If North got 400K for the pathetic crowds they got when selling home games interstate then we should be getting a darn site more.

If that's the case then i don't mind. As long as its on the free box at home, who cares.

Good move. Gain some extra money. Gain some leverage for future fixturing and contracts.

We're certainly not losing home ground advantage either. If we play a game there once a year until Gold Coast join the comp, we'll get more home ground advantage there than at Telstra or the MCG.

fair point sparkyblue, but then, why aren't the non Victorian teams giving up their home games for cash if the deal is such a good thing?

They obviously either don't need the cash, or desperately do but refuse to head up north due to archaic, backward thinking.

If the AFL consider this one of our required "interstate" trips for the season and give us one less, e.g. like Collingwood seem to get every year regardless, then we are giving up nothing, gaining a great deal more moula than would otherwise be the case and are seen to be 'team players' for the good of the game. Local (Vic ) members also get to use their membership for one of our "away" games, probably against a Vic based team anyway.

As someone said earlier in this thread, it is not all about me. Consider the club and our supporters in SE Queensland as well. Surely they have the right to see us play in their backyard once in a while as well. This might even bolster our memberships or following in this region which doesn't hurt the club when you step back and consider the big picture of AFL as a national game. As supporters we need to move away from this fortress Victoria mentality and embrace our membership and broad appeal across Australia.

Awesome move I say. Those who disagree, stop being so precious. Everyone benefits and maybe the club should seriously consider doing this every year when playing against one of our interstate competitors. It certainly hasn't hurt Hawthorn , its membership or on-field success. They certainly don't look like they'll need to merge with anyone for the foreseeable future.

I agree John, thats why I asked. I don't mind a TD game being moved. Thats would give us a 5-5-1 split

This information below from the Australian is shocking.

"As an example, when it hosted Brisbane at Telstra Dome in round eight in front of a crowd of 38,675, chief executive Greg Swann said it received a match return of just $26,700."

I am sorry - but that is a disgrace. We are getting well and truly rooted if that is all the money we can make from the Telstra Dome for a game drawing nearly 40,000 people.

perhaps we should take 3 of our TD games to Qld then?

Is that what people want?

Has anyone said thats what they want?

We've said we're happy to play 1 home game on the Gold Coast.

Good thinking Blues  Going on previous games at the GC, the crowd will be 9.999 to 0.001 in Carlton's favour

Brad what I am getting at is the principle that we are getting bugger all from TD so it makes sense to move a game - well based on this why would we keep other games at TD??

When West Sydney gets closer will the AFL dangle other carrots out there for us to play (of all places) in West Sydney for a game?

I understand what you're saying. Its a balance thing. Are you prepared to lose one home game...yes, are you prepared to lose two games...maaaayyyyybe...three games...I wouldn't think so.

The AFL are offering the games to keep the 'momentum' going on the Gold Coast, but a good question would be why aren't they trying to start the momentum in West Sydney by offering games there?

Is the money coming from the AFL though or from the Gold Coast?

the image it portrays is dispicable. that is my biggest problem with it. tell me you haven't thought less of these shit clubs that sell their @#$%&! games interstate.

The dome deal is absolute disgrace. I agree with that. @#$%&! ian collins is an absolute slime and does not even deserve to be considered a carlton man.

It pisses me off though that we are going down this shit track of selling OUR games interstate. it is purely financial. Don't kid yourselves that we are going to create a new market for ourselves or reduce GC17's home ground advantage or that we will have more of a home ground advantage if we play adelaide up there. that is all bullshit.

The GC market is going to be absolutely cornered by GC. playing one paltry game there is going to do jack shit to grow the brand.

reduce GC's home ground advantage???? WTF???

How does playing the crows in front of 12000 people mostly of which couldn't give a flying @#$%&! give us a better advantage than playing them here in front of 30000 carlton supporters????

It is purely financial so you put your members noses out of joint for 400k. what's the bet the memberships are more expensive next year for one less game that you can go to. and don't tell me about reciprocal home game shit to an away game. will i get my reserved seat for that game? no.
I get home and away membership (ie 18 games) so i will pay more money next year for 1 less game. what a @#$%&! jib. :x
