BOG (by a long way I might add), will go largely unnoticed.

I think that in time there could be some positives to come out of this, if handled correctly. From what I've been reading there were some real leadership qualities on display from some of our guys, young and old. If Setanta has always been a negative influence on his teammates, only good can come from him leaving (other than leaving a hole in our talls department), and his departure could perhaps galvanise the rest of the playing group. Now is the time for strong leadership, and thank God we've got a bloke named Judd to pull it all together.

As always a brilliant post, I wouldn't share a drink with him though, in recent times he has had a 'woe is me' attitude and the world is against me including the coach.

We don't owe him anything, never have in fact - despite what some say
